I have been interested in Driod Engineer from whenI first heard about the game but my plans changed as I felt I wanted to play other classes at the point of the original release.

However times have changed and after the distraction of holo chasing (gave up quickly) I feel the time has come to possible return to a enw class I want to try for the fun of it.

Soo I heard the sob stories and read the broken nature of the class but I still see a strong board of players will to stick it out and help develope the class into something good.

Now I figure if there are people willing to stick it out there must be somethign worthwhile in there so now to my questions:

Is the journey to Master best ground out or is there much of value to be learned walking the path ?

Is there a demand for the product or is it something thats just an interesting class. ie will it be a sustainable career ?

How painful is gathering the resources required to make good driods ?

Please be constructive, I appreciate any replies. i shall be working my way through many of the previous posts in the forum as well.

Cheers

You're definitely better off taking your time a little, at the very least stopping at each box to figure out the new schematics and how best to use them. There have been way too many posts on this board by supposed "masters" who are asking the most basic of questions. A little patience and learning on the way up will give you a better understanding of how the droids work, and knowledge that will be useful to you in the future, if/when we get new modules or droids.

There is some demand, not near as much as for weapons or armor, some DE's find themselves lucky if they sell 1-2 droids every week. You might or might not be able to be a self-sustaining DE, depending on your server, how many DE's there are, how marketable you are with your product (again, knowledge gained on the way up will help you a lot here)....

The "named" resources (ie Lidium Extrusive Ore) is really only needed for the higher level modules. The exception to this rule is Duralloy Steel, which you'll need to make decent (Level 4) armor modules. There are some posts here with the named resources we need, either search for them, or use swgcraft.com to figure out which resources to look for. Mainly, look for Steel, Fiberplast and Copper/Aluminum.

Take your time especially to look over the FAQs, Guides and Gorantoth's Issues Post. Those will help you understand the plight of the DE, and give you a better idea of what you will be able or won't be able to do...

Cheers

Good luck, and watch out for those pesky Jawas

I think you end up better overall without grinding. You make master with money in your bank, a good customer base, and an extensive knowledge of each and every one of your parts. That being said, it does take a few months to make it to master without grinding, so it depends on how patient you are.

The demand is there, you just have to be a good businessman to take advantage of it. You can make decent money stocking a vendor if its in a good location and on the map, you can also make money standing outside of coronet spaceport screaming your head off, but the best way I've seen is just to build up a loyal customer base. I'd say 80% of my sales are either return customers or people that have been referred to me from return cutstomers. Keep a list of everyone who buys a droid from you and send out updates whenever you can make something new or anything gets changed with a patch and you get a lot more people comming back to you.

Not nearly as bad as most other crafting professions. The only thing we need in any bulk is generic steel, fiberplast, and copper/aluminum. You'll also want to be on the lookout for extrusive ore and siliclastic ore. As mentioned before, the advanced modules do require some specific resources, but that depends on your server as to how rare they are. I know on tarquinas lidium extrusive ore is about the only one we haven't had in abundance.

Good idea, there's a wealth of information here. I would recommend you don't let some of the negative posts get you down, this is a fun profession for some, its not for others, the only way you can see if its right for you is to try it out.

I'm in the same boat as this gentleman, and was wondering if any of you could elaborate a bit on how lucrative the profession can be. How much money do you guys usually bring in on a good day, a bad day, a week in general? How much do you spend on resource gathering? What do you sell the most of? Thanks for any information.

That depends much on your server and mainly in your shop location.

Personally, in a good week I can earn 200k in droid sells; ina bad week, nothing at all lol (considering my vendor is not well.stocked becuase I can only play an hour or so each day). Anyway, if you expect to eran millions in a short term, this is not the profession you are looking for

I think DE can be one of the most interesting of all professions, primarily because the marketing aspects are so challenging.

You can sell droids but the chances of you selling droids by just plunking down a vendor somewhere are not that great.

You will have to consider what your droids can do and who can use them and then find a way to market more directly to those players.

That is the puzzle for you to solve.

Good Luck

On a good day, 200k-300k. On a bad day 50k. My average per week used to be more around the 1million mark, but lately business has slowed (combination of me not being able to get on as much and a general slowdown of droids across the server) so its probably around 500-600k. I don't spend much time gathering resources, I buy pretty much all of my resources (I randomly throw down a heavy mineral harvester from time to time just because I've got one random open lot), and I probably sell the most of R2's, Probots, and Surgical Droids.
