Thread: barker droid concern

The idea was fine, but the implementation sucks....
Instead of spam-bots, which the barker droids currently are, the droids should:
A) Take the name of the waypoint stored in it, i.e. if the waypoint is named "Sam's Wholesale Widgets" then the droid should show that intead of a name (like a clapboard sign)
B) Not "say" anything unless clicked on for its waypoint, and then only speak to the person doing the clicking
This would prevent the massive spam lag, allow people to advertise using these droids without driving the rest of us nuts, and allow the Dev's to make these droids work regardless of where the owner is. Making it neccessary for the owner to be in the same local as the droid makes the barker module useless. Why buy a droid when you can macro /yells without buying anything?
A good idea, but it does have one flaw. I place down my droid and set it to barking, but Weaponsmith number 2 comes along "Well, geez, let me put my droid right HERE by accident!" right in front of/on top of mine. Suddenly my droid is covered/blocked by WS #2. Then we have droid placing wars and everyone goes back to spamming and running a droid.
Of course, the current system isn't a whole lot of help either!
Personally, I do use the "spam bot" as it's so nicknamed. Mine basically says "Stocked Vendors: Foods, Weapons, Tools, Meds, Droids, and Resourcse." I like how it hands out it's own Waypoint as well.
I hadn't realized it wasn't supposed to do this, but I leave mine running outside the Starport in Theed while I go home to Rori to craft. I know it works fine, since it's running right now as I'm sitting in front of my Rori Factory and just checked my wife's Spatial (she just went through) and it was spamming just fine.
When I've been looking for things, I've commonly used advertisers to find Waypoints, since usually anyone willing to set up a spam macro has at least a vendor with SOMETHING on it. I love the new droids as they just hand me a waypoint and don't leave paragraphs of spam in my Spatial chat.
