Thread: Droids remaining on patrol after log out
I think you defined thembetter as oversights rather than bugs. They aren't exploiting broken parts of the game, just slipping through because of lack of forethought into cross-server information passing.

I personaly think it's by design.
Allowing overt people to make their pets patrol around their house/city while they're offline.
But, hey, yu never know.
I couldn't sleep and being the forum junkie that I am, I felt I should pipe up on this one.
Back in Mid-September, Droids were fully persistent and could actually be left out for days at a time ever with Server resets. You could call a droid and place it on partol right before the server went down for maintence and later in the day log in to find it stopped somewhere along its Partol path (The patrol points would be lost on reboot, but the droid could still be found present.) This was true for all pets/droids/perks for about a month, before it was removed due to excessive lag being created because of pathing issuse and the multi-call bug.
Something else that appeared around this time, actually it was a few weeks prior to droid persistence, was the ability to call out 5 different droids on 5 different planets. This was a great tactic that I used to advertise in some of the more populated regions that lacked a local DE. I would often set a Droid with the name to the effect of 'Drashk-Droids'For'Custom-Orders' on patrol in Bestine and Coronet.
I don't think that either is a bug or an oversight simply for the fact that both were added without apparent changes to any other droid system when each feature was added. The DEVs have stated a few times that they would like to make Droids persistent, but due to hardware limitations they can not due so without harming over all game play - Lag and db issues - and both features are representative of the DEVs effort to do this in the only means they have availible until the technology/programming barrier is breached. I'm not saying that I'm 100% sure on this one, but from the months of experince and testing these two items out I am 99% confident that both are game features. I'll try to see if I can get some more info on this, but for now its on the 'Low Hanging Fruit' list of Q&A.
Here is my little story:
Two days ago I made my fisrt BLL for advertising purposes. After trying to rename it to something like "Mos-Nox-Garbage-Collector" first, and "Visit-Ellesa-Droid-Store" then, both unsuccessfully, I finally named it Bob (checking that there was no problem renaming it). I left it patroling from Mos Nox City Hall to my house (two houses left from the city hall) and go to work (checked harvesters, crafted a few droids...). Half an hour ago I logged off, assuming the droid would auto-sore.
Yesterday I called out my BLL again. After trying to rename it (again) to "Visit-Ellesa-Droid-Store" unsuccessfully (is maybe 'store' a forbidden word?) I named it "Follow-me" and program it to patrol around Mos Nox (City Hall - shuttleport -merchant area -medical center -my shop - City Hall).
I was following it to assure it patroled properly (no crasheswith statues or things like that) when someone shoot me a tell: "Did you see the pets following Bob last night?" Shocked, I asked what happened, and he/she told me that the other night the BLL kept patrolling although I disconnected, and some people put their pets to follow it. There were two pets (a graul and another oane I cant remember), an R2, a power droid.. and even two AFK people following Bob!!!
