DE can be profitable yes, but you need to be prepared to work harder then many other crafters and make a lot less. You can make money though, but it is work.

Low prices is not the means to generating sales. All you end up doing is shooting yourself in the foot. Buld your reputation with quality goods, always staying stocked, and excellent customer service. Charge what the server considers the fair median price, if you charge less, you only make less money in the long run.

Droid Engineering can be profitable, but not as much as Armorsmiths or Weaponsmiths or what have you.

Our product has use, but unlike the previous 2, we don't have -need-, rather -convenience-.

However, personally, I do not regret the decision to go DE in the least, as I very much enjoy the profession. Unlike the other crafting professions, we can make some really unique and creative items, and I personally feel that a droid in my datapad that I can call on to assist me with my daily activities, as well as be a companion to me in the game, is a lot more personal than some gun I buy on a vendor somewhere.

DE can be profitable, but it would require a great deal of effort, patiance, and consistancy. You will have to work twice as much as other crafters to deal with the crafting of and logistics of the myriad of subcomponents. And you will also need to spend a great deal of additional energy in promoting them, since aside from medical modules they are little more than cute toys. You will also have to deal with a grossly ignorent client base (most people dont even knowwhat kind of modules you can build). You will also probably not see profit for another 4 months, DEs also require thewidest range of rare resources in the game aquireing them all willprobably take you half a year or so if your not willing to buy them. It will seem hard after awhile, but the key is not go give up, there are no immediate rewardsbut thats noreason tothrow in the towel. You will have to work hard and work hard for the extent of your carreer, but since there is so little competition, you candraw some nice cash flow. But if credits is somthing you want, do somthing else.

I decided against running my own vendors. I just loaded up a new droid vendor for a full time merchant with 5 mill worth of equipment. I'm planning on doing this on atleast one other planet or maybe even two. The restocking for all three should be good enough for me. I'm not too worried about getting armorsmith rich.

I left SWG a few months ago and returned due to the fact that SWG has the best RP community of any MMO. I decided I wanted to start from scratch and deleted my main character (crazy, I know...; but I was kinda tired of being a Zabrak too). Anyways, I'll admit the CURB is another reason I returned... hoping it would make the game more group oriented and less time required to get ready for PvP and such. I decided I'd try my hand at crafting this time instead of jumping into the combat professions and I started to look at my options.

Tailor didn't seem like my kind of thing. Building furniture and buildings didn't interest me either. Chef requires a lot of capital to get started in and just didn't seem to be my thing either. Weaponsmith and Armorsmith are both gonna be turned on their ear by the CURB. That, along with the startup money kept me away from those two. So, I'm staring at Droid Engineer and thinking...

Well, not a lot of repeat buisness really, except for bounty hunters. Here's my basic plan: grind till I can make seekers. Start selling those at cheap rates... maybe even stand at Kaadara and give away a few freebies to get my name out amoung the bounty hunters. Once I can make probe droids, start putting those out. Eventually, go into bomb droids. Once I get my template completed, here's what I have planned:

Each of my shops will have 2 vendors:
1) Bounty Hunting Droids
2) JtL chips and droids/customization kits

Hopefully, I can get some people to pre-program chips for me to sell off the second vendors as well.

I'll custom make other droids for people as they request them. Maybe even hand out mouse entertainment droids for free to get some advertising done. Make them pay a fair amount for the decked out models.

Basically what I'm asking:

Would this actually be profitable or am I barking up the wrong tree?
