Thread: First lowered HAM, now no regen... Whats next?
ArthurDentOnBria wrote:Well, I think you guys are overreacting and missing the "big picture" here. I made a noob-ish probot the other day. I put in a couple of combat modules, a medical module, a storage module, and an auto-repair module in it. Nothing real super-duper quality, but just what I could make with my noobish DE resources. It came out with a level 18 droid, and when I took it out and hunted with it, level 20 creatures were overmatched by the droid. I even attacked a level 25 NPC and the droid bested it pretty easily.
So despite the cries of "nerf!" what we have here is the ability to create droids that require no certifications, and even without armor, and with only 2 combat modules, it's still able to solo level 20+ creatures pretty easily. And it'll even hold your luggage for you, lol.
That's not too shabby

It's going to be a level 18 droid if you put 0 modules in a Probot or 5. They all are. That doesn't change and is not an indicator of anything - it's an arbitrary number they gave combat droids in general.
The simple fact is, they are now less powerful then they were. They may still be adequate, but "cry" or not, nerf is the applicable term. Plain and simple. There was no trade-off, nor any other change - a feature was there, now it's removed. About as pure a case of nerf as ever there was.
We are talking about HAM regeneration here, not attack ability. It now does not regenerate at all, which means you HAVE to use a repair kit. Before, you used repair kits when you wanted to make the droid heal FASTER, now you have to use one to make it heal AT ALL.
I would have no problem if it had been simply greatly tuned down. When I began this thread, as I noted in my inital posts, I was unaware how much it had been tuned up. It would be fine if you could sit in a camp with them and slowly regenerate when out of combat, but now you MUST have a droid repair kit or it will never regenerate. Think of it like healing - when you absolutely can't find a doc, you sit it out in the medical center; it's slow, painful, but it works in a pinch.
In the end, it's just another reason for people to not use droids. At this juncture in our history, that's the total opposite of what we need.
AO
It also still repaired while in the datapad. So you’re not totally lost if you don’t have repair kits, but it’s not too useful for regular use.

Ok this is good for Droids, seriously, if you don't think so you are not looking at the big picture.
Our goal as Droid Engineers should be to make everybody want to have 5 droids in their datapad. You want specialized droids for different uses. You DON'T want one Droid that does everything. With the old regen rates, you basically made it so Auto-Repair modules, Stim Packs, and other Tank versions were useless. Due to the old really fast repair rates, basically every single Droid was a Tank droid, there was no reason to sell anything but pure combat droids.
Now with the current repair rates people are faced with choices. All damage, fast healing, or a combination of both.
To those saying that droids are now worthless, you are very wrong. First Armor works now, so Droids take less damage. Second, I make Droid stims with 1800+ healing with 40 charges. By using those Stims, a droid can tank far better then one with the fast regen rate.
This is good.
I think that the Regen rate is there so that the droid can heal itself while in the datapad.
From pre-Live, the rate was 5 points per 90. I bugged this one, since it was before the regen removal patch notes.

I understand that.

Not true. There actually is a tradeoff here, a big one in fact. We actually had the exact opposite with pets in bio-engineering. Before the CU, pets had very close to 0 regen. The bad thing about this is that people had to use pet stims. The good thing about this is people had to use pet stims... think about it. They changed this so that pets had uber regen, and that too was seen as a nerf (to stim makers). No more use for stims, in a matter of days it went from a "bread and butter" item, to one that you couldn't even give away.
In the end, it's just another reason for people to not use droids. At this juncture in our history, that's the total opposite of what we need.
/shrug in theory that could be true, but as a droid user myself, it's not a killer. I actually think that in the balance, with all things considered, "combat droids" are much much much more attractive now then they were before the CU, partially because of how wild creatures have been nerfed, partially because of how non-ch BE pets have been nerfed, and partially because of how crippled non-combatants are in the wild now.
