Shouldn't this stuff already be in the works? Didn't they(SOE) say that we were getting something new this month and next month? I would think that this decision has already been made if they are planning to accomplish their spoken plan.
That aside, if in #1 you mean strapping pistols to R2 units as adding a function, I say hell no to that. I think you need to be more clear in your definition of functionality. SOE needs to make each chasis have some special function so that it actually makes a difference which one you choose. Also, they need to introduce a couple more modules as has been pointed out in various posts over the last several months.
If #2 means that they won't strap guns to R2 units then that'd be good too.
Anyways, I think they have already made this decision. We've got new content coming this month and next month (haha).

I get asked about cool combat droids more than anything! That is what is lacking the most right now!

#1 it must then be.
Utility could have been had with fixing bugs in the existing chasis. Otherwise there's not much left to add. Coding more non-combat functions into droids just seems so out of the reach of the Devs, they can't even make Repair droids repair.
If combat is the only thing they can do right, and they WON'T add a droid Cert system for all players' general levels, then combat it is and I'll be dammmnedif I'll hand my best fighting droid over to some numbnut who's entire education is Eng IV and the ability to shout "A".
Let's bite the bullet and "Handle" our own droids. Even cutting them down to half the power of a MCH's pets would still be great. Perhaps even 1/3 the power of a CH pet and let us control more. Droids don't have a language barrier with their masters and moreover they worship their builders.

Blah, of course I meant #2.
Reading the title of the post leads me to believe Combat=1
