Thread: Possible new BUG, Data Storage Module Lvl 6

I just spent the last hour with a customer who wanted to buy four droids. He wanted 4 R3's with the following configurations:

  • Item Storage 6, Data Storage 6, Repair Module, Medical 6, 2x Armor 4, Structure Crafting
  • Item Storage 6, Data Storage 6, Repair Module, Medical 6, 2x Armor 4, Weapon Crafting
  • Item Storage 6, Data Storage 6, Repair Module, Medical 6, 2x Armor 4, Food Crafting
  • Item Storage 6, Data Storage 6, Repair Module, Medical 6, 2x Armor 4, Food Crafting

After the sale he wanted them colored, so I had him 'tame'(god I hate 'tame') one, and I colored it. He then tries the droid out, and says it has no Data storage.

I have him transfer the droid he just pulled out to me, and I pull it out and confirm that there is no radial option for Data Storage, only Item Storage.

There are program options for repair, and examining the droid from the datapad shows a med rating of 110, so it appears that Item Storage, Repair, and Medical are working, as well as armor, since it shows medium armor with 40% resists.

Anyone else seen this problem? Could it possibly be because I used Data Storage modules from a crate produced several months back? I don't have the patience to try every combination of solutions, I'm just looking to hear if anyone has experienced the same.

I had the customer transfer the 3 unused deeds back to me, and I refunded him his money.

I should also mention that the crate I pulled the data modules from was from another DE who quit the game in disgust, but when I pull the data modules from the crate and examine them, they do in fact say functionality 11 data modules. They aren't mislabeled.

I've been a MDE since Aug 10, and I'm at my final straw here. I'm absofu.ckinglutely sick of apologizing to customers after each patch, hotfix, and change of wind direction.

Ugh, sounds Bad Foo. Modules going "bad" with age would suck!

why don't you try one of the data modules in an MSE droid and see if they work

That was an excellent idea. I hadn't thought of that.

I tried creating an MSE two ways.

First I pulled the data module from the crate, and created the droid with that module.

Worked fine, got the 'Open Droid's Datapad' off the radial.

Second I pulled the data module from the crate DURING creation.

Worked fine, got the 'Open Droid's Datapad' off the radial.

Looks like the modules are working, just not in the 4 configurations that my customer wanted.

    Any ideas?

I have a lot of crates that have gone bad with age, just not the way described here. The first ones were a set of control units which, every time I tried to remove one, would suddenly suck the thing back into the crate. I'd have to doubleclick 3-5 times and remove 2 of them to get one.

Also, a bunch of these old crates wouldn't show up in the item creation window. I have to take the part out first then build with them. They do work in factories though (so are not a complete loss when building bigger components)

Yeah this is crazy. To be honest I only make factory runs of 50-100 at a time except for Elec GP and Mem modules. I know my factory gets a real workout, and its a shame that we have to be ready for problems like this everytime a patch comes out.

Ths sounds similar to the ol' item storage in the surgical problem. Was this a basic R3 or an adv R3? I can test it next time I log on, if someone hasnt already.

Hopefulcraftermight havethe right idea on this one. It has been said that some combinations of modules can cause problems. It is likely that this is one of them. Some testing of course is in order.

FWIW, I purchased an R3 ADV droid with this very same configuration yesterday and the droid works as expected. This was on the Eclipse server. I can see and acces both the item and data storage radial menu options and the capacities are as expected.

I am an end-user, not a DE, so I don't know how the combine was done.

I don't think the radial menu items for data and item storage are in conflict. My old advanced R2 (Made in September?) easily allows me to go after both item and data storage.

It might be a silly idea but it might be worth to give it a go. In what i mean is that the Item Storage 6 and Data Storage 6 call outs on the radial might be overiding one another. Try a test with both mods in one and see if that still have the same problem. The stuff is still on the droid it's just could be a radial menu bug that we may need to know about.
