Thread: Droids Rebuilt and why we won't carry them

Are you people high? These droids offered in this publish do more for this profession than anything ever offered before AND YOU STILL AREN'T SATISFIED?!?

Yeah, I'm a bit miffed that droids can't increase player character skills but food can, but the harvest droid, planetary survey droid and the structure maintenance droids alone add so much utility that they can make our profession profitable for the first time ever.

I think some of you need to take the time to enjoy what you have now, not what you didn't get. This is just proof that no matter what you do, some people will never be satisfied...

Hmm...really. So tell me why most of the veteran DEs that I know of (both on the boards and in-game) are fighting hard just to keep droids in stock?

Seriously. If you can answer that question in a way that 'sells' me, I might buy what you are selling.

Right now, I consider it snake oil....and nothing more.

So what? BE's were selling crap kaadu's for millions of credits and were selling out when the mount patch came out. I refer you to the paragraph about the "honey-moon" effect, and how it applies to new features such as the new speeder and our new "useful" droids. The peopleI refer to as noobs are those who are selling the droids, and think they are selling out of them because they are soo great. I made my point concerning this fallacy in assessment of our new droid modules fairly clearly, and in 2 (maybe 3 weeks if you're lucky), you'll see how right I am. Go poll some BE's and find out how many low-level kaadu mounts they sell out at 100k+, much less millions

Well, I'm selling the droids (sold almost 400 since Tueday), so I guess I'm a noob then? Been a long time since anyone accused me of that...

When people come back to my vendor and buy duplicates of whatever droid they bought hours before because they liked them so much and wanted one for their spouse/friend/or just more for themselves, I know you are wrong.

Will the millions of dollars every day die down? Sure. But several of the new utility modules are selling well - so well that I only carry combat droids and so many people were bugging me I finally caved and stocked them.

Regardless, business is good for everyone else but you right now because you aren't trying.

Yes you are all going to make money....for a couple weeks or however longer (or shorter) it takes for the novelty to wear out. And that is always a good thing is it not? God knows DE's are due.The crux of the matter is the core value of the droids!! They do not replace skills, such as vehiclesdid by makingit possible for people to drop novice scout in order to get around on terrain in a timely fashion.Their popularity is based on novelty as a primary factor!! Why is this so hard to understand when anyone who has been playing since last summer has seen thishappen several times!!??

Each new feature I have seen posted about is accompanied by a "catch" that literally negates the benefit! I admittedly know nothing about the entertainer droid, and as far as 50k blast dmg, I'll have to see it to believe it. However I find it hard to believe that the devs would totally hook up entertainers and enter such a significant force to the GCW as a turret leveling kamikaze droid would be! Especially when they are sooo **edit** about balance and are in the midst of completly overhauling the GCW anyway!! Where is the common sense here? (of course it rarely has been with the devs so maybe they did do this:smileyvery-happy

Obviously I'm bringing up a concept beyond your faculty, and for this I apologize. I will cease making you present arguements that prove my point, as you plainly will never get it. My bad. Enjoy your new found revenues, as I sincerely stated, DE's are more than overdue for it. Unfortunately I am not a failing DE, just another fellow crafter who thought DE was finally a long-term viable profession now and was going to shift some skill pts into the final 2 trees. But I think I'll stick to what is making me successful, as revenues in weapons, vehicles, and electronics (which have shot way up since most DE's aren't master artisans) will far outlast this fad.

Even if this is true (which it's not), I see nothing wrong with this. A lot of my clients want to own a droid just to own a droid...cause it's 'Star Warsy'. So what?

And, as for the value...

The new droids require someone that can use them deftly to enhance what they already can do. They aren't ever going to out-and-out replace skills (which is what apparently qualifies as "worth" to some people here).

It's pretty simple. If you're against the new droids, don't make/sell them. Your competition will, I'm very sure, be very happy to take all that business of your hands.

If your clients can't find the utility and usefulness in what's been added, that is partly their issue and partly the issue of the DE that is selling to (and hopefully educating) the client.

And..................................I'm pretty sure you can't accuse me of a being a noob.

Take that as you will. I think some that call the new droids worthless need to wake up a bit before the droid train passes them by (but stops at their competitor's shops anyway). /shrug

Since I don't want to have to explain all this over and over, this is the last you'll see of me in this thread. I wish those that feel like the original poster luck.

