Thread: Our DE Correspondent

Drashk is the DE Correspondent, not the DE Advocate. From what I can best tell, a correspondent's job is to facilitate an intermediate reporting relationship between SOE and the players, mostly to tell us what the devs are going to do, and occasionally to solicit player feedback. The correspondent also needs to write effectively in order to sumerize ideas.

What many players don't realize is that they have very little control over how the game is developed. That is why, when the developers state intentions that are 180 degrees from what the "community" wants, you find wailing and grinding of teeth on these boards, and calls for correspondent resignation, as if somehow the process has broken down. These forums give a false sense of power and voice to players, and they think they have a great say in the outcome of development events. The truth is probably closer to the opposite; game development teams make changes and features based on their own priorities, and official game forums are utilized as a release valve for player frustrations.

Frankly and bluntly, I am very tired of these calls for resignation, as if the correspondent is the governor of a troubled state billions of dollars in debt. It would be best for all if these hecklers went back to shooting durni or whatever else it is they do when they're not pouting on these forums.

More like, "Adapt or leave"... which is what MANYpeople are doing.

...I haveexpectations from a company trying to bill itself as customer responsive and player focused. Honestly, SOE would be better served by just dropping their fascade and passing down the changes from on high.

They won't though, they have to keep false face, because IMHO they are losing people and the holiday influx of players was lower than their projections. Why else re-up cancelled accounts, make it "Jedi for everyone even quicker than before" season, toss Imperial Crackdown without communicating it earlier, and trying to add Droid content that is half assed?

They're hurting and scrambling for ways to keep membership up. And one of those ways is to string people along. And DrashK, the DEs and the entire player community is stuck with/in it until someone with some integrity speaks up over at SOE.

You are so right it hurts... and I personally will not be strung along like that. If they continue to ignore what the people who pay their salaries want, then I'll leave their asses behind like I would with anybody who refused to do quality work for me. If they go ahead with DH/DC/whatever, I WILL quit this game... and I really hope a dev reads this, because he can take it to the bank. I'm already signing up for WoW beta tomorrow.

SOE, you had better take us to heart and RE-THINK what you are doing. Even if it puts some of your other plans on hold (which, by the way, are also going to drive people away from the game, judging by the noise on other forums)... this game is spiralling ever-faster away from a true Star Wars experience.

as far as I'm concerned, if we can **edit** and complain, so can he.

The more I think about it, the more I think this threadis just an example of the Ad Hominem fallacy.

You don't like what Drashk is saying, so you attack what he is saying by attacking him.

What you fail to see is that SOE is not Drashks boss. On the contrary, as a paying player he is as much boss of SOE as we are.

Uhm, to bring some sense into that, we are not his boss, too. He is a representative of the DE community, and thus, a part of it. Not our employee.

Great! This thread has gone another page, and the only **edit** is still about possible fallout from a technicallity. I say possible because noone can prove in the thousands of posts on here ONE INSTANCE where Drashk has sold us down the road in favor of his opinions. NOBODY is saying that this couldnt happen! We are saying that it HASNT happened, so what is the problem?

Please **edit**can this point, because argueing "whatifs" is a waste of **edit**ing time and the logical position of a whiner with victim mentallity!

My view is this:

SOE Dev Godly( they code the system)

TH - SOE Customer Relations person (obtains feed back from us good or bad / leaning o BAD most often)

Draskh - TH assistant ( listens to us whine / cry / plea / cheer whatever about DE field) then funnels information in a fomated manner to TH.

US - The unfortunate / the unheard / the silent / the lambasted / the cleaver / the designing / the prodigy

The DE players of the various servers, at the mercy of the GODs.

Now if you look at it in a numbers/volume perspective getting thru a funnel:

US generates a funnel full of ideas 24/7

Draskh the funnel filters the funnel allowing certain amounts of information thru

TH fiters even more. SINCE after all he all areas to report to developers on.

SOE Devs code miniscual parts from each area.

This amounts to like only 2-3 of ALL our ideas getting thru to an actual developer.

The TOP 5 LIST of concerns is a TOTAL fluke, the last time TH had somebody review it we got wishy washy answers at BEST.

I to like many of the other old timers have played DE since release, making MDE in early September, leaving breily after bordum from making droids set in. Lack of variety yada yada this has been beat to death many a day. To say the least I to may walk the line of my former brethern.

play a politician from the get go talk about a primadonna coorespondent she was...uh the new one baj is great ...anyways its not that drash is disagreing its a matter of that there is very few paths to get this matter of clearing up what can be done, done. in the case of the DEVS they told D. what they can do and what there plans are and more or less we color in some of the details, lets be honest we all dislike the sp's for cl's for droids but there is so few reasonable work arounds that were not going to see another system for years...in any case i support D. he has a tough job and has been doing a good job of getting back what we say to the Devs.
