Uh, yeah. Or haven't you been reading all the posts today? TH and the Devs very clearly already had a pre-conceived notion of what "combat droid" meant, and it was that overly powerful pre-conceived notion of Droideka-level combat droids that caused the problem.

Or have you suddenly started believing everything that Thunderheart says now?

Probably going to get uber-flamed for this but here goes anyways :

Honestly I think its a fair idea to have a Droid handler proffession- Simmilar to the CH proffession

I can only use about 1/3 of the BE pets i can make, and im a (2/3/2/3) CH too.
Doesnt seem fair that a nonch/nonDH would beable to use a droid with med armor
and uber hitpts/dmg...that could out do a CH pet with ease. we cant put med armor
on any of our pets (which i understand) but why would we even be making pets anymore?
or why whould someone work there Butt off for master CH? So I think having pre-reqs
to use the high lvl combat droids is a good idea.. (or we would just end up with the same
problems we had with non ch's running around with 10k ham pets...)

on the other side tho- I do feel bad for DE's, I know how frustrating it is to make
something super cool- and then know that i am not qualified to use it ...

balence is good- but it is to bad you maybe getting smacked with the same Nerf bat as us BE's... that is a shame

Your not alone, if they put in high level combat pets this is the only way to do it.

This is a link to a post I made.

Basically, I suggest that droid handlind be added to Squad Leader. To me, it makes sense, and my reasoning is behind that link. Thoughts?

Yes- having somesort of qualifications for using these high lvl droid are good- weather it be an SL thing or even a DE thing. the only trouble is it will be hard to draw the line (say all DE's can control any droid outthere, just as a given-since they create them) but how far into de would you have to be? No dabbling only- or ele it will be just like the CH nerf all over again.

this is why I guess they must do it this way- and I do understand on both sides, the need for some control over it.. and the fact that alot of DE's are supper pissed that they will beable to make them, but not control them off the bat. if they end up giving all DE's that power- wouldnt they have to share it with other pet crafting classes (ie BE?) uggh. its a mess. it always has been with 90% of crafting classes.

I wouldnt be supprized if they do give DE's some sort of boost on this (for DH skills) but that is also not fair (from my view) but thats just cause my profession gets left behind again. that I can handle.

I hear from so many DE's that there going to leave cause of this.. I felt the same way after we were nerfed 2x in less then 1 month.... and im talking major gameplay changes (like this proposed DH) But I (and a good amount of hard-core BE's) stayed... and we all saidfine, go, you really didnt want to be a crafter anyways then (please dont take it the wrong way) But it is the truth- It suck, but i dont think it will change... SOE does what they want and eather we all put up with it , and continue to pay or weget out the choice may be crappy- but thats the way it seems to go here

I'm not sure where the problem is DE is a crafting class just like BE's, Weaponsmiths, Armorsmiths and Archatects. Most folks in a crafting class forgo Combat to be the best crafters possible why should DE's be treated differntly. If very powerfull combat droids are wanted there should be a seperate profession to control them just like Ch handles creatures but does not create them a DH Would handle but not create the droids. The only thing i CH can do that is not metions with DH is tame pets. What if DH were given the ability to reprogram found droids like the droidekia found near nym's stronghold this would put the DH on par with CH. The things they should be focusing on with DE is Fixing what is broken and giving them the ability to make the stronger combat droids for use by the the DH's.

The devs have spent six months constantly restructuring, balancing& tweaking the pet/CH/CL systems. A pet is a pet, regardless if it looks like a rock beetle or a droideka. The issue becomes one of game design & balance. The devs werent happy with people having 3k HAM armoured tanks for no skill point investment (a free passport to high level content they called it). They werent happy with players having 10k HAM AR1 75% tanks by taking just 5 skill boxes in CH. A non CH pet nowadays means something with 1-2k ham, 100 dmg and a few low resists if you are lucky.

Any combat droid system must be subject to the same CL scale as CH, easiest way to do this is the introduction of a DH class. Adding certs toexisting skills just powers everyone up, droids become a requirement.A true DH skillgives the potential for the introduction of high level combat droids. No DH class means no useful (higher than 10CL)combat droids.

This post is dead on.

I can't say I agree. There's a huge difference between the Bio-engineer/Creature Handler relationship and the proposed DE/DH split. CH's can tame powerful (far more than level 10) pets on their own, from the wild without the help of a BE. DH's would be totally dependent on DEs unless you propose allowing them to build their own combat droids, further devaluing the DE class.