........................................................................you're gonna need it.

You just aren't looking at the market potential. And again, ignoring combat droids. Go to a cantina in Theed or Coronet and see how many droids are out there.

Dude, I get your point. It's not a hard one to get. Seriously - go read up on my posts. You will see that you are arguing with someone who agrees in theory with most of what you are saying.

However, some of the modules are useful TO THE PEOPLE THEY WERE DESIGNED FOR.

None of these droids (aside from combat) were meant for ubiquitous use.

Example : Harvesting droid. I believe this gives a max of like 20-30% to a scouts harvest. How many times do you see organic resources going for 10, 20 or more CPU to doctors? This would mean for every 3-5 harvests you get a free harvest. To someone who's skinning gnorts for 3 hide to make camps it's not going to be worth big bucks - but to a doctor supplier or a doctor who harvests herbivore meat 100 units at a time on Dantooine? 120-130 units each time really adds up - they could pay for the droid the first day of use if they wanted to. This has by far been the most popular droid.

It wasn't meant to give non-scouts the ability to harvest, it was meant to enhance harvesting as-is. This is what we asked for when they made it clear droids could give no skills outright.

Another example : survey droids. We've already seen messages from people it's helped. Are the lazy "I don't wanna bother to do the survey mini-game, I want the game to play for me!" happy with them? No, but to someone who has flora harvesters on Yavin IV and lives on Lok (3 tickets EACH WAY), they are great to see if the resource has despawned or not without having to buy tons of tickets and spend a half hour waiting for flights. You can drop a survey droid, and go about filling factories/crafting and 45 minutes later you get your answer. I admit, this is too long - 15-20 mins should be the max. Regardless, FOR THE PEOPLE IT IS INTENDED FOR, it is working great.

Another : Entertainer droids. Cantina's are full of them. They really are very neat looking. I hope some stat bonuses are added, but many entertainers have already made them part of their daily play. The effects are varied and visually stunning - and since batteries need to be replaced they will also be able to mark entertainers who are totally afk for hours on end with those who are actually playing.

Yes, some of them suck - most people have never even seen a stim A, no one uses traps in the first place, so a droid with them isn't going to fly off the shelf.

But enough of them don't suck that people are thanking us for them.

It's a shame you won't give people the chance to thank you, but for that to happen you at least need to give the patch a shot.

You haven't mentioned combat droids once - have you seen the stats?? Probots with 3.2K HAM and 190dmg, R3's with 4.5K HAM and 170dmg, and LE's with almost 6K HAM???

Regardless, if you see this or not, if you were as experienced in SWG as you proclaim you would have done what the rest of us have done - strike while the iron IS hot.

In a couple of weeks when it does die down, we'll have millions and millions of credits to show for it, and most of us will be set for the rest of our "lives".

I guess you can come back to this thread then and say, "TOLD YA"...I bet that will make you feel better when we are all flying around in our brand new expensive space ships and doing whatever we please because we were the feature of these two patches and we made the best of it.

LOL. No, it's quite clear.

You are saying that these droids don't have long term value because they are useless.

I am getting repeat visitors who have gone out, USED THE DROIDS, liked what the droids did so much they came back for more.

If the droids weren't useful, they wouldn't return to buy more for themselves and friends after trying them out.

I'm sorry it is you who does not get such a simple concept.

the most critical change to droids

with this we do have a viable product the other mods are the icing on the cake. if they add a few more mods for some other combat profs we will have products helping every profession in the game....for those that dont want to take advantage of the oportunity or think it is in vain, go sell something else.

WELL SAID !!! Some people just dont get it they are too quick to condemn things and can only see whats held right up in front of there noses !

like for example:

He mentions Creature Havestors well you thought about trying this? When you killed your target you already have it targeted no? So then use a hot key tell the droid to harvest while your then busy killing your next target and so on it works out A LOT faster doing this oh plus the Harvest Bonus you also receive on top of all that and OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO BE A SCOUT OMG what do you want Sony to make a pizza delivery Droid for you as well LMAO !!!

and lets not forget that when you kill something that you are targeting you combate que DUMPS therefor the FIRST action that is taken will be the harvest of the Droid.
