The Developers are concerned about higher-level combat droids unbalancing the game (let's not even go into the fact that it's not balanced anyway).Anyhow, I'll buy into that concern for a moment. Some attempt at balance should be strived for.Whatboggles the mind, is why Droid Master / Droid Handler / <insert your own suggestion>, has to be theonlypossible solution.
I mean honestly...what happenedto a little imagination and creativity? Isn't that what Star Wars was all about?I've seen somesuggestions and ideas on these boards that just blew me away. Amazing and awesome ideas to fix our profession, maintain balance, and make the game better for everyone. DEs and non-DEs alike.
Here's something I dreamed up (assuming someone else hasn't already thought of it, and posted it here): The Droid Remote Control Box
In order to control the higher-level droids, a player must activate and use a remote control box. While doing so, they cannot perform any other actions. The player just stands there, immobile, and issues commands to the droid. If you turn off the box...the droid powers down and deactivates. Maybe even returns to your datapad, if you want to get strict about it.
Now...sooner or later, one of 2 things are going to happen. A) The droid defeats the enemy. B) The enemy defeats the droid, and you enter combat. C) You choose to spare the droid further beatings, deactivate your control box, and enter the fight.
Would this "un-balance" the game? Maybe, I don't know. You're getting perhaps 1-2 minutes of droid combat, during which you cannot help. If that's not strict enough...make the control box slowly deplete your mind pool, or your action pool. If that'snot enough, put some other restrictions in there. Whatever. But at least everyone would be able to have the pleasure and enjoyment of using all the droids. Even if we can't fight beside them...well....at least we could use them.
Maybe this is a good idea, maybe it's not. My realpoint: Somewhere out there, someone *does* have an idea that would work. And allow us to have more/better combat droids, without resorting to Droid Master/Handler. It's probably already been suggested somewhere in these forums.
Rather sad that it's come down to this.

Haven't seenanything recently about using more than 1 droid simultaneously.Has that concept been completely thrown out the window? Or just a gift to the Droid Master profession, and the rest of the player population is out of luck?