I also don't see the logic in the statement that no DH class means no Droids over level 10. Why can't there be droids over level 10 that DEs can control, but other players can't. That is, why can't the proposed DH class simply be merged with the existing DE class? Is the fear that DE becomes too powerful? It seems that this would be in parity with CH, who can obtain, train, and use their own powerful pets independent of any other class. Sure BEs can make them better, but they're aren't necessary to the process.

Why not make it how you made ranged/melee damage mitigation?

Let's say each skill tier into an elite profession goes up 1 lvl of droid use so that a basic prof can use droids CL 1-10 a novice elite prof can use CL 10-15, next lvl can use up to CL 20, and finally master can use CL 40-50. This way you never overlap and get massive amounts of skill, it's always only from your highest.

i disagree that a cert systemwouldnt work.Read my whole post as to why, or dont bother.

i dont think Boba Fett (Master BH) would have had a problem buying an army ofdroideka as bodyguards. But I do think he would have had trouble trying to get the PitRancor to do his bidding.

I think it should be a cert system intermixed with ALL the other elite classes (not only mixed in with DE - anyone should be able to use droids, but CL needs to be limited for newbie characters, so tie it to high skills in any/all elite combat professions).

There should also be massive overhead costs (maintenance) involved in the upkeep ofhigher CLdroids. They should be unhealable, and should instead require repair work (maintenance)done by a DE aftercombat, or a fee to repair at the garage, similar to vehicles. Higher CL = Higher HAM = Higher Maintenance cost. Use in combat should also drain the power out of the droid battery faster than not using it in combat. The point is, high CL droid useage can be limited in other ways than anunrealistic DH profession.

if you only allow DE to use high CL droids, then why is there a CH profession separate from BE? also, droids should be useable by anyone in the galaxy, as it takes no skill to "tame" a machine. Only a DE should be able to make and "train" (program), a droid.

You know that just about anyone can use a VCR or a TV, not only the engineers who design them.(anyone can use a droid)

You also know that performers at the carnival have special training in order to get those elephants to walk on tight ropes. (only CH can use a creature)

Droids and creatures are both pets, but they are not the same.

Why not have certifications based on number of SKILL POINTS SPENT, not any particular class. That way, everyone can use them, but it gates out low level characters from using high level droids. A Tailor/DE/Merchant with all skillpoints spent will be able to use the same droids as a BH/Medic with the same number of skillpoints spent.

For example, we get basic L10 droid certs at char creation.... and we get a bonus at 200/250, another at 150/250, etc.... of course we should be able to use the non-combat functions of all droids at any time.

That wouldn't work either. By that, I could take 3 basic classes and use up most of my skill points. So I could be an artisan, entertainer, and scout and have the same droid as a master pistoleer. That doesn't sound right. Being a master at any basic profession takes a day or 2 of work. To be a master at an elite profession takes alot more.

If you look at the xp required to master a basic profession, it equals to about1 of the first tier boxes in the elite professions. At least it does for combat classes. In fact, look at the 7 branches of weapons under marksman/brawler. The xp required to reach the 4th box in any of them, is about the same it takes to reach novice elite. For example, novice fencer requires 125,000 1-handed weapon xp. It takes 96,000 xp to reach the 1-handed IV in brawler. Any first tier weapon skill costs 175,000 xp. So for Master brawler, you'll need 394,000 xp. To get any first tier skill in any elite profession, you'll need 396k.

My point being, Master Brawler takes more skill points than a Fencer that is 1000 yet they both have the done the same amount of xp. If you compare it to Artisan, that is a class that can be grinded out in amatter of hours if you already have the resources. Only thing that takes time is the survey xp. Skill points aren't the same for everyone. Some skill points take a few xp, and other take alot of xp.

If droids were based strictly on xp, then you'll see alot of people burning skill points on novice basics (15 SP) and a few skills there to hit 0/250 skillpoints. Most people do this anyhow, seeing it's extremely easy to get any novice skills and it makes gameplay easier too while you work on the elite skills.

You can use 90 skill points by taking all 6 basic classes for 600 creds total, 500 creds if you want to consider your starting class.

Not quite. The problem with a DH profession is a lack of content. Unlike CH, there would be no training (unless new skills were required on higer droids just for irritation purposes) or taming trees.

The real answer is putting the Droid skills in a suitable existing profession with inadequate current content. Merchant fits perfectly, and is supported by the movies. Only problem is that current Merchants, at least those posting in the forum, havn't shown any interest.
