Hey guys n gals,

basically im at the point at naming some R2 droids and have been researching on the internet. which numbers and letters can i change? (continuity wise)

R - This is part of the R2 unit name, i take it this should be kept the same

2 - Again this is part of the R2 unit name, i take it this should be kept the same

D - This letter can be changed right? if so can i have a number instead of a letter?

2 - Again thisnumber can be changed right? if so can i have a number instead of a letter?

thanks for any help. as ive said its hard to find this information as all the information i can dig up is purely about R2 D2

Numbers aren't allowed honey, and neither are classic Star Wars names (and banned words of course, although I'll never understand why P_okemon is a banned word )

Hence, R2-Xn is right out the window. In essence, the droids follow the same naming rules as characters... of course in the books they never called the droids R2-D2 and C3PO anyway, they were always artoo and threepio so you can remain Star Warsy with titles like arfive or deetwo.

Is that any help flower? Hope so

wow thats lame but understandable i guess. so for me to have for example R2-G4 then id have to make a chasis and not the actual droid? because i have seen R2-D2 and C-3PO in people houses like this and im guessing this is the way to do it

1more question... lol sorry. need to be a SW geek to answer this....

Anyone have an idea what each of the 4 Syllables mean on an R2 unit? (i mean do certain ones designate a batch number? or a group number etc?)

The name R2-D2 does not come from an in universe source. It's movie telk. R2 is Reel 2 and I for get what D2 is. The story goes that this is where the first scene of the movie "THX-1138" is localted.

Likewise with Obi-Wan. He's named after an OB Van.

It was 'Reel 2, Dialog Track 2'. Like many things the in-universe system was fitted to the name later on.
