Thread: FYI: Probot nerf
If you want a good laugh (and want to get angrier to boot), read the CH forum. The people in there are b1tching like stuck pigs. "Oh my God, we are SO useless! We are SO broken! Why are you hurting us when most of us don't have rancors and aren't abusing things!"
It's ironic, considering that they are 3x strength of what was that ? A master something? We are stuck with no completely useable droids (something about every one is bugged or nerfed), the probot is now so weak if I sneezed on one it would probably keel over. Some guy was talking about no perma death, just reduce stats like our chars when they die and then posted something to the effect of "Oh, I think they did this. My creature had 8k health and it now has 4k" (after a death or incap). Four FREAKING thousand health... and we don't even get to keep **edit** armor. This is a JOKE!

I take it back.. I reread the beginning of the thread and holocron states that no change has been made to what 50% of health. Yup. That guy still has a creature with 8k health.
It's sad what this game has become. Sony has screwed the pooch.
Holo, if the reason for this is because people know how to use exploits to kill anything in the game, then fix the exploits, don't nerf the probot.
You're like the jedi of nerfs, wielding your nerfbat like a lightsaber, swinging it wildly at everyone and everything that makes it possible for decent progress to be made in this game.
Please take the time to address problems properly and logically.
Put down the nerf bat and fix what's broken correctly.
Stop smashingthe living daylights out of thousands of botsthat a few people are abusing, but most people use normally. You're simultaneously driving hundreds of already angry droid engineers out of business, and turning would-be droid engineers like myself away from the profession.
WellI have been doing the math andI can no longer financial stay in business due to the sudden STOP to droid sales. Not counting th 20 - 30 sub and sub-sub components to make the probot, all the different types of resources hopping planets just to find some extrusive ore. Now I am faced with closing my doors. I can't afford (harvestor, vendor, house and airfare wise) to maintain the Extremely fun pace i was having... I used to be so busy i couldn't keep up with the demands and was on the edge of my seat trying to click the resrouces into the craft tool faster so I could get the orders finished and dropped onto my vendor. I had my factory running at all times (except when it would SOMEHOW stop working due to some bug that a CSR said was a known bug) Ahhh the insanity was extremely fun. Now I am just stuck to hold the last bit of the creditsI earned to sit at the local cantina and tell the bartender my story whileI drink my fortune away................... If only I had invested into the weapon market they are so much more stable.... My dad tried to warm me, but no I had a passion for droids. I had to make something that could talk back to me or treat me like a god. But now as usual I sadly come to the realization that Dad was right again, as he would always say, "Droids are a nice thing son, but they will never do the job like a good rifle."
Welp, off to the cantina........................
The funny thing is nearly all the creature handlers that I know have three bio-engineered rancors that are all running around with 10k HAM and doing 650 damage. I just think it's funny how the weakest professions always get picked on first if players find a way to bypass sloppy code and poor design by the developers. I AM for reducing the power of the probots (like, if they reach 0 condition or all their HAM goes away, they are destroyed). That helps the market.
But this? This just ruins droid engineers. People have commented that I am one of the most respected engineers on Starsider and, guess what, I have no orders anymore. None. The occassional R2 that I sell barely covers the factory and resource costs. And the shop costs. And other costs.
OK let's cut through the BS and see the picture from the 20,000-foot view. Fact: SWG is a joint venture of Sony and LucasArts. Fact: Everquest is just Sony, no other company. Fact: Lots of people left Everquest to come to SWG. Hypothesis: If SoE can piss off enough people to leave SWG and go back to EQ, then they don't have to split the profits with LucasArts.
I don't know, maybe that's a bit harsh, but I'm severely upset with the probot nerf. YES they needed to be nerfed. You shouldn't be able to send in a probot and clear an entire herd of red-con mobs and have the probot come back unscathed. But the severity of this nerf is just beyond comprehension. As many others have already said, there is no reason to become a droid engineer now. If I have to sell probots for 3-5K, I could make more money just running missions.
I've already turned in my soldering iron in favor of a mason's trowel. I'm taking up architecture. I wonder how bad they could nerf a house?
I played EQ for 4 years. I know how badly SoE hates people who solo. You would think soloers were responsible for AIDS, bubonic plague, and the holocaust, the way they kept nerfing druids, magicians, and necros. If this is just the first step in a campaign to eradicate soloers from SWG, by removing people's built-in tanks, then IMHO it's time to give up MMORPGs and go back to games like Diablo and NeverWinter Nights.
If there was a way to get back my Crafting Exp, I would drop this profession so fast, my mouse would catch on fire.
So, I will just do other stuff in game and continue to laugh at the woefully bad work done by SOE on this profession. For a game with such potential, there are some inexecusable lapses and flat out idiot mistakes.
This is yet another example of how poor our developers really are. And I dont mean from a technical standpoint. They have absolutely NO CREATIVITY!Instead of coming up with a creative solution that might actually *gasp* benefit someone they just nerf away.
