Thread: Why would new droids need to be level 10 or less? I don't get it...

I just had another thought. Which do you think would be more helpful: a combat droid or a full set of buffs, spice, etc? Both are available to new players, and I think boosting your stats will help you much more than having a droid with you.

A full set of master doctor buffs would indeed be more useful than a CL15 pet, IMO.
You both have an exellent point. I currently do missions with some Ubese armor, Republic blaster, a probot and doctor buffs/food/spice (usually just one of those three buff types). My probot does well for one or two missions, but it then nearly out of commission for a good long time. I cango through 4 or more missions without any real break, with or without the probot. The buffs are much more of a combat advantage than a CL10 probot with 40% medium armor and 820 HAM. Oh, and I am pure artisan -- no combat skills.
Why is SOE fixated on newbies getting pets when good armor, weapons, and buffs have a much greater impact on combat performance? Who cares if newbies have slightly less of a horrendous start-up period? They'll never be a match for an elite combat character. Since newbies can't make the powerful pets, and can't afford them without help, then any issue of newbies with combat droids becomes an issue of experienced characters giving them help. There's no way to stop rich experienced characters from helping their newbie friends along the way. That help might be a pet, or it might be a full suit of 80% composite armor, some spice, and some buffs or money for buffs. It might be a heavy BER13 harvester and a big stack of power and cash to help a newbie artisan along. The pets are not any more unbalancing than these other perks.
<sigh>
