Hello everyone, I've been a DE now since August of 2003 and I have gone through phases of activity and excitement, and total inactivity and depression. I have made credits I have lost credits, I have seen publishes reinvent our profession, and then other publishes break it yet again. But whenever I dare to think of dropping the profession to pick up another more "lucrative" one, I always hesitate and stick with DE.
At this point it isn't even because I hope that down the line new and exciting things are in store for us. It's not because of Expansion II and the posibility of cybernetics, or the CU with the distant possibility of new battle droids; I can't even really say what keeps me here.
So basically, the point of the post (which isn't a new idea) is to test the waters and see how the rest of you feel about this. Do you think us DE's are among the most --if not THE most--dedicated to this game and what it means to be immersed in a virtual Star Wars?
Just curious, Best,
Jenden

I believe we are definately towards the top of that ranking. Most people who are in this profession for credits or convenience don't last long, so those of us that do stick around do so because of our love for droids (and the complicated as all hell profession of making them). But then again I might be a bit biased...

I think those that actually stay with the prof are indeed most dedicated but if you pull up a map on most planets and compare vendors you'll see that droid vendors are the most scarce. So I don't think that people who choose DE are neccesarily more dedicated so much as the ones who keep it are.

Wonderful point that I seemed to have left out. Yes indeed I did mean those who KEEP the profession, through thick and thin, good times and bad : )

I'm not sure it's entire fair to say whether one profession is more dedicated than the other. I would venture to say that all classes have their dedicated core that would rather cut off an appendage than give up the profession. However, I think out of all the professions, ours NEEDS our dedicated core more just because of our limited numbers.
The main reason I stick with DE is because of that very reason. I like being known as a prominent DE in my area.

I have also thought of other, "more lucrative" professions, have had the highs and lows you speak of.......I think what keeps me a DE is that there is no 1 single thing that screams "Star Wars" more, than droids.
Also, when an Armorsmith crafts an uber set of armor, and gives it to you, he doesn't say "Take good care of him/her, he/she is special".........how many times have you said that to someone you've given a special order droid to? We craft items that have a certain "personality"......the make/model/colors/features of a droidare an "extension" of the owner......other crafters really can't really say that.
I'm here for the long haul, and couldn't think of another crafting profession I'd replace it with.

Im new to the DE profession and I chose it to be able to craft something special like Fishbreath said, something that moves and talks.

Bah. ![]()
Some of us happen to love droids AND credits. We chose droids as our means to credits because we are actually massochists in real life, well that and cause we love droids.
