An idea worth considering.

Assuming you want the removal of the DH profession idea and Droid Certifications is a big combat imbalance, adding a Droid Tree to the DE profession might be an option. It would probably work more like a "sprinkling" of Droid/Pet possibilities throughout the profession though. Otherwise you get a lopsided skill advancement.

How do you guys feel about something like this?

wait, wait, wait.... What you just said has absolutely nothing to do with what the original poster said. He was talking about the droid "itself" leveling. You're talking about adding a DH tree into the DE profession (Yet another thing that DEs have explictly stated they do not want). Arg.... Did you even read his post?!? This is exactly how these miscommunications occur.

I personally think the originalposter has an original, great idea. What youjust posted is nothing of the sort. It's ununique, unimaginitive, and generally not desirable by the DE communitiy.

Certs for combat droids would work, but only as horizontal, optional skill boxes that appear at certain elite levels of otherexisting professions, requiring the expenditure of skill points.

Still a fan of this idea. The pet tree thing sounds overly complicated.

Better, but I don't see how this is any different from what we originally wanted - DEs using all droids they can make.

This does give option for everyone to use the droids though. But the catch is people must use their droids to make them powerful. So whether you are a Commando or Entertainer, you each get an equalled droid. It is up to You to take it outfor it tobecome a true warrior.

Oh, so you mean the Droid gains combat experience, and can advance along its own skill tree and get more powerful (but a DE has to do the training/enhancing). Interesting idea.

Exactly. That would keep DE in their profession, a good DE economy, plus add to allowing everyone able to use any droid they want, but keeping the droid's ability to only how much it is used.

Problem: I time and experience to train a droid, then hand it to a new player. New player goes off and solos Rancors.

Solution?

The pet tree isnt that complicated. I just explained it in detail. Basically, it would allow the droid to level and gain xp for itself by being used. After certain amounts of xp are gained, it can learn new things or learn how to use new weapon attachments.

A new player would not be able to afford such a complex droid.

Don't make droids be able to solo a rancor. Why do people always have to assume extremes? Currently we have a droid that isn't worth throwing at meatlumps. TH, the devs, and apparently you assume we want a droid that can "solo rancors." Don't you think there is a CL somewhere in between?

I like this Idea as well.

It would bring a bit more to us Droid Engineers than just creating the droid.

I myself when i first heard of SWG,I wanted to be a DE, that not only makes droids for other players, but "upgrades"them as well. It would be nice to see if it happens. I would much rather have this than any Droid Handler profession anyday.

p.s. that would not do the new player any good because his CDEF would not be getting enough damage done to make really ANY good XP for himself. The droid would be sucking it all up.

NO. this is the same thing as a DH. it would be taking droids from everyone in the game and giving them to one class. Droids should permate every aspect of the game. They should be as plentiful as Vehicles, blasters, and Aliens.

To make the product of a crafting class only useable by that class is counter productive to the very design of this game: Profession Interdependance.

It also makes as much sence as certing weaponsmiths with all thier products.

Let whatever system used to cert droids stand outside any form of profession specifics. It must be a general all access system. Even if it ends up just being a tree all on it's own, a 5th tree accessable to all who pay the points for it.

Droids are a Major part of Star Wars. They should be availible equally to All.

How is this involved in the 'skill points' argument the devs have proposed? Im just trying to see how this will help. My droid gaining experience seems more like how the CH profession should be handled then how my killbot 2000 should be.

Unfortunately that's not what TH just agreed to (or at least stated as a possiblity). He just agreed to adding "sprinklings" of DH into the DE trees. (Essentially making DE a combat profession)
