Wonderful. I am completely jealous that I didn't write it myself.

You know, I wrote this a good while back, and even as I read it now it seems pretty relevant. There were some fixes and changes made since I left, but what saddens me most is that I haven't used droids muchsince my departure from the DE profession.

I still lurk around here and silently root for you guys. I fervently hope that droids will become more relevant soon, especially with the new starships right around the corner.

And thank you for the compliments.

Hey TK, any chance this could get posted to the Correspondent boards so that the Devs can see it? Not like they have alot of time between coddling Jedi and nerfing Merchants, but, hey, one can hope eh?

It might be fun...but I don't see how it would really help.

Nice story. Worked hard to get MDE, got it the other day and now realise making the good, quality droids takes so many 'factory' parts its just to much of a chore. But apprently every ship in JTL will need droids so I'm holding out for that

Droids have always had certain groups that tended to require thier services more than others. I dunno what you've done since your retirement but I've never ever been without 5 differently configured droids. And none of them have ever been single/zero module units (save for a few basic probots in the droid perma-death period) and I am excedingly proud to say I have never owned an MSE. I have owned dozens, and boughthundreds (for other people)of droids in my time, no two alike. Granted most of my droids have been R3 units due to thier flexibility, I have also owned protocol droids, probots, and BLLs of many different configurations. I'd like to own more droid types such as power droids and tredwells but unfortunately due to thier limited module capacity I've been unable to "work them in". Same goes for the lower R units. Started out with a protocol, probot, and 3 R3's and have had as many as 4R3's along with a BLL, currently in my data pad are 2 BLL's a probot and 2 R3's but I'm trading those R3's (my entertainer droids) for 1 R3 and another probot (probots make coooooooooool FX droids ). Mycurrent loadout is:

  • Dancer FX droid - Probot with item storage, foam, confetti, mind bloom, electric fog

  • Music FX droid - R3 with item storage, foam, confetti, jawa, avian

  • Combat droid - Probot with item storage, 1 combat module, 3 auto heal modules

  • Crafting droid (for instruments) - BLL with item storage, WDE station, data storage

  • Medic droid - BLL with item storage, medic module, structure maint module.

I got item storage in every droid I own, thats rule #1 since 5 droids x 10 items each = backpack in my data pad, and since you guys normally do "full loadout droids" like all 6 FX modules or all harveseting, and rarely include item storage except in a few select crafting/medic modules I pretty much have to special order every droid I have (I've never had a DE tell me "oh, I have one of those on my vendor" ).

My most used droid is easily my dance FX droid (formerly a R3, now a probot), however each of the other 4 droids gets used regularly. I craft instruments on an almost daily basis for people as they level up musician. Small gigs such as weddings or other player events gets my Music FX droid into more use. My medic droid also sees almost daily use since I have a guild hall I use to store money in the maint pool, I use the medic droid's structure maint module to deposit tips for me automatically on a daily basis. I used to have a combat R3 unit with 4 combat modules 1 heal and item but I figured a probot with a faster attack speed and 1 combat module would do the same damage just have a 3x higher heal rate anyway that droid normally gets the least use but DAMN am I glad I have it when I need it.

If Icould store 10 droids would...

Entertainers need droids, scouts need droids, crafters need droids, medics need droids, but for a majority of the combat oriented template stacking professions, save for a few modules, yes droids are of limited value, but no matter what the developers do short of giving non "DH" controled SBD's is going to make droids attractive to this segment of the gaming population, they just wanna kill things.

(on a side note pure entertainers are probably the most in need/want of your services, and the least able to pay for them in most cases... kinda sux )

Who that scares even me. Do you know if you redeed a structurethat is on your droids list you can possibly break the whole droid. Considering the price of most BLLs, I would look at the post from Straker/Drashk to see how to fix the removed structure. Found it
