Thread: Droid Combat....
The caller unit has 10 charges, creating up to 10 battle droids total, can have 2 droids out at once. Callers are hand-crafted only: no factory crates, and you can only have one in your inventory (like the Doctor's Bag). When the caller unit is "readied", the control device in the datapad can be used to program these commands: attack, guard, and follow. There is no "store" command, and the droids have perma-death on incap. All droids get the same command, since there is no way to name them. All droids are CL5 to CL20 (depending on the crafting). All droids have a combat module and up to a level 3 armor module. The droids will normally attack in melee mode. But they will default to ranged attack if crafted using a crate of CL-appropriate carbines.

I think you vastly underestimate the power of current combat droids, they are actually a lot better then they used to be.
If you make Droids that are say levle 70, like CH pets, you may be surprised at how many people would want to use them.
It was my understanding that the max CL of any droid was 30.....

Yes, but they can still pack a punch when you use them to help you.
EG.
Level 58 Character
Level 16-24 Creature (Obviously the creature level helped the higher it was)
Level 30 Droid
Completed a Level 65 Mission ... took a while but finished it. If I hadnt had the droid out to help I and my pet would have been dead before finishing the mission.
Grouping with a droid gives it the defenses of the highest player in the group so best to only group if you're higher than it. But its a godsend for crafters who don't have a chance without them.
My droid always goes with me when I solo lairs as backup (due to xp loss) but a single command will allow it to help me if the need arises.

Yes, and we were talking in the hypothetical.
If Droids were given a max levle of 70 like CH pets, I think a lot more people would do that then do CH. Simply because a SBD is far more Star Warsy then a Kimo. In such a case, making the same controllers the people who crafted them, we would have a flood of DE's.
