Thread: My thoughts on pricing in general
DE's asked for the droid vendors to be removed because DE's cannot match the prices it sold the droids for - now that you know that you can either
a. Give up on investigation (as many of your fellow BH's are doing)
b. Put presure on the devs to increase mission payouts
Howver are you aware that the devs had said these droids will be getting multiple 'uses' soon? In addition the fact that you use several droids to find a mission you like is not a DE's concern - you are making a choice to use additional droids on a mission you wont get a payout from therefore it is inaccurate to factor those Probe droids into the cost equasion
I'm sorry to come over so uncaring but DE's have enough problems to worry about and we've had 1 too many BH's in here flaming about this since the vendors were removed.
However we are getting OT now - this isnt about BH droid pricing, its about droid pricing. We just seem to keep coming back to BH droids because they are probably the only ongoing markets DE's have (the plus side of this for you BH's is theres lot of competition so you can shoparound for the best price)
Quite well aware of the patch change that will make the droids multiple use. Most of us are dying for it to be implemented ASAP. I'm also painfully aware of the fact that you guys wanted the terminals removed so you could compete with the pricing. Fine - I don't dispute that and I honestly don't have a problem with it.
The point of my post is that if you want to capture the market then you're going to have to be aware of the what affects the market. Believe me we're screaming our heads off trying to get mission payoffs raised (not that anyone honestly gives a crap either down here or up there), but in the meantime you are essentially suggesting that we give up our investigation line hence negating our need for your droids.I fail to see how you expect to make money from a market if you drive away the people in that market. I'm not trying to flame here really..I'm just trying to put in some outside feedback on the issue. As I said previously I'm certainly not going to tell you what to price your droids at - that is as always your prerogative. What I was attempting to do is provide a typical customer example for you to gain some insight into the market you're attempting to tap. Anyhow, since its quickly becoming clear to me from the lovely messages that I've received that my post was not viewed as constructive or welcome, I'll politely leave your forum and never return.
Best of luck in your endeavors.
first of all, im too lazy to calcuate the best prices so i just go by www.swgdroid.com I spend all my calcuating time determining the right amout of stuff to make so i dont screw up another factory run.
Second of all, just because they nerfed probots dosent mean its any cheaper or easier to make, so i dont drop my prices for a probot to the same thing i charge for a tredwell, its stupid.
And third of all, you who sell astromechs on the bazzar for 3k, good. I have no problem with it, good luck to ya, i got 7 harvesters going because i choosen not to unattended macro at night like you to get the resources to sell them that cheap.
And things like the Biniary load lifter, iv made 5 in 5 days, you cant put a price on the stress it causes to make them because of the factory issues and failing after its all there.
So i charge 70k, not just thats what i feel their worth for ME to make, but because i can get along just fine making surgical droids, ill let the next DE make you a B.Load Lifter for 20k
Unfortunately some things cannot be realistic and be fun at the same time - in a game fun will/must always win
screwing over other players
Nobody is screwing anyone over here. Geez, next thing we know ... some of you "be nice and cooperate" folks will be abuse-reporting other droid engineers for having the gall to price less.
Folks, the lot of you waver back-and-forth between "this is a business" and "this is a game".
When someone says "Hey, I'm having fun! I hope you are, too!" You say "this is a business and you're screwing us over".
When someone says "OK, in a real business, here are the facts ..." you say "it's a game, get over it!"
Well, pick one kiddies. If you want to flame, at least get your flames consistent.
And, before you pick one, here are my responses to both arguments:
Realism Argument: "It's a business, and you're ruining the economy. Raise prices!"
Your statement is, by merely saying it, illegal in the real world. Yes, price fixing does exist (OPEC is a good example). But, when found within the boundaries of most countries, it is prosecuted.
Game Play Argument: "You're spoiling my fun by pricing so low!"
I cannot and will not be held responsible for what you perceive as fun.
Name Calling: "You're stupid and must be losing money at those rates"
Um, I'm not. I'm doing quite well thank you.
Michela, as logical as your arguments might be, you have a tendency to come off as obnoxious and rude, you've insulted people who have never insulted you and then complain about people being children while they flame and name-call. Hello pot? This is the kettle...you're black.
Get off your high-horse and quit being so condescending to people. Even though you make valid points, no one is going to want to concede them when you present them in such a fashion. (And before you say it, I know you don't care if people agree with you or not)
Jonas,
You're right, I insulted you when you had not done the same to me, and it was uncalled for. I apologize for that.

I'm not a producer, I'm probably your customer. Let me say this. On one of my typical missions, I might burn through something to the tune of 5 or6 arakyd probe droids (this is to locate a mission that is time/cost effective) and about 5-10 seeker droids. This is per SINGLE mission. At my current rate, I'm pacing myself to do about 5 missions per day at a minimum. This means ideally I'd be looking to burn through about 25-30 probe droids and 25-50 seeker droids.
No offense, but the fact that you use three times as many probe droids per mission as the typical BH, doesn't mean the market should accommodate you. For cryin' out loud, 5 or 6 probe droids per mission?! I understand that you don't want to incur a greater travel cost than might be necessary, but there is an obvous tradeoff there.

The people who sell insanely low don't do it to make money, as Madcat said. I hesitate to call it griefing, but that's kind of what it is . . . screwing over other players for no reason other than "I felt like doing it that way."
My response to that can be boiled down to three points:
- In most cases I'd bet you're perceiving malice where there is none.
- In many cases where you believe your peers are selling too cheaply, they're actually doing quite well for themselves, and it might behoove you to figure out how they're doing it rather than insisting they stop.
- The economy is realistic enough that people who actually are selling too cheaply won't be able to keep it up in the long run, so it really doesn't matter if they're malicious or just shortsighted. Even if they're malicious, sooner or later this kind of "griefing" will be too much work to be fun. Probably much, much sooner.

1. You're probably right, that's why I don't think griefing is the right word.
2. see #3
3. I could give away all my droids for free if I felt like it. So far, I've only sold 4 droids. I currently make all my money selling personal harvesters and resources. Someday, I'd like to be able to have a self supporting droid business, but it's hard enough grinding to get to something useful without having to worry about the economy, too.
Mine are a bit lower, was due to the patch that nerfed credits from mission terminals and all of a sudden people became poor and couldnt afford jack. But I'm thinking its time to raise them back up.

Before the mission credit nerf I did 5k per skill level starting at Novice, thinking about doing that again now that everyone has money again.
