Thread: Did we ever get a coherent answer re: Droid Armor?

Incidentally, one thing that I haven't seen anyone mention is that a non-CH can only have like, what? 2 pets total? But everyone can have 5 droids, SO, if someone is working up the marksman tree or the LLC tree of BH, 7 tanks are better than, especially now that the camp requirements are being lifted. Is your probot starting to get worn down and you're inthe wilderness? No big deal any more, just store him, call the next one and 15 seconds later you're back in the parade.
chrisCompletely agree on that one - and it's the main reason I don't see droid repair being a big market either.Audio
I'm not sure that I follow you there. Are droids going to repair themselves in your datapad after Pub 7? If they do, then yeah, I couldn't see a large market for the repair kits as a lot of serious combatants would be fully loaded with droid tanks they could run though one after the other rather than repair them. To be honest, I've never used a droid in combat or sold a droid to be used for fighting, so I'm not clear on how droid healing currently works.

White (damage) heals over time, Black (wounds) do not.
Right now there is NO way to speed up the white healing, black is repaired by droids with repair modules (red and green) and blue is healed by batteries.
That's why, in one way, being able to repair damage with stimpacks is a great thing - we have asked for it for a long time.
However, this "fix" comes with a "nerf" - droids are going to need these stims A LOT. With the max HAM on a Probot 1100 on TC as of last report - that's a couple of good swipes from a decent upper-low level MOB.
So it is advantageous to just switch out one of five droids for a healed one, rinse, repeat.
Because they have slowed the rate at which HAM regenerates this won't last for long - but then again, the people that use Probots for low-level things like this likely aren't using one for long periods of time either.
This is all besides the point, though.
They will no longer be tanks and no longer be able to hold service modules - the two reasons people had for buying Probots are gone, and most of them are going to be pretty upset that their current droids are now literally tin cans (once the retroactive armor nerf happens).
The big question is : with the relatively high cost of constructing even mid-level droid stims, and the fact that the player now has to "babysit" their Probot, will people think it's worth it for a CL-10 pet?

I think the question is "Does anyone use CL10 pets period?" I have a bio-engineered kwi and a probot. The kwi has never seen combat and the probot has fought maybe twice.
I think that's the way it is for just about most people who have any combat skills at all. I don't even take my PRENERF out very often.
However, we did have a small following of customers who enjoyed it for the limited tank it could be used for - which has now vanished. ![]()

You've been missing out then. The probot was an awesome tank. I used it all the time to either keep my non-armored butt from taking damage to holding creatures while me and my companions could take care of the rest. I remember one time our droids saved us during act 3. The npcs in the final mission were all red to us and incapped all of us. The 3 droids we had out kept thier attention, keeping them from dbing us, until we were able to get back up and reengage. That was the moment I was most proud of my probot. There was one time even on Endor when we got jumped by some kind of spider(before vehicles) and they were slicing through us like a hot vibroknife through butter. My probot got the one off me and kept 2 of them busy long enough for me to run out of range. No, it didn't last much longer than that but it exceeded my expectations for an 810 HAM droid on Endor.
Same for me as soon as you have some combat skills the PRENERF droid stays in storage, same for low end pets...

I do, since so many of my skillpoints are used up in crafting/merchant thatLv10 petsare white to me. If I need to clear agressive spawn in front of a harvester (or my house) it is the only way I have a chance.
The new probot actually looks more useful to me than the old one as a bodyguard. With 200 or so DPS, and my limited automatic fire, most of the stuff that attacks me while working on a harvester will go down without any attention on my part. I will be able to just put on the armour and ignore it.

I've done some reading on this on the Corr. boardsand I understand much better what he was saying.

I can't figure it out, and TH's "well, droid armor has always decayed" dribble was, as you know, unhelpful.
TK?
Anyone?
Basically, from what I can glean, Droid armor worked differently (pre-change)than all other armor. That's now be 'unified' into the current system, such that all armor is now the same.
I think what TH meant with 'always decayed' had more to do with the way damage was 'soaked up' (taken) in the longer term. With the older (current on Live) system, the armor would start taking a set amount of damage and eventually become useless.
With the new system will soak up the same level of damage basically forever, whereas (now) you get a finite amount that goes down and down and down until it's effectively not even running.
Does that make sense? I'll try to work up something that explains this better. The armor 'thing' makes sense to me much more now and, keep in mind, this will all be affected by ongoing HAM/combat balancing and changes.

Respectfully,
That makes some sense TK (Thank You!), but it causes more questions for me...
(1) Ok, so we are losing the medium armor rating...is the effectiveness % exactly the same as before? People have been reporting nerfed effectiveness... Are you saying the reason people have been reporting reduced effectiveness %'s is that they are using used droids (where the armor has been damaged)?
(2) If droid armor is ruined over time like normal armor, I assume that it will work such that it can be repaired and will reduce in maximum condition with each repair...Is that correct? If so that is a VERY good thing, as it means that combat droids wear out, correct?

The droid armor currently on Test is max 20% resists, AR0.

Daker, you're backwards on this. The armor was supposed to wear out since beta. They apparently pulled the degradation of the armor (or it plain didn't work), and we basically had droid armor that was extremely more effective than it was supposed to be. Hence the "adjustment" now to AR0, 20% resists.

Yea, I forget what thread it was in. Basically all droids are loosing thier AR rating and going straight resists in trade for higher HAM. As is it's a pretty crappy exchange.
