Thread: Fostering better DE communication or Why this DE forum needs a memory wipe...
I'm glad to see that voice is being used to promote something so worth while.
I stopped posting here for a while because I didn't like the flavor it left
in my mouth. I'm through this forum (and others) daily, but I don't post unless
I have soemthing important to say. As evidenced by my low number of total posts.

I started posting again recently, and a number of those have been to scold others for
being rude. The climate here has definitely changed.
I, too, hope that this forum can be as great a place as it used to be.
I hope that the upcoming publishes can bring DE closer to what we all want it to be.
I love being a DE. I used to love the DE community. Things have just gotten ugly.
Now there are too many posts with things like "FOR NO APPARENT REASON" and "NO EFFECT
WHATSOEVER" in them.
Here's the deal: We don't know the whole plan. We don't know how every piece of the game
fits together with every other piece. And, we sure as hell don't know how to code it.
There are always going to be things we don't like about the game. It will never be perfect.
Funny thing is, we'll even disagree on what the problems are.
We have two options:
1. Trust the dev's to take our input into consideration and believe that they have the
best interests of the players in mind.
2. Shut up and/or stop playing.
Griping does ablolutely no good.
Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean it's wrong.
Changing things isn't always bad.
"Nerf" is a stupid term used to pigeon-hole changes into a grossly overused category that
carries a negative connotation.
All that being said, I've also seen some great ideas and good interaction here.
Let's have a lot more of that.
Changes to droids affect every player in the game. This puts our profession in a very
precarious position. A change to our profession can change gameplay for every other
character in the game. This gives us a heightened level of responsibility.
I always happy to see us living up to that position.

Just a FYI, but in 2 days it'll be my 6 month mark as a Master DE, and I've been hearing promises since the begining. I've also picked up BE, and I'm amazed at what a robust and interesting profession it is.
Ackis, it is soooo interesting that you brought up this particular profession, because that was the exact profession I attempted after Month 1. I went all the way up the Medic tree while I was working on my engineering (i'm REAL slow :smileyhappy
and decided to give it a try. Actually made it to 1/0/2/0 before I realized that, at that time, it was THE most broken and disheartening profession I could think of. BE's couldn'tuse half of the stuff that they made and I ended up selling more bioengineered animals that didn't work or just weren't good enough with unhappy customers abounding.Collectingsamples was a huge pain, and it really didnt matter what you were using becuase you almost always got the same result.Heck, the BE experimentation didn't really even DO anything at that time. Nothing that I made, besides my craptastical pet stims, was of value to any other person in the game. I had to beg people to take some of it, and they were like..."what good does that do me"? Being new, I didn't have an answer for them, and maybe sold 5 useful pets in over a month and a half in the profession. And when it came to getting the "evil eye", let me tell you I had a CH or two throw one my way.
I dropped BE and went whole hog into Master Artisan, not really knowing where I would end up. I didn't really care much for most of the other professions and had always wanted to see how droids were made, and so chose that path. I've never looked back.
So what made the big difference about that profession? Time. Time for the developers to take a look at it, time for them to identify what they could and could not do to fix it, and time for the players to change their way of thinking. Is ita perfect profession? No. Is it loads better than it was at launch? Positively. Remember, BE is one of the FIRST professions that the Dev's redesigned from the ground up. That has to say something about how bad things were, don't you think?Things are so much better now, that I actually have a character on Intrepid that I'm grooming to be a Smuggler and BE, just for the "hallibut" ![]()
Anyway, I guess what I'm getting at here is that if weapproach this as a marathon, instead ofa 100 meter dash, we WILL see things come to us. We have problems, that is no joke, but you and the other MDE's that have been here for the long haul have something to be positive about right within your sight. Don't give up on it yet, you may always look back and wonder about it.
Great spirit of communication.
Anyone wanna own up to deleting my posts asking why a change went into effect on DSC's.

Yea...well, I'll own up to 1-starring you for bringing a 'ranty' tone into a thread that focuses on more positive and constructive attitude and posting (to help save this DE forum).

I don't really care much if you rant (heck..I'm guilty of a few whoppers, meself)....but I won't let you do it here.
No more. If I see you do it, you'll get 1-starred everytime (at least by me).
It's that 1-starring that sank your post, man. I'm sure you likely haven't change your forum preferences to level 1 so that you can view all posts. If you do, you'll see your post reappear.
Take your rants and gripes, elsewhere. This is the new and improved DE forum, thank you.

Respectfully,
Thanks for the information. Did not know that and that's the first time I've ever seen that effect.
Dont suppose you tell me why complaining about a nerf that affects both our communities (mine more SO FAR) is a rant? Again I say, what new and improved DE forum? What new and improved communication?
All I see is starts and stops. For example, experimentation got a great start for ALL CRAFTERS with the input from Chrysalide and TH. Started off with great promises and talk of communication improving and they disappeared.
So, one-star away. Devs need to followup on what they say and not blame the crafting (or any) community for a track record that continues to be full of non-answers. Even if you "won't let you do it here."

Cafa -
This really isn't the place for the change in the DSC. While the change in the DSC is indeed a droid issue, it belongs in the other thread. I can understand your being upset, but please, do not hijack this thread.
I would like to see this thread stay positive - if even TK is willing to offer forth an olive branch, and we get a Dev response, I would like to see if things work out.
While there have been problems in the past with communication and things getting done, this may be the window of opertunity for droids and DE's.
Lets not waste that with the flames and rants - they have all already been made, anyway...
My apologies. Good luck.
