I have been a big proponent of having languages cost skill points:

1) Learning languages is a skill...it should cost you something, like one point each.
2) As you point out, it would give the protocol droid a purpose in life other than as a statue or a shuttleport component. Just pull out the ol' trusty 3P0 droid if your wookiee needs to communicate to people in spacial, and the chat balloon appears over the droid with a "Rasal: blahblahblah".
3) Expanding on point #2, protocol droids should have the inherit ability to speak all languages.
4) People can still /tell each other if there is a language barrier, so it's not like changing the language requirements would alter the very fabric of the game.
5) It would make barking protocol droids almost necessary in order for it to advertise.

My 2 cts about this...
I've read many nice proposals and ideas already, and I apologize beforehand if I repeat them in some way.
1. Allow the DE more than the basic 5 droids. I mean, a CH can have, what is it, 20+ creatures stored? A DE should be able to show his merchandise, and with only 5 droids to choose from??? Way to few.
2. Second comparison to DE: a MCH can have up to 3 pets out at the same time + a normal droid. To give us DE's an edge, why can't we be allowed the same: 1 NON-ch pet + 3 droids?? That gives us the ability to repair our own droids, while still being protected by a probot hovering above our head.
3. For certain droids, I might find it usefull to have more people "granted" usable access. Like the personal crafter station droids, med droids with stimpack dispenser, or even the ones with item storage.
4. Read on "binding droids to houses/structures" and add "ships" as well!
5. Fix the item storage bug! A L1 item storage module give 10 item storage while a L6 module does the same. So why bothering makeing a L6??
6. Improvethe CHB module rating. A L6 medical module giving MED110 is too easy to do, while a CHB getting 106 is as tough as it is already, let alone a CHB110 rating!
7. Modules on stats in human (rodian/twi'lek, any)readable format. A combat rating module with rating 189 doesn't say anything to me. Nor does a data storage level 8....
8. Add macro to replace the battery, /replaceDroidBattery or something
9. BLL/Treadwell are as good as obsolete. BLL: as it name tells, allow it to have a basic cargo capacity of 100 items (example). Adv. 150. I mean, the damn thing is very expensive in resources, so why not make it worthwhile buying. Treadwell: i'm not sure where to place this one... besides it's funny look...
10. Allow droids WITH personality chip to be named... Why this is not allowed I cannot comprehend.
11. Surgical: why name it surgical if it does not add? Have it add a + bonus of healing to it's owner/granted users.
12. Repair: likewise! This makes it also a shift to be used _during_ repairs of clothing, armor, weapons!!! New market.
13. Power droid: has nothing to do with power. Allow it to recharge droids, but also (see point 4) to add power to factories and harvest (and maybe GET it from power generators)!
14. Fix the issue when combining an item storage module and a data storage module, only one is working.
15. Add the battledroid(s) (from ep1)
I will stop my ranting now

Just adding to the previous post.
Surgical droids should be capable of healing players, any players regardless of the med skills I think. But require it to use medical supplies. I don't know about buffing, I can see pros and cons to buffing. If they buff, then of course supplies should be needed, and performer buffs should degrade each time a small amount requiring them to get new recordings from performers from time to time.
People with no combat skills should be allowed to use a good droid or pet for defence against NPCs and creatures. It is very frustrating using all SP for merchant/crafting and best defense out there is a stinking probe droid. SBDs would be too scary, but cool to have if nerfed, but I'd really still love (I am repeating) an HK-47 type droid.
SURVEYING DROIDS! These would be a BIG BOOSt for DEs. Disposable droids that survey and give WP for hotspots on a planet to mine instead of just reporting what resources are avialable. Or droids that can extend the scanning range or something to cut down on the hours spent surveying and falling asleep on the AV-21 trying to find that 90+ hotspot that is always under a POI or CITY!

16) Progrmmable PERSONALISATION chips! Make them with the responses we (our customers) would like to see/use.

Would be cool if combat droids could be made sliceable, for damage, speed, or HAM. I would also like to see the rest of the droids in the game craftable, not just the droidika's and SBD's, but the ones from Jabba's palace, or nym's stronghold. It would also be nice to see a master DE quest like armorsmith has.

Does anyone have a link to a thread that explains in detail why a droid commander profesion would be neccesary for more worthwhile combat droids? What about having a droideka (as an either rare or master DE schematic) or some other droid that's primary purpose is combat?
Most of the people I've talked with in game aren't too thrilled with JTL (i got bored with it myself quite quickly) and I would much rather see improvements to the ground game as well.
