Thread: I'll be happy IF...

/rant on

Even if the combat implementation, droid repair, bleed resist, etc is completely destroyed and misimplemented. I'll be happy if they only fix 25% of the issues on the DE bug list. Will that happen? I kind of doubt it.

That being said, I have serious doubts about what i have seen so far on the DE side of this publish. We get another module to be added to existing droids, of which you must craft 6 to create a CL10 combat droid?I can say now that i will probably mold my buisness around utility droids and stay as far away from this insanity as possible. Why on earth would I do that to myself? Granted i havent seen the schematic for the combat module, but i am willing to bet its is more than 2 or 3 resources to make.

/rant off

Sorry for the rant, had to get that incoherant babbling off my chest/mind.

It has been posted in another thread - and here's the kicker - it doesn't need much in the way of resources, but it needs a droid brain.

I stopped making utility droids because I was sick of the broken module/cluster combinations and all the damn MA parts. As I said in another thread, looks like I"m going to do one or two more uber factory runs of Probots, stick them up on a vendor, and drop my skills, since combat droids are D.O.A. We already have CL-10 droids, this doesn't change anything but make them harder to make and now a blaster can be duct taped to a R3 (which the community emphatically said they did NOT want).

And the repair kits? All those subcomponents...bah, just let the artisans make them. I can't be bothered.

We as Droid Engineers have the knowledge and experience to understand what makes a good droid. We know their parts inside and out. We put ourselves in the production of our creations and have vision of what we like and would like to see come to our profession. Something some of us haven't grasped yet is this: it's not about us. We're the droid zealots so of course we demand what we know will be popular and great among the non-DE community. We desire high-end capable droids.

However, from the standpoint of the non-DE community, it's really about what they want. What can we make, progressively, to make our customers happy? You can bet that 75%+ would love to have an R3 with "a blaster strapped to it." Most people would be happy with a droid that can aid healing, hold loot, give crafting assistance AND shoot things! Woot! I'm looking forward to making them what they want. I'm sure the public will tear down my door at first, and then specialize. Either way, they'll be repeat customers.

We know what would rock, but that's us. The public can function on CL10 droids. Allowing more models than the generic Probot will stimulate sales and give the customer options. We all want options. If we don't give combat droids to the public in progression, however, we're hurting our profession. Just look at CH. Everyone could have any level creature. That was a mistake. Now, droids fit Star Wars more than your animal pets, but progression is the name of the game. It'll be the fuel of future design. I'm trusting the devs on this, but I'm also hoping that they have the vision to make Droid Engineer an essential profession.

History tells us that trust is a dangerous thing to put into the hands of those who do not understand the issues.

I am waiting more info...but this that I know so far scares me

What I think you are missing is that an R3 won't be able to have all those things, in addition to having a blaster strapped to it. In order to make it a CL-10 pet, you must fill all six module slots with only combat modules (if what TH says is to be believed).

All it is is a different skin for a Probot.

If you think anyone is going to want a R3 with 1 or 2 combat modules, go check out the thread when Jenden is reporting the results from TC. One or two combat modules gets you a whole 40 dmg. Couple this with the fact that the HAM on an R3 doesn't seem to have increased, and it's not even enough to take out a gnort. That's like CL-2, CL-3.

Even if you install all six combat modules into an R3 - man, that's an expensive bot. You are talking all the regular components (including two factory produced adv droid brains with 8 master artisan chips EACH), adding six new combat modules (which each require their own droid brain), all for something that is already achieved damage-wise in a Probot and decidedly inferior when it comes to HAM (it has like 1/3 of what a Probot does).

This is NOT what customers want. I actually find what they want is reflected in what we want. Not once have I ever been asked if someones R3 can be used for combat (though someone did ask once about a BLL, once they saw the old pre-nerf HAM).

I simply don't see this patch as giving us more options, and I don't see any real longevity in sales of R-units with blasters when it's a sub-par product any way you cut it. Less HAM, less mobility, and just about as un-starwarsy as you can get.

If, as you speculate, the non-DE public is satisfied with CL-10 droids, that is great - but what irritates me most about this patch is that it's simply the ground work for Droid Handler. It's nothing more. The inherent function of Probots was ripped out, and now is being put back in. To the end user nothing is changing, except for repair kits (which, let's face it, is pretty pathetic that it's taken this long to actually get them in game) and limited combat functionality to droids that shouldn't have it in the first place.

There is little in this first phase of the Droid Invasion - repair kits that should already have been in-game do not an invasion equal.

Audio, who wonders if they even know about the armor stacking issue yet

I think, on the basis of information so far, that everyone who can should be making Probots as fast as they can.

My customers do not want R3 combat droids, I already surveyed all of them by mail, Thats before any consideration of damage output..they just dont think its right.

I hope I dont have to go to the PA meeting tomorrow night and announce this. I think I'd rather do it by mail..it is so embarrassing, and I have enough of that already because poor old Probopt doesn't cut the ice.

This is exactly what we didn't want..I swear its making mild minded me feel like a knife fight.

Still..wait and see eh?

I dont care for conspiracy theories, as everyone knows

But. reading whats going on, I think we are being 'disciplined'

None of it is what could be described, even by a PR man on Crack, as a Droid Invasion. Loving for DE ??, not as far as I can see.
