I like the idea. I have said before, if droids are going to be useful, we have to take them in a new direction. Allowing them to preform unskilled tasks is the best role available. An in-game calculator is a perfect example of this.

I think it is marketable as it would be useful.

Interesting idea, but I just can't see it being marketable as a droid moudle. I see it being a regular game function if anything.

Thats WAY too many checkers to give for free. Havent you heard all your life math is power? my god man, a calculator, as a game function?

no, this will never do

It is something that should be easy to implement and dosn't step on anybodies toes. I see no harm in having it and it is something that could be handy for our crafter type folks. Given how many slots things like r3 advanced have no real reason not to add in some fun lil specality modules like this.

Ok, TK421, nice idea. I do this sort of math in my head, but then again I have personal problems.

Service Calculator Module:

1) 1 module slot, either contains 10 storage slots or must be used in conjunction with Storage Module(s).

2) Store power units in the storage slots.

3) Service Calculator Module can hold up to 100,000cr OR can transfer credits from your character.

4) Service Calculator droid is "cut loose" on a factory or harvester Target with a command, which brings up...

5) GUI or text interface to set time you wish to run the target for.

6) Droid with Service Calculator Module adds required maintenance credits and power units to obtain desired duration.

The second idea floated, for the factories:

Factory Calculator Module:

1) 1 module slot, has 1 schematic (Data)slot (hint: copy & paste harvester schematic slot code)and contains 10 storage slots or must be used in conjunction with Storage and Data modules.

2) Store the resources for a schematic in the storage area, load the schematic into the droid.

3) As above, Target the factory and "cut loose" with a command to the Droid.

4) Gui or text interface asks how many of "item x" you wish to make.

5) Droid with Factory Calculator Module loads as many items as needed to complete the requested # of items, and starts up the factory.

^ Only problem with the Factory Calculator is that you'll never get all the required crates into one droid. Aside from making the crate item limit 1,000 I don't see a way to implement this as easily.

I am sorry, but I don't really like the idea of a calculator droid. However, I do like the idea of having calculators and other tools at my disposal while in-game. I currentlyuse a spreadsheet with lots of different pages to manage and orchestrate my droid business. I would love to be able to do all of these on one computer so that I could play on my own computer instead of having to sit in my husbands pokey little office using two. Anyways, here is the list of tools/calculators I use every day...

Resources

A complete list of resources available on my home planet from which I then use to update swgcraft. My list includes the resource type, name, start date, age, all attributes and finally a set of columns to show combined attributes specific to my profession. This page is updated twice per day.

Prices

A list of my main competitors and the price they charge for droids and droid components.

Factory

A tool that allows me to enter the total number of units I require and see how much of each resource and component I need. The page has columns that show me how much of a particular stock I have so I know if I need to harvest/buy/craft a certain item for the factory run.

Stock (Resources)

A list of all my resources, their attributes and quantity. This list also includes the same combined attributes as the resources page so that I know at a glance which is best for a particular combine.

Stock (Components)

A list of all my components and droid modules. There are boxes for each component type so that I can keep track of identical parts required for factory runs.

Sales

A list of every sale since I became a master droid engineer. This list includes both custom orders and vendor sales and consists of the persons name, where they purchased, the date, the type of droid, a list of modules included within the droid, the price, their discount and additional notes. Other boxes on the same page show my customers and the amount they have spent with me, and there is a list of each droid type showing the quantity sold and revenue accumulated.

Cash

A list of every debit or credit transaction against my cash book. This list includes the date of the transaction, category, description, credit, debit and balance. Other boxes show my categorised income and outgoings so I can see how much maintenance costs are against droid sales.

Vendor

A full list of droids currently available on my vendor with type, name, quantity, rate and total. Each time I receive a sales gmail, I update the vendor list to see what I need to restock. A box is also available showing the total of each type of droid.

Structures

A tool to help me work out the maintenance and power cost for my harvesters, houses, factories and vendors. Each type has a box to show the maintenance/power cost per hour and day. I simply add the number of days I want against the type of structure and the pool current available, the tool then tells me how much of each I need for the number of days required.

Harvester

A tool to help me work out the total cost of harvesting resources. I type in the size of harvesters I am using, the concentration of resource and it tells me how much I expect to harvest per hour day and week.

Builder

This is not part of the spreadsheet, but is also a tool that I use on a daily basis. I use the droid builder utility on my website to configure and price custom orders.

Kindest regards,

Karlie Okota.

I'd go for the /calculator command. I can only guess that any extra functionality that would make it worth as a module might to be too much to ask from the DEVs.

At the moment, if i have to calculate a larger Order (not that i have many of those) i transfer the information onto the /notepad and then edit the file from windows with the calc besides it.

Oh and as a side note: Only some more App XP and i'm Master DE! Took me about two month, even a bit more as i never was a fan of grinding and also not rich enough for it. I guess that i sticked to it although i followed this forum all the time makes me masochist enough to stay MDE for quite a while...

A Installation Service Calculator module:

The basic premise here is that the installed module would give a radial menu, available at ANY time (whether you have installations dropped or not).

There would be various selections for the different types of installations (houses, harvesters, etc.) that one could select.

Then, you'd also be able to input specific numbers (BER, energy, maintenance monies, etc.). This would be a tailored calculator that would basically be in-game to allow one to more easily figure whatever kind of number crunching they want when getting ready to do installation 'runs'.

Hey, while we are at it...I think the calculator needs to have a conversion function. You input Talusian Wheat (straw), and it spits out credits (gold). Think the devs will go for it?

Personally, I'd prefer a different approach... One that wouldnt involve droids much at all *ducks*

Since harvesters are commonly used by everyone... why not suggest to the architect community that they request a set of new "modules" for their profession...

Examples:

A transceiver arraythat "could", as an option,be built into the top-end harvesters

A transceiver arraythat "could", as an option, be built into a house

The two transceivers could dialog with each other, permitting the owner to check the status of his harvesters from home...

By extension... THEN it might be possible to build a transceiver array to add to a droid that could contact the owner's home for the same checkswhile out in the field.

Total loss of annual revenue (SOE): ~$715US to ~$900US
- Bad press: Priceless
Should Sony and Lucas Arts be worried? (15000 users * 5 accts = ~$13MIL in potential lost gross annual revenue) If I were the CEO for either LA or SOE, I would certainly be worried.
