Thread: Experimentation fluke or feature?

So yesterday I was building an R5 droid for a guildmate with a couple storagemodules (I'm only 2/2/0/3 in DE right now so it takes 2 level 3 modules to get a storage rating of 10). On final assembly, I used all whopping 2 of my experimentation points and... the HAM on the R5 increased by a point!
Now, I'm pretty darn sure this has never happened before, except on the Probot, where I can usually squeeze 3 point or so out of (ya-hoo).
So, has anyone else seen this happen since the patch? Is experimentation actually doing something now? Granted, an extra point of HAM on a droid that doens't see combat doesn't really mean anything, but it could be a step in the right direction, right?
Or is it possible that it's always been happening and I've just never noticed it before? I've made dozens of R5's over the last couple weeks and experimented on all of them, got great sucesses on probably a quarter of them, and I'd swear it's not happened before.
Insight? Comments?

Yes, it happens on all droids.
You will notice it more if you use better fiberplast for the casing, etc.
I got an R2 up to 276 HAM once ![]()

some droids do, some dont. most do i think. up to about 6 points. only droid i can think of that doesnt off hand is the treadwell, but its mornign, and i could be wrong

It's a fluke if you ask me... even if you do manage to get the HAM raised a few points, when the deeds are "tamed" the actual HAM for the droids is rounded down to the nearest 10. So, there's really no difference between 261 HAM or 269 HAM, they both would get rounded down to 260 when you actually use the droid.

I must just be out of my mind, then. I've been using the same materials for months and I've never seen the HAM budge. It just about gave me a heart attack. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten an "amazing success" and sat there shaking my head because nothing happened...
Time to visit the cantina for a mind buff, I guess...

Remember folks... HAM only delves at the experimented (higher) level when you examine your droid in the datapad or the deed.
When the droid is called and out, select him and examine his HAM: it will not be at the experimented levels, but remain at the "base" HAM for that chassis.
Eg: Probot = 810, ADV-Probot = 820, etc, etc...
So, apart from miniscule improvements in damage output for the Probots, it's pretty much a fluke in my book.

Yea, the deeds may say more HAM, but in reality, there is no change in the final product whatsoever. Go figure.

Actually, that's not quite correct. The actual HAM rounds down to the nearest 10 from the deed HAM, it doesn't default to some base value. If you make an Advanced Probot with really crappy polymer (we have some on Ahazi now with OQ of 5), the deed will say 819 but the end result will have 810 HAM, not 820. In theory, if you could somehow experiment a Probot's HAM up to 820, you could make a basic Probot with 820 actual HAM (or an Advanced Probot with 830). As near as we can tell, though, the max is 818 (and therefore 810) for the Probot and 828 (and therefore 820) for the Advanced Probot.

Heh, I never noticed that cause I never builta droid with 5 OQ materials before.
(My customers will be glad to hear that). Thanks for pointing that out. Tonight, I'll be sure toseek out the crappiest materials and all the critical failure I can muster fora "SOE Developer's Special Edition" Probot with only 800 HAM.