I purchased one droid, a mouse droid. It is the most useless thing EVER! I asked the DE i bought it from "what is it used for?" He said storage. Ok, cool. I can use more storage. This droid has a purpose. I bought one, only to find out the hard way that droid inventory is bugged. I ahevnt purchased any otehr droids because I don't see a use for one. Probot was the one exception. Well, so much for that...
/rant
Ok, now I actually have an idea, not just a rant.
Add a Droid Usage Exp. I don't mean a DE getting XP from others using their droids, but a Droid user getting XP for using a droid. At first you only can use weak droids (mouse?) , but as your Droid Use XP goes up you can use more powerful (and useful? Still waiting for that!) droids. I don't think this skill should be tied to a profession, just a general skill available to all professions. This combined with a SMALL Probot nerf should help balance things. Plus you would create a market for low-level droids which does not exist now. Want a Probot? You have to start with a mouse droid.
Thanks, nowI wont be able tocomplete a single BH mission on my own. Let alone get to Bounty Hunter!
The only way for me to get to scout was for me to get help from my 40,000 credit probot. No one shares harvests in large groups, so the only way to do it was to take on low end stuff with the probot for hours on end. THat was the only way I could harvest.
Here's how I see it. Hundreds of people who didn't want to do the lamely godlike CH profession needed help with the tremendously hard, underpaid mission system, so they used that poorly thought out mission system and saved 40k for a probot. Now I have one, and it's useless! Two "/con: tough" thugs killed it! Here's my point, unless you want to reimburse me 70% (due to your nerf) of what I paid for the droid, I'm going to think long and hard on cancelling this fiasco of a GAME. I did NOT pay 15 bucks a month to get nerfed this massively. If you'venerfed Droid Engineers this much, you better have done the same to Creature Handlers.
On another note, you guys said you wanted to stick to continuity as much as possible. You've done a good job not having everyone run around as Jedi. But last I checked, "Courtship of Princess Leia" pointed out that Rancors are only bred and trained by the Dathomir witches. But funny thing! I saw a minimum of 10 creature handlers in Bestine, Tatooine with 1 to 3 Rancors each!Following continuity eh?
I am absolutely appalled that this is happening in a released game...a game I payed top price for, and will continue to be charged for if I continue to play. Im sorry...but issues like these should have come out in the beta test. If these issues are apparent a month after release there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn't have been aparent during the balancing or open beta test, not to mention the other blatant bugs found in this and other classes.
Moreover, I am dishartened by the way SOE has handled the situation. Of course there would be outrage to making something useful useless, especially in a classthat isfull of bugs and has a lack of content. SOE is worried that with a probot, people are too powerful...perhaps a wiser solution would be to change the environment not the people. Make the hardest foes harder, dont make something useful...useless. It would be just as easy to beef up a few foes as it is to nerf a droid. That wouldn't create outrage like nerfing the probots has done.
I expect problems like this to arise during a beta test (you get what you pay for), but here I payed for a complete game and get anoying nerfs that frustrate me and make the game unfun and unplayable. Since I had always planned on being a droid engineer, and dont really desire to be anything else, this nerf makes the game unplayable...not to mention my unmet reasonable expectations ofcomplete game, not promises of fixes in a month or two.
Has anyone thought of complaining to lucasarts about this game not staying true to the SW universe? I mean we are in a world now where there is no such thing as a useful droid. There is no GCW since the faction pet nerf. This game shouldn't even have the star wars label affixed to it. I mean C-3PO is a main character in ALL of the release SW movies, yet at this point in time there aren't any useful droids. Take a look at any of the movies etc. and count up the number of droids. This game is being ruined. It's being ruined because the devs have a policy of nerfing things about 5x more than they need to be. I mean sure, the datapad heal on droids was lame, and I can even see permadeath, but they as always go way too far in nerfing everything about the bot. Had they just got rid of the datapad heal exploit and made the droids permadeath everything would have been fine. Instead just like everything else, the devs simply go way to far. Newsflash, we are all playing on test servers. These kind of changes should be checked and tweaked on test servers before going live. As it is now we can just add another name to the list of droids that are absolutely useless.
This game is so off-balance. I mean it is literally impossible to do a bounty hunting mission unless your in a group now. For almost everyone who hasn't focused on combat it is impossible to even go too far out of the cities. They should have made the probot take lots more resources which would have upped the price considerably. That an dthe removal of the datapad healing and permadeath would have actually HELPED de's along with removing your exploit problems.

They're not worthless yet.
They're still a fighting pet any class, level, whatever can use.
People will still want to buy them.
There is nothing you can really compare them to, even with the nerf. They're just not as powerful now.
*shrugs*

No I believe they are worthless..pretty much..Mine dies on just about anything I set it on..unless its something I can kill myself in one shot. Pointless.
