Thread: Combat Droids: A Focus Thread
Okay. Instead of having a running discussion like civilized people do when we disagree, let's all shrug our shoiulders, yell in varying sizes of font that the issue is a dead horse that no one will ever agree on and give up. Please. If we as a community can't even figure out what we want, how in the world do we expect to get a Droid Engineering profession that we can all enjoy playing? Are the developers supposed to use their amazing psychic mind reading powers to figure out what we want, since we can't seem to do it ourselves?
I am amazed and appalled at the sheer number of people who have vehemently attacked myself and my premise because they are too stubbornly attached to their own views to engage in an actual constuctive discussion about the subject. And you know, that's all I'm going to say about it, because obviously discussion is taboo in this community.
There is already a great wealth of debate and information on this forum concerning the DE combat droid issue. Everything that needs to be written about this issue has already been written, many times over. The context of the debate will not change until SOE gives specifics on combat droids, or asks for further feedback from the community.
To find all the posts relating to DE combat droids, find the original DE "plan" post from this board's correspondent and then search the topics of the next 2-3 weeks after that date.
Kurt, you're about the 28972367th person to come along and start yet another new consensus thread where we can all talk about all the same suggestions with all the same reasons that they will or won't work.
Oh, and you're also the 28972367th person to say "why can't we just work this out" and "I'm appalled by all the vehemence" and then get all snotty about how we don't want to kowtow to your suggestions.
We're sick and tired of people who cannot do anything about it trying to resolve this issue. Posts like this one do NOTHING to help. WE HAVE SAID IT ALL BEFORE. And nothing has changed since the last time we said it all.
Face it, any time EricTheGreat and I agree about this topic, you KNOW that Satan's wearing ice skates.
THE HORSE IS DEAD. STOP BEATING IT ALREADY.
As I am also a TKA I want to say that a droid cert for combat droids in ranged support 4 and DE is a bad idea. Just because I am working to MDE Inot every other TKA is.
I thought about that. Range Support 4 is a good place for people with ranged weapon skills. What about melee folks? Is there an equivalenet to Ranged Support for melee types? That would be a good place for an equivalentcertification.

Neshura,
You are ONE lucky DE - to have close personal friends as MA, Merchants, Weaponsmiths, and what have you - all the skills you wanted to drop.
I'm glad that you have found a path that suits you well.
For the rest of us:
I've tried several times to build close relationships with Artisans, Merchants and others professions alike.
This game is too transient to rely too heavily on other people for support.
I'm glad you were able to find your way to the perfect solution.
Every attempt I've tried to free up skills has lasted a short while and then fallen apart.
If your MA friend decided not to log in for a week or two, what would you tell YOUR customers?
"I'm sorry but I'm having supply problems. I will complete your order as soon as possible."
I once even provided MA parts to a 'reliable' Architect to build 10 Power Core Units. He even asked for ore after that. I haven't seen him online since I spent the time and resources to give him 'free' parts to craft me what I needed.
It's great that you were able to set up your character in the perfect situation, but I would guess that your experience is quite unique and rare.

I agree. The issue of whether or nor DEs should have DE-only droids is divisive and we should just agree to disagree on this one.My personalbelief is that most people want to see some manner of DE-only perk.
The majority of DEs want to be able to use all the droids they can make, except for profession-specific droids like BH droids and the medical abilties of medical droids (unless they have those skills).
I agree that most DE probably want to use the droids they create, but only a few I've seen want 'perks' for being DE.
I don't want any perks, just the ability to use what I build.
And to anyone that wants to argue THAT point, tell me, good or bad, WHY CH can create and use their own products.
The current CH profession is a combination of Handler AND Tamer. And it's stupid.
It means that the only people that can USE creatures are the same people that can CREATE creatures.
So where's the market? Are you going to sell creatures to OTHER CH???
There needs to be a real Handler profession for both DE AND CH.
Then it doesn't matter about randomly interspersing Handler skills for ANY pet throughout other (proposed) combat skills.
ANYONE can take the Handler skills and use droids or creatures.
I know points are scarce. But I can't see any other solution that addresses most people's issues.
I DO NOT want the droid usage skills scattered throughout the DE profession the way creature usage skills will be disppersed through the CH profession with the new revamp.
The only one that will be able to use the top combat droids will be MDE. So who do you sell combat droids to?
Other MDE???
