Thread: Help me Help my client?

Hello again folks. I want to thank all of you who so helpfully answered my previous questions and beg your indulgence again.


This is something I was unable to determine from the FAQ and cannot discern for myself.


My alt is a droid engineer and I ran into an issue with it and JTL. I an a Freelance pilot and only just decided to use a flight computer. So I have no reference to base this on.


I made a astromech droid for a guildmate last night, set him up with unprogrammed chips, went over how to program it, made certain he had a droid interface and sent him on his merry way after taking his money.


He got to the Ship terminal, programmed his droid and could not load it. Now with some thought to the issue this is what I came up with.



  1. He was not certed to use the droid.----Not the case as I made a level 1 droid and he has Rebel 1/1/1/1 I made level one as I was not certain of his Rating, did not want to over rate it on him.

  2. His ship did not have the abilty to hold a droid.---Checked the FAQ...He flies a z-95 should be good to go.

  3. He did not have the interface installed.---Made certain of that as soon as I got the tell with his difficulty. Went over the useage, and loading. Everything seemed fine.

  4. Droid Programs not installed.---Walked him through the process. No problems.

  5. The droid would not load into the slot.My thoughts on this are.


    1. Does the droid being loaded do as other parts do and list (Loaded) ?

    2. Does the droid move in the management screen windowslike other parts do when I load them?

    3. Do these two thngs NOT happen and the droid programs are only available once you acess them via the Ctrl-A Astromech sub-menu?


I'm drawing a blank folks and hope that you can help me out. I couldn't find the answers to this in either the Droid Engineering or Pilot FAQ's so I'm cross posting this in the hopes that I can get my customer what he asked me for.

The Droid doesn't actually load into anything, it's name just changes to Red after selected.


Did he actually try in space? It may have been loaded.

He tried to use it in space, however it would not run the programs. I did not know about the color change or that it did not change position when loaded. That is something that will help resolve this.


This is my thought at the moment is that he might not have been interfacing with it properly. I have this postedto the Pilot forum as well to see if they might be able to answer any of these questions.


I am going to make myself a flight computer and drop it into my ship tonight to see if I can't duplicate this issue.


Oh, and because the question was raised by a pilot. I did not experiment on the data module. From the FAQ and bug list I decided not to risk bumping it up a level. Though this should not have mattered because he is certed to use a Level 2 astromech with Alliance Pilot xxx1.

P.S. Straker, if you are still doing the update to the Droid 101, this might be something that you would want to put into it. This info on loading was not found in it or the pilot FAQ.

Yea, I am actually on leave next week, kind of cool how that worked out around the TOW expansion huh?


However, my first priority will be redoing the DE 101. Just been to busy at work lately.


You said he had a Droid interface installed, so that shouldn't be the problem. However, sometimes after putting in the Interface, you need to close the windows totally down. If all else fails have him pull out the interface and the droid and put them back in.


Also make sure he added the programs to hotkeys. A lot of people don't figure that out.

Ah hah! Ok Folks, I found my answer from the Pilots forum.


Droids will not work in starter level Z-95's


Droids will function in crafted ones however.


Perhaps this should also be inserted into the FAQ.


I thank you all for your assistance on this question, it helped me immensely!
