I have a theory on the surge of new DE's lately. Either:
1. They're hologrinding or
2. They're grinding for the supposed Droid Invasion that isn't gonna happen. Remember, a lot of non-DE's still don't know that all these new Combat Droids aren't happening. I still get requests for Combat Droids just to tell them nope, not gonna happen anytime soon. Either they see DE as a money-making opportunity soon or they're looking to go for "Droid Handler". As we know neither is gonna happen in the near future.
Actually, I took up DE a month ago. I'd never been an artisan before and just running around and killing things ad nauseum had lost its appeal. I looked at my possibilities and droid engineer seemed like the coolest option for a few reasons. First, droids are cool. Second, there aren't a gazillion droid engineers running around. Third, droids aren't part of the insanity of people craving uberness... by that I mean that there are no krayted probots or legendary MSE droids. So, DE is a bit esoteric and I might have some peace from the madness. Fourth, it is pretty obvious to everyone that droid engineer is one of (if not the most) neglected professions in the game. I felt that it was inevitable that it would get attention soon, making it fresh and relevant. For a time, it seemed that this was a great hunch, as I heard talk of a profession that was being "reiterated" and infused with purpose. Unfortunately, droid engineers are being held to a higher standard than other professions regarding balance, so it seems that change will be longer in coming and much, much less significant than was earlier announced.
I can't sell many droids anyway, since the resources required to make most of the components that make droids really marketable aren't on Valcyn... haven't been on Valcyn in ages... and quite possibly won't be on Valcyn for a long time either. I also have astronomical critical failure rates compared to friends in other professions or on other servers. But, I still like this profession and I'm going to try to stick it out for the long haul. I want to be a known person with a role to play in my community... yes, role playing. I didn't want to be just another of the many faceless grinding gunslingers who fill the galaxy. I hope droid engineer will eventually let me do that.

Potential: capable of being but not yet in existence.
It's obvious that the DE profession hasn't gotten some good lovin', if any, since the release date. The developers finally listened to you guys and plan to make a comebackin probably one of the most universal segments in Star Wars, droids and their capabilities. It's not yet existent, but with the numerous developer posts recently with the "Droid Invasion", it's hard to deny that this profession will show potential. The problem is that the shortened DE community is very closed minded from being SO patient for the last 8-9 months of silence that they can't show hope because they've had the feeling shot down so many times. Yes, that is a long time, and the droid engineer profession is a late bloomer.
Basically to sum up this bunch of gibberish to you guys is: thedevelopers havehinted toMUCH potential within the last month for the droid engineer.

"hinted"...
Exactly. We've been told so many times by so many red names that we were "priority no. 1" or "next on the list", and this profession is still as broke (or even more so) than it was in Beta.
To quote JustG: "Talk is cheap."

are you on crack?
They have finished combat droids they cant put in the game
They are adding utility droids, while meanwhile TH is saying droids cant be useful, should be interesting what happens.
They DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO with our profession, their "plan" has been nixxed by the community, and they're scratching their heads.
and we have much potential?
Well, another DE walks away from the profession. I for one started this character intent on building droids...and I do. No matter what happens with this profession, I'm not quitting. As long as the big boys drop out, I see more business. And business is good. SInce I play mostly for the social aspect, they could do nothing with DE and I'd be fine...selling the same old droids to keep the masses supplied and still have fun hangin' with my friends.
If you feel you have to leave, I wish you well in your next profession. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Have fun and when YOU need a droid...let me know ![]()
thanks for the suppor man. Mad props to the DE community.

Btw, for all the kiddies who one-star people like Sodan and Rho, you really need to get a life. They offer more constructive ideas than just about everyone here. So if you can't offer anything more than a simple "rating", then please don't offer anything at all. By one-starring the verterans here all you do is make yourself look that much more stupid. As for me you can one-star me. I know I'm an a$$hole and have never done anything to shake that image. But, I will always say the things others won't say.
Don't try to mussle in on my territory pal.
