No. Any droid equipped with a medic module allow you to heal wounds outside med center or camp.

The healing capacities of the droid depends on the level of the medical module used when the droid was build.

Best choice is a probot with a medic module installed. It has armor and can resist pretty well with armor level 6 if attacked and it is speedy enough to follow you even if you are on a mount.

One thing you might want to consider is the upcoming Droid Patch in January. Thunderheart stated inhis "Big DE Plan" that the 2-1B Surgical Droid will soon be the only droid that can be called ANYWHERE in the game, not just within a city, camp or near your declared residence. He also stated that the Surgical Droid will soon have the ability to auto-revive you if you get incapped during combat, much like how a Combat Medic...assuming you have the droid called while engaging an enemy.

This is supposed to be one of the first steps toward "specializing" droids and not just making them all the same droid...but with a different body. Some people like this idea of specialization, while others simply want a droid with every conceivable module installed. It's all a matter of taste, I suppose.

Make sure you get a medical module 5 or 6 though. Anything less than a 5 and you are actually healing at less than your normal rate you would in a town. The module 5 is even and the 6 is a +10% boost.

The chasis or form of the droid is irrelevant. What matters is the level of the med module and whether it has a chem ctafting station or not. If you need something that can join the fight, a decent probot is your droid. There may be a fix/nerf someday that only allows med modules into surgical chasis, but for now anything goes.

Look into my shop near Anchorhead. On any given day I have droids with L6 med modules AND chem crafting stations.
