I'm not sure why folks seem to need guidelines for pricing. Here's my perspective - charge what you want. Keep charging more until people complain, then back down on your prices. No price should ever be final - always leave room for the person to haggle over the price - so set your price a few thousand high, and see if they want to haggle. If you get a "that's too much" and they run away, send em a /tell with "What do you think is fair? We can definitely work out a deal."
Just to let ya know, the problem with asking "how much do droids costs" are as follows:
1) There are many models of droids - R2, R3, R3 Advanced, Probot, Power, you name it.
2) There are scores of modules to install in these droids, and each droid can be custom configured (or limited to what can be installed in it).
3) Every server's economy is different. Something may cost 20k on one server, and 80k on another. Please specify server when at all possible.
4) The resources you use could affect your final price. Are you buying 2k of steel at 6000 credits off the bazaar to throw together a Protocol droid, or did you harvest it for .25 credits per unit? Make sure at the minimum that you cover your costs, throw in a labor charge, maybe.
Thosepet peevesaside, here's my suggestion to you - bring up the planetary map using CTRL+V, and look for droid vendors on the right side under "vendors." Go look at some other Droid Engineer's prices for some droids, and gauge what YOU think you wanna charge. What's the highest you saw? Was it too much in your opinion? What was the lowest? What features/models did the droids have? What were popular configurations (more droids of a certain configuration on a vendor usually mean they sell well).
As for your chassis question, a chassis is not a droid that's just not programmed. It is the outer "shell" of the droid. In other words, it's got no guts haha. They can be dropped as decorations in homes, but serve little other purpose (though they let you name the droids anything you want when you create the chassis!). It looks like the droid model that uses that chassis for the droid deed, but it can't be "used" for anything, ever. A note on chassis' too - the color you paint them stays with them - you can't color them after creation since they're not "real" droids according to the droid customization tool. Paint them and name them with the idea that it's totally permanent, unless you want to destroy that chassis and make a new one.
Hope this helps.
