First of all, I'm not a DE. I *kind of* was, a long time ago.
Anyways, a few years back I went over to my friends. When I got there, they told me about a sweet new MMORPG coming out, called SWG. My friend told me you co do ANYTHING. You could be a Creature Handler, Brawler, Rifleman, Droid Engineer, Entertainer, etc.
Wait, you said Droid Engineer? Like building and customizing your own droids? DAMN! This game was going to be sweet. I dreamed of building an army of Battle Droids to do whatever I pleased. Now, Iknew these "battle droids" wouldn't be uber but I thought that I would be a quite a foe with a squad of fearless battle bots at my side. Hell, I would make other droids too... But I was more focused on my small army.
Then SWG finally launched. I made a Mon Calamari, the perfect builders, and started exploring. I remember blasting through the surveybranch and up through engineering. Placed some harvesters and gathered materials. And in little over a week, I was ready to train DE. This isn't particullary fast in these days but back then, its pretty fast. I was proud of my "Novice Droid Engineer" title.
Warp back into the past for a second... As I was aproaching DE, I learned somthing disturbing... I could only have one Droid out at a time. Ok, maybe the droids will be really strong. I checked the DE tree. Um, why is a "loading droid" in the Master Box? What about my personal bodyguards? Everything began to go downhill from there. I reached Novice DE, I still had faith. I continued to grind. Eventually I lost it. DE was stupid, worthless, and boring. Sorry if I offended anyone with that
.
What happened? Are they planning on any adding any more combat droids, that actually look cool? I don't care if they are like CL 50... It would be cool if you were PvPing and then an enemy DE released his battilion of battle droids only to be countered by yours... Cya...

Seriously I wouldn't really know, though it would be great.
I think thats something to ask a dev imo, though there is no guarntee on an answer.

as i recall this one of your arguments is one of the issues jenden is pursueing (or was last time i read about it)...
being a Master Droid Engineer is fun...but was a real pain to grind pre CU and double XP (in my opinion that way it was way too easy to become a master)...alas even a Master can only call one droid at a time (would have figured being a Master is something special - well i guess it isn't) which is tough if you have to go to some outbound harvester and have to deal with the nice inhabitants of Dathomir, which are all above my CL (...and yes i know about grouping and such but at some point ppl tell you not to waste their time to escort a little crafter...and it becomes annoying always to have to rely on others when you are the one who should be able to make combat droids - i dare not to speak about bodyguard droids)...
for my part even we seem to be a dying proffesion (in the eyes of a lot of people) i am still too proud a Wookiee to call it a day or give up...better to die proud and standing up for the few than to please "hack-and-slay" (sorry no offense at this time) mentality...

I agree. To say the least, DE defintely has the most depth compared to the other crafting professions. There is so much you could do with it. To bad SOE didn't evenbring it close to its potential. We can be a little unrealistc here, can't we? Is there not 1,000,000 Jedi running around already? Who cares anyways, its a game, so lets make it fun.
Now that characters are starting to get into the higher levels, I think its time for SOE to start adding some PvP content.* This is where battle droids would come in.A DE could build a "unit" of 5 - 10 droids and while he is building them, he could experiment on them. He could change their damage, defense, color, etc. All that good stuff. For the time being, until we get some battle grounds. The DE could release them into a city, give the droids some waypoints that are in the city and let them patrol. And outside cities, you could allow the droids to patrol a certain radius around the DE. The only restrictions would be NPC Cities, Instances, etc.
*Note: We need to go back to Covert and Overt. If you see a fellow player attackinga ST, why shouldn't you be able to attack him?
I might not be a DE anymore but I'm still one at heart. If anything, DEs deserve the next revamp.

One more thing, I'll be away for awhile.
These so called "combat droids" now, they look stupid. Lets get some cool new ones in here. I was picturing something like the droids from the newest movies. Not exactly the same, but similar.
- a "Human Like Build"
- Compact -- Easy to travel with
- Customizable
- Faction Specific Droids
- Different Weapons, Armors, Specialties -- What about programming different "moves" into the droids? Head Shot, KD Shot, etc. How about when designing a combat unit, you would have to go to a WS or AS to help boost your droids. AnAS could provide the droids with extra armor and the WS could build guns for them. The droids couldn't use every gun in the game and all the guns would have to be exactly the same.

We're definitely not a popular profession. The biggest surge the DE's have ever had was during Pub 7/8, where people just wanted to make a quick buck with the new droid stuff. But like the Shipwright with JTL, the newness died and most people dropped it again.
Eh, I'm ok with that. The revenue stream supports me in-game, but honestly the main reason I stick with it is because it feels good to be known as a leading authority in a profession. Just to have some random guy come up and say "Hey, it's the droid engineer guy". That and I still enjoy being one of the few droid suppliers in the area.

exactly....it makes one proud to be one of the few...the ones who grinded themselve to what they are now...(no offense for the respec folks but i still think it is cheap...like buying millions on ebay and getting ahead very fast - but that is only my oppinion)...
makes me sad to read that another one bites the dust...but i cannot blame him/her for there is no progress at all and no improvement in sight...
for my part i will not cheer for fixes that are long overdue or stuff that worked but got bugged with the CU...i would cheer for improvements or new things
PS: i still think Wookiees are not treated right for the lack of stuff (---> BE clothing...not that they work right now)
