Thread: Is no one Excited about The new combat droids?

I get very excited about combat droids. That's why I come over and check the DE forums once in awhile, to see what is brewing.

For a long time, I've wanted to have some droids tofight alongside me(a la CH), since I see CH's really mopping up out there. But, Ihave no desire to tame, train and play around with creatures. I would, however, like to have combat droids under my command, and it seems to fit the SW universe well.

Unfortunately, it is becoming apparent from my recent reading that hopes will be dashed. I'll get some weak droids I can keep in my datapad, along with my neglected nerfed probot, and I'll continue to seek out CH's to group with so I can have higher level hunts and complete missions that have some excitement to offer.

A Droid Commander profession sounded great to me. When I heard about it, I knew I wouldpick it up the day it came out. Hopefully, at the very least, I will be able to get some decent combat droids to help me. Please don't make me have to be a CH.

I hope the devs dump the whole idea of combat droids anyway. That wasn't their role in the Star Wars universe at this time anyway.

IMHO, the one thing we DE's desperately want above all: Value in our work. Make our droids useful for all professions in areas that cannot be addressed by anything else (mobile harvesters, target-seeking MSE droid bombs, etc.). Give us the ability to make a droid that is useful to everyone, and versatility to be creative!

So the idea of Publish 8 introducing a lot of new utility droids sounds like a great idea. It's a step in the right direction. Fix the DE class first, and flush the Droid Handler/high-end combat droids idea.

I agree with Rasal ....but only partly , Combat droids dont play a big role in the universe at this point in time Especially cause they are outlawed hehe mabye they will count as smuggled goods , that would be kinda cool.

Im all for new utility droids , make droids actually usefull and valueable , that INCLUDES combat droids however this way the combat classes can have a usefull droid too. Mabye let them have slightly stronger droids than no combatants. Would be nice to see a good mix of droids being used

The only thing that really bugs me is batteries sure they are fine but a Power droid needing a battery!!! come on lol. Thats like a Car needing a truck to pull it around all the time just to drive it....other than when its being towed for being broken of course

Well, even refueling jumbo jets need fuel.

I personally would love to see a high level combat droid for Master Droid Engineers. Really what else do we have going for us. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy making piles of Medic droids like the rest of you, but come on, give us something to work with in combat. I have to rely on my Bio-engineered mount to keep me alive. All other professions have something great about them, but what do we have. Why shouldn't a MDE be able to control a more sophisticated droid or at least more of them.

Nevermind I just thought myself out of it. Just because a weaponsmith can make higher end weapons, does not mean he can use them. An armorsmith on the otherhand can use all that he makes...hmmm. Same with tailor. Same with Medic, provide the other skills are up.

Oh well..night.

Unless SOE does a complete revamp of the Droid Engineer profession like they did with CH and Chef, nothing good will come of Publish 7 & 8.

SOE has made it clear that they do not wish to fix professions that are not directly related to combat. After they destroyed the Probot market with the "rebalance" and would not even introduce the <CL10 combat droids, they proved they do not wish to fix DE.

I've been a DE since Day one and was working on it during Beta. Every single "change" DEs got was based on CH "fixes". A long time ago there was a droid repair kit, but it was removed. They could easily implement a droid repair kit based on pet stimpacks. The code for them are tied together and could be fixed in a "hotfix", But again they will not because DE's are combat ineffective and they want to keep it that way.

Further proof can be given as the CH "nerf" and the Bio Engineer revamp. When they nerfed wild pets they allowed BEs to create pets that go beyond the CL10 specification. For those of you who are wondering any pet with a HAM lower then 900 is considered a CL10 pet. A friend of mine is a BE and he has created a CL10 with 2K HAM. This pet was not an exploit pet and was crafted using Bolle Bol and gurr cat DNA. Again if SOE cared one iota they would do something about this. As CH are needed for support to thier beloved Combat classes they got fixed to make them level.

With the upcoming Combat and Weapon rebalancing DEs will be farther left behind. This is a sad state of affairs and I challange anyone in SOE to prove that this is not the case. Anything that was remotely used by combat type class have either been removed or made unusable. (Storage and Data Modules ring a bell?) Lets face it folks the only thing DE is good for is making mobile crafting stations and supplying Bounty Hunters with a was to go up the Investigation tree. A wholly dishearting situation.

Should I be excited about a new combat droid? No, I should be excited about being able to provide a quality product that someone would be proud to use.

Again prove me wrong on these points SOE. They are valid points provided in a logical and orderly manner.

Just for reference, your definition of 'CL 10 pet) sucks rocks. There has been NO official definition, in any way shape or form, that didn't come from a player giving their guess.
CL is a function of HAM, resists, armor, vulnerabilities, etc.
Anger is fine, your profession has been shat upon repeatedly. But be accurate in your anger.
BTW: The probot resists and armor (last time I hauled mine out) vastly exceed what can be 'built into' a BE pet, in that having armor at all (or more than single digit resists to one, maybe two of the key ones) makes it leap up the CL chain. Granted that it's health isn't all that, but it actually lasted longer at 800 health than a 2k pet did (raw ham by itself isn't that useful).

Seshemw,

you would like some proof on what a level 10 pet is fine. Turn in TWO pets a level 13 and 15 pet, (mount and a combat pet I had.) BOTH pets were return as CL10 and BOTH had a HAM of 900. Also my friend is a CH and he caught a level 10 Fanned Rawl, you guessed it 900 HAM. This is the arguement I used. This is just a small example of what is happening.YesProbotscan have medium armor, but if aProbot is made with Light armor (and plenty of high end Bio pets at level 10 have them) they are still listed as CL10.If your point were correct then the CL should be lowered, which it won't. I have made plenty of Light armor probots, (as Probots andCrafting station droids are the only ones that sell) and they areALL CL10 droids.

The skinny is this, IF SOE wanted or cared to fix DE they would. They have proven this time and time again. Until the community in general understands this there will be no saving this profession.

AGAIN SOE, what are you going to do to FIX Droid Engineer. We are sick of being your scape goats.

What new combat droids? You're kidding right?

Perfectly understandable how Gribnitz jumped to his conclusion, you don't sound like a DE.

Why so cynical? Publish7 we get the combat modules that strap a pistol on R2 but is never any more powerfull than a probot. Publish8 we get "utility" droids. That sounds good but the DEVs have already said they have already spent so much time on the animation and models of the true combat droids, meaning the utility added will be whatever they could scrap together in time. Then they move on. And if some form of droid decay isnt introduced, once youve sold the new utility droids for a weeksales will die again.
