I normally make these one at a time, but people want factory runs (people=BH's) and I'm not sure if I'm doing these right. I normally drop a house just to store pre-run crates of components for the final deed run, but does anyone do this ona regular basis and have any tricks of the trade, so to speak?

Just requires a bunch of factory runs:
R3 chassis requires nine factory runs for the final product (GP module, memory module, adv brain, manip arm package, droid sensor, adv frame, adv motive, control unit, final chassis). Detonation combat-capable clusters require a total of three factory runs (detonation modules, droid brains, final cluster).
It's a lot of calculations in order to use the precise amount of resources, because you don't want left-overs. Left-overs not only take up space after you're done, but it delays the final product. If you manage it efficiently (and have lots of factories placed...like eight), you can crank out 123 crated R3 boom droids in a few days.
I don't even bother with the droid armor, nor do I use top quality chemical for the HAM. What's the point?

Im planning a massive run of them right now, approx. 20 runs of 100 droids. It takes an increadible amount of planning since you dont want to screw up. It took me afew hours alone to do the math for the resources, I have a whole notebook full of logistics, numbers and all ill need to know when im building them, its best to know exactly what you will need, and how much. Miscalculations can screw you up down the line.
Next step is resource gathering, its cool that very few quality resources are required, but ill still be needing over 5 million units. Resource gathering will take months, best bet is to wait until after the CU opens, last thing i want is to sit on 2000 nerfed droids.
You might ask why in the name of all that is holy do you want to build enough bomb droids to blow up coronet, because i think it would be cool if i could get afew jedi to quit.

I flow charted the construction of these droids to shut a BH up who thought I was charging too much, now I just need to use that to find out what kind of resources I'll need and how many of each factory run I'll do...
But you're right, it may be best to wait for the CU...gives me time to collect resources and plan the runs....I want a thousand on my vendor in time for Ep 3's release....figure the BH's will get all.....randy.....seeing all those Jedi die.

I just got an order for 10 crates of these from one person. I am a pretty small scale operation (3 factories), and this order is by far my toughest to complete so far. It is one thing to make some crates of R3's at your own pace, butI don't like the pressure of making them whenI keep getting asked "are they done yet". I really don't plan on doing anything larger than this for special orders anymore. People just do not understand the time involved in making these...I guess they have ordered crates of swoops or similar things and expect these droid orders to have the same turn-around time. Plus since I can only play 2 or 3 hours in the evening, there is a lot of factory downtime until I can start them up again. The money is nice and I like giving the customer what they want, but I still get more satisfaction hand crafting an entertainer droid for someone.
I can see where runs much bigger than this would require some good planning, but I just kinda take it a step at a time. I will probably have a few left over parts, but I always build some extras in case of crit-fails and use any leftovers in hand crafted droids.

You know how I deal with this? I explain to them up front how complex these droids are, not to mention crating them, and give them a lead time of like a week. Making them appreciate how hard it is to make these also justifies whatever price you set it at. And I also give them e-mail updates every few days. I've never had a complaint yet.

I made 366 of these on different factories (+122 creature harvesters). Took me 2 weeks with 16 factories.

I only run factory runs of these, do a run of 125 every couple of weeks.
R3's arn't bad ot factory run, you just need to plan ahead. Key is always keep your factories going. Always.

LOL! I adhere to that mantra so much, I end up making some pretty weird cluster modules when other things are fully stocked.

Don't you hate it when your factory cranks out components to which you've totally forgotten why you made them?

you are in luck that you have business. for me, i have crates of R3 53pwr bomb droids fully stock and they goes extremely slowly for me. I think i need to consider adding a new vendor where else
