Thread: You mean to tell me....???
First of all the Droid Barker does not /shout it only says. Second the owner needs to have Novice Merchant to set the droid to bark. Third it does not constantly "Bark"like those PCs that set up a Macro and shout every 10 secs. A Player must walk by the droid in order for it to talk, like the Vendors that speak.
And finally they give out a waypoint to your shop if you want them too.

One other thing people need to keep in mind. Droids store when you log off. So inorder for you barking droid to bark, you have to be on-line.
In a different starport shouting your advertisment.

Advertising IV is a requirement for the Merchant Barker Module to work.
I would have hoped that today, looking at the in-game Merchant skill tree at Advertising IV, that it would state that Mechant Barker Module "skill" or whatever was available. But it still only says that planetary advertising costs are reduced.
Am I missing it?

What I don't understand is why they didn't do it as a holo-projection instead of spatial text.
Allow me to elaborate. Suppose that the droid projected an image of an advertisement, similar to the text bubble we currently see, except: it wouldn't show up as text in your chat windows because it is now an image instead of a sound represented as text (not spamming you anymore), it would stay up all the time like a billboard or maybe blink / fade slowly, would be semi-transparent so your vision wouldn't be totally cluttered, assignable colors, a little graphic symbol indicating what is being sold (or maybe that is by color) you get the idea. It would be like driving down a highway and seeing a bunch of billboards. They wouldn't get in the way of spatial chat or your mixed chat windows. Then I could take several people off my spam list ![]()
In addition, spam controls need to go in so that you cannot shout the same thing repeatedly. I forget which other MMORPGs already have this. Basically some sort of timer and repeat counter that would stop you from spamming. Maybe it is as simple as not allowing /shout in a macro.
Thoughts?
the droids only use "/say" rather than "/shout", "/yell", etc.
That means that the radius that the message carries is a lot smaller. If you have 50 droids squaking at the coronet starport, you won't hear a thing at the cantina.
Couple that with some of the reports trickling in that it can take up to 12 minutes for a droid to actually repeat its advertisement (some say it varies and can be as low as 2 minutes) and you're really not spaming at all.
need further proof that this won't really be all that bad?
Droids take batteries.
Whereas before, you had some schmoe sitting outside the coronet starport with a macro running while he was away learning algebra. Now, to employ a droid to do the same thing, you have to supply it with power. Power comes in the form of batteries.... you go low on power, your droid stops squaking.
It's really not bad once you think about it.
