Thread: A Droid Handler class VS Droid Certs, Devs could be on a right track

Before you all start flaming me....

I am not a Holo cron DE and I have been on the board for a very long time.

So here is whatI see can be a good thing about the DH class.

We have a similarity between the BE and CH. We the DEs of the galaxy will create droids and our main complaint is that we cannot seem to make a decent economy out of the Droid we create. Not only that but the amount of droids you see in cities are null or nominal at best.

Our problem is not that things are buggy and screwed up, but there is no balance.

The devs want to bring out a new class. I am not in favor but I do see what they mean.

For one thing, if we have a DH class, this class of course would be combat. Combat classes typically have a large credit flow and will buy things when they need them, no matter what price.

Making a class that can handle and tame droids from Lvl 10 on up seem to be a good idea. Mainly because they cannot make droids, just use them.

The DE on the other hand is a crafting class. Adding combat droid schematics to our blue prints will allow us to make different lvl combat droids for the DH class. This means that some one will be using these scrap heaps that we have been making for months.... I think their business will be a welcome to the DE by providing another class to need the products we create.

The other way, the Cert program has its negatives, but if done correctly it may be a nice boost to the DE economy.

Here is how that works.

The Cert program will allow certifications for droid usage. Say when you get to Novice Rifleman, you get a Certification for Probot, and as you progress you get certification to adv Probots.

Now the Uber Class and Uber droid issue that the devs keep throwing at us...

Answer: Treat combat droids just like weapons that weaponsmiths create. Only with a droid certification, you get a mobile and additional weapon. This will provide a nice boost to all Combat classes.

The DE will have new Droid Blue prints, new DE modules for weapon types (maybe playing on the weaponsmith for sub components), and now new business.

A certified Droideka combat class member can now buy the Droideka with an Armor rating of what the DE put in the droid, a weapon type module again put in the droid and use it along with his weapon to kill mobs..

Now the good part. These droids will decay just like weapons. Eventually they will need repair ( repair droids can only be certified to a DE on some tree) or they just wipe it and buy a new one.

I can really see how both methods would work, so you tell me what you think.

We still have time to see the Devs Big picture and be happy as DEs.

Yes. I think you are seeing it correctly. This could and would be a very good thing. You basically have two types of views on what the DE proffession is:

Those who think it's a craft class (cause a crafter crafts- just cause you make a gun it doesn't mean you can shoot well)

and those who think it's a craft/control class (cause if I can build it I can control it)

Here on the forums, we met in the middle and worked out a solution but meanwhile the Dev's whipped up the finals for the addition of a droid handler.

Now everyone thinks things are ruined but the post above shows just how this could all work out. A DH is perfect. Now you can CHOOSE what type of Droid Proffession you want to do without compromise on your part or the opposing factors part.

The best part is if you want both you should be able to get them. I'm not really down with commandoes and BHs walking around with UBER weapons and UBER droids. Nor am I down with combat droids being dumbed down so combat classes can have them. DH will be to CH as De is to BE. What is so wrong with that?

I think to make the best of this scenario that im not really for (the DH) is that I will be master until I have accumulated an insane amount of driods and then dropthe DE and go to DH. That is what I have done for my hologrind, before i dropped afew DE skills I stockpiled all sorts of driods so I could still sell driodsif for some reason the resources that I can sell for 6cpu ran out lol.

I am not a MDE (yet),
But since you want to call me out, I do understand what is happening on this board.
I have been on this board since beta, all that I know is the way it stands now, DH or not we don't have a *f*r*ea*k*i*n working profession.
I hate to whine, but none of our problems have been fixed, how many times did you read the centralized issues by Gorantoth?
I support any profession that relies on droids, no matter how idiotic it sounds.
I love Bounty hunters, they are my bread and butter, now Droid Handlers What is wrong with that... I won't ever be a droid handler, but
my vendor will be stocked with the best in combat droids around.

I say enough of the smoke and mirrors. The droid invasion should be rename to the Droid corrections.
Really, I would agree with you, but more power to anyone who needs a droid.

I make droids therefore I am.

The devs need to really deal with the issue at hand (see Centralized Droid Issues - Bugs...)

I wonder if a DH can tame wild droid babies. Why not spread the DH class amoungs other combat classes like SL or BH. I DH class on its own seems prity stupit. Since a CH can tame criters in the wild they are not as good as a player made one but still they are free.

I want the Droid Engineer profession they have been promising since beta.

I want useful droids for everyone, not some silly new class that will have about as much content as the back panel of a cereal box.

At this point, I think many of us are at the point of to heck with the combat droids - I'd much rather see the other new droids we've been repeatedly telling them when they come back and say, "What do you want" which is enough to send even the most patient people over the edge after the third or fourth time.

Well I, for one, don't see how a Droid Handler class would even come close to addressing the centralized droid issues. And I contributed to that list in beta when it was Tyim's Big Bad Droid Thread, so yes I am familiar. If anything, it would introduce a ton more issues that we couldn't even test without being Droid Handlers ourselves.

Every profession should rely on droids. The problem is that since they never bothered to design droids to fit into the game, it makes it extremely difficult to do sonow thatthe professionsare used to the current state of crap-tastic droids.

The droid crafting economy isn't the reason I haven'tlogged on in a week. The lack of Star Wars in everything droids, well, that has a lot to do with it.

...with the caveat that a droid is PROGRAMMED, not a living creature, so it should be a programming issue. Wouldn't that be Droid Engineer??? (Remember DROIDS don't rip your arms off when they lose, but that pet Rancor would certainly do so if you weren't a good CH )

I think any class should be able to use a programmed droid, just like nonCH characters rely on a CH to train their pets. And as a BE and MCH I am first to say that I believe whole heartedly that droid pets that are well programmed should be better thanANY lvl10 creature pet. There is no way any droid should top a Rancor in battle, but certainly a droidekashould have a good chance against aGSP orMerek (energy vulnerable even with high level). I think it would be cool if a good DE could drop the effective level of the droid by programming skill, thus giving a perk to high level DE.

Certainly, DE should get control perks also...more droids out at once, or bonuses to their actions etc...

Just my 2 cents

hmm, DH is just an ignorant idea brought forth by someone who was trying to get the creative concept ball rolling. I think most followers of this discussion have given up their (if ever) support for a new Profession like this. Please read the following idea. It really touches base on what everyone wants and would make 90% of the people happy to be a droid owner:
