Thread: Depressed beginner
Welcome to players hell...
If you really like droids and don't mind that you won't be as rich as any other profession besides maybe the Entertainers, then you're right here.

I have just spent a couple of hours readinga broad selection ofposts on the DE profession.
I am now totally depressed that I chose this career path.
A summary of what I have read would be this:
It is a very hard profession to progress in, and even if you do progress, the droids you can make are virtually hopeless. Furthermore, things are almost certain not to get any better.
So guys, is this a fair summary? Should I change careers before I get in too deep?
Yup. But if you are looking for an exciting career in making cool looking robotic statues, you picked the right profession.
Also, if you aren't really too interested in a crafting profession, don't do it. You'll end up getting very frustrated and end up dropping the skills. Its not just crafting: but you also have to factor in finding resources, getting subcomponents from other classes, dealing with harvestors, etc........

Don't be depressed or discouraged. If you love droids and think that they are cool....
Just consider it a challenge and focus on it that way.
Honestly...I can't say which way to go on this. Part of me would rather save you the heartache and tell you to run. The other part prefers to welcome a new DE brother-in-arms and rejoice.

Respectfully,
And smugglers want to nerf you. Forgot that one.

What are you talking about?!?

Confused,
Item storage is scan-proof. Smugglers want to nerf that.

Deepfry, this is a summary based upon the assumption that
1.) noone wants to buy droids and
2.) nothing is slated to happen.
From my perspective, if no one was buying droids, then why am i getting tells in starports asking for them?
Not gonna lie to you and say all is right with the world because it just isn't at this point, but the utility is far from "virtually hopeless" as you describe. People DO want droids, we just have to find our market. No, we may never be as popular as weaponsmiths or armorsmiths in this game, but maybe that isn't such a bad thing? The burnout rate among AS and WS is extremely high from what I have seen as they get deluged with orders and tells and whines and complaints and....well, you get the picture
. Wearing a DE tag helps, but it also depends on server and planet. As someone said before, its all about..."location, location, location"
As for the assumption that "things are almost certain NOT to get any better", I would have to say that you are putting the cart before the horse on this one. We haven't even begun to discuss the proposed changes in the next few patches, so let's not just throw in the towel just yet. I guess you really have to decide whether you want to enter a profession that, at this point, has a lot of questions and very few answers. If you are looking at future potential and not current status, I see a tremendous upside to DE. If you are looking for a way to make a lot of money or kill anything that moves, this won't be the place
Consider where you want to go and then decide. Either way, I'm here and plan to be for a long time
Good luck in whichever path you decide, but know someone will always be here to welcome you to this "band of brothers"
You're pulling from the pessimists clan of the DE's. I love droids and would never leave this profession. It depends on who you listen to. I find tinkering and creating to be fun. And selling them only helps the feeling. So if you love droids and like playin' around wit 'em, hang around. If not, I'd cut my losses now and find something that held my interest.

Woo Hoo! Welcome to Bitter and Jaded Land (tm)! Please leave your happiness at the door, you won't be needing it.
Ok, kidding aside... As has been said previously, if you truly are a Droid lover, you may want to stick with the profession. Truly the love for droids is what's keeping the lot of us around IMO. Most of us are masochistic optimists, that endure the brokenness to someday (hopefully) have this profession live up to the Star Wars name. And you can always drop it if it gets too terrible for you. I'd say try it out, and see how you like it, you can always go back.

Well, they just fixed the biggest FRIGGIN BUG for droid engineers this last patch. The infamous Cluster Expoit, which is a good sign. Not that this bug should have been around for 8 months, or even a week after launch, but we rarely get a peek by the developers, so they have no clue what is going on.
The only reason to stay in is because you liked Star Wars because of the droids. We aren't going to get major love like the chefs did, or the combat classes do. We won't see suprises like RIS armor, or Krayt weapons because we are the forgotten class believe it or not and the devs have no idea what to do with us now (Droids!! Forgotten in a Star Wars game!!)
BUT, we are getting attention the next couple of months if you can believe what they say. We will actually have new things to make after 8 months of nothing but the infrequent nerf when they think we got alittle too powerful, or we complain too much and they need to put us in our place.
I am looking forward to it because it is something new to make and I like droids. Either that, or I guess I have been starved so long a box of Macaroni and Cheese looks likea gourmet meal.
Stay or go?
Stay, if you have fun making droids, and can accept the fact you won't be the richest player on your server . . .
Go, if you expected to be the richest player on your server . ..
