Thread: Holo's new plan to really piss us off?
DE Only Certs - This is bad too. We need a market for our droids. If this was implemented, the master DE's would take down their hoppers and become a combat class. - Sketh
I disagree. We would still be able to sell 90% of our droids to anyone. I believe however, the more powerful and complicated droids should only be handled by DE's. They are the only ones capable to maintain such a complex droid so-to-speak.
You argue that it would lessen our market. Well, there are weapons only a BH can use. Does that lessen a weaponsmiths market? No.

Forgive me, bad example. ![]()
They had better add a heck of alot of droids that can be made.
They also better be able to allow a DE to customize the droid to allow it to do tricks and things.
And they better allow a Droid engineer to be able to heal the Vitality back and also make bigger weapons, and actaully use the level 6 components.
I personally think a Droid engineer should be able to pull out 1 droid per skill level they get, so that a novice could take 2 out, and a master would get to have alot.
Yeah thats alot...but lets be realistic...they are machines...disposable...
The only way for a Non-DE to have more out would of course be for them to get Faction Levels....
Or perhaps their proffession would allow them more at certain points.
But breaking this proffession into two will not solve many issues....it will add some....
Unless they decided to make a very specific 3rd level proffession based on this one...i.e. you have to be a Droid engineer to get it.
Then I think that would work.
yeah they could split the skills in two for that elite elite one....2 skills for combat stuff with robots and 2 slots for more creation of them.
Oops sorry Zbus,
Just saw your apology... Listen everyone has a right to an opinion - some agree - some disagree. Bottom line - lets fix the class. It'sdefinitely broken and it NEEDS some luvin now not later.

"Now Plzurpilot, if your going to make an anology make it logical. First of all a F14( etc. )is NOT built by ONE person. It takes many different people with different tasks to build the plane. This has no comparision to a guy who built the droid all by himself ALL BY HIMSELF. So there I just shot your anology down like the Devs have been shooting us down. How does it feel? Sucks huh? I will continue to disprove all ideals that support the droid handler class, because the class is basically...idiotic. Sorry you had to be the first but you asked for it."
Actually - if you want reality ONE person cant make a complex Robot (and I really dont care what he did on episode 1 - because one 5 year kid cant make acomplex robot) - cant make a Factory, 2- story house, 3 story guild hall, complex hi-tech gun, a mine installation etc....
Listen its not about reality - throw it out the window. Its about balance.
-JediAvenger-
A couple of thoughts - the 'handler' idea doesn't fit - lets change it
DE can still make the same droids they always have, and can use them just like anyone else -
Some changes - allow the DE to put components produced by other artisans/crafters into the final assembly, yes, I want to be able to put in a lightning canon component into a droid so it does a different type of damage. I want the Architects to produce the crafting stations I put into the droids, I want the medical droids to actually heal but the Docs of the game have to produce the charged components I can refill the droid with.....etc....etc...etc.....
Now for the realclass instead of Droid Handler/Rangler
How about SOFTWARE ENGINEER
The SE, takes the basic droid produced and begins to enhance it, namely, changing the AI and routinesassociated with it to provide new and special manuevers. I produce a probot that can attack with the normal attack, heck, all I knew how to do was program the attack command. The SE came along and said, well, well, well. Lets give it a knockdown, here is how I program it, by the way, the success of the knockdown is related to the components I used ( GP has to be high quality, MM has to be high quality
and the software design and coding ability of the SE are included also. Lets just carry this example a little further. I build a 3po droid which the SE promptly takes and begins to program with TKA moves, rock'n I say!
So, the SE sees my power droid and says, pretty kewl but what can you do with it. Nothing really I say. He says, let me hack on it awhile and see what I can come up wtih. Before you know it, he has added the programming to allow my Power droid to remember the WPs for my harvesters and trained it to take power out to them and run maintenance on them. WOW I say, as a DE I can still produce the same ol stuff I could before that people can use but as an SE also, or in conjunction with an SE I can really make things that rock and are far more useful.

finaly someone with the same ideas as mine to post =) And by someone who probalby didn't get a D in college english to communicate it better than me.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Holo has indicated that there will be some sort of gating on powerful combat droids. He has also stated that just what this gating will be is still undetermined.
Right now, there are basically four options out there:
- Droid Handler
- DE Only certs
- Combat class certs
- General certs
Droid Handler - This would be awful. With the master artisan thing, DE's wouldn't be able to get mastery of this, and many, probably myself included would leave the DE profession.
DE Only Certs - This is bad too. We need a market for our droids. If this was implemented, the master DE's would take down their hoppers and become a combat class.
Combat Class Certs - This is bad, too. Once again, most DE's that I know are DE's because they like their droids. If they wanted tons of money, I think that they would be weapon or armor smiths, not DE's.
General Certs - This is the idea that I think could work. There is a great system based off a scaled system, where higher level skill bubbles give more points than lower skill level bubbles proposed by Raleran0 that can be found at:

In general, I don't like certs from a logical perspective. I agree - droids are very smart computers. They are not Unix command shells - you don't have to know how to program them. They aren't even Windows version 20,000,000 - all you have to do is tell them what to do.
However, there is no way that the devs will let us make some uber battle droids thata novice marksman or chef can use. So, I still think that our best course of action is come up with a solution that gives the DE's the ability to USE and SELL their droids, and, at the same time, gives the gating that the devs are going to require.
Holo said:
Newark, Birmingham, Las Vegas, St Petersburg, Akron, Baton Rouge... what do these cities have in common? Well, they’re in a given population bracket. It happens to be a population bracket SWG shares. I am almost positive that all of those cities have more people on staff than SWG does. They also get considerably more of your money than we do, of course. On the flip side, I am willing to bet that we get more service requests than they do, and a lot of them are tougher to solve. I don’t want to stretch the analogy too far, because soon someone will say that the droid engineer profession is comparable to not having the electric grid up in their neighborhood, or something, and it’ll start getting silly.

Some of you are _still_ missing the point.
The owner needs no skill, all the hard parts have been done by the Engineer, if you goes wrong you take it back the Engineer
Getting a droid to do something thats within its programming is as simple as _telling_ it what to do
So DH = certs on who can actually speak
Lets not make any mistake here, all DH is is an idea by Holo/Devs on how to control combat droids. I've said it before I'd rather have new combat droids equal to the hardest CL15 creature pet than see droid certs or a DH prof in the game.
and if droids = to a CL15 creature pet are too tough......then perhaps, just perhaps the devs need to look at the CH15 pets and _NOT_ droids for where the problem is.......
let be clear here -
anything that can be crafted in this game ( weapon, armor, etc ) should be able to be used on a droid, the weapons used by the droid should be no different then those of a marksman, it is the programming that allows it to be better or worse.
My modified 3po droid with a built in LLighning Canon should be able to do 1k worth of damage IF I was able to get the components crafted and put into the droid successfully.
The ability of the Combat droid to use utilize the new hardware is upto the Software Engineer who programs it to recognize and understand the use of the device.
Guys - you buy a printer for your computer at home, your computer does not know how to use it unless there is a software driver to support it and allow printing to it on your current Operating System. Now, when I am ready to print a document out, I don't have to call the 'Microsoft Word Handler' to come over and print it for me. Thank god the 'Word Handlers' already programmed everything in so the common man like myself could print a document out.
Very simple, people use devices, the way in which a device can be used is predetermined by the engineer that created it and the embedded engineer that programs it.
