Who told him to stay out? I only said stay out if you arn't a Master Artisan or don't have a friend that is, becuase it would be way to costly to buy all the parts we need constantly.

wasn't referring to anyone in particular, just the general comments that tend to pop up about people being crazy or to run as far and as fast as you can. Hasn't been much of that yet in this post, but figured it would be sooner or later.

The highest level droid modules do take very specific resources that are often hard to find, but in my opinion, you don't really need the highest level modules. You can stack the lower level modules for the same effect, and there are so few truly useful modules overall, there is no real penalty for stacking the lower level modules instead of using the higher level ones (with the exception of the uber-crafter's droid.

I'm a master armorsmith right now and I was thinking about using my remaining skill points to master droid engineer.

Why?

Armorsmith is a TOUGH profession when it comes to resources. Extremely time consuming and the last thing I want to do is pickup another crafting profession that is resource intensive and in high demand (ie Weaponsmith, Architect). Droid engineer seems like it won't see THAT much business (which is nice for me since I can't even hope to keep up with the demand in AS).

My question is:

Does the Droid Engineer profession have intensive requirements on specific resources or is it fairly generalized? For example, armorsmith requires specifically named resources (colat iron, kirrium steel, etc.). Does most of Droid Engineer call for any type of steel, iron, chemical or are most of the components specific?

And how much time should I expect to devote if I were running a droid vendor?

Thanks!

Hey Sanctity!
To give you a idea on time spent: 10% vendor stocking, 10% surveying, 80% babysitting factories. I've got 1 factory that all it does is shift between which MA part I'm making. My second, makes actual droid parts.
Pain vs. Armorsmith? Not nearly. I consider Armorsmith probably the hardest Artisan profession. However if I were a armorsmith and looking for a second Artisan professsion, I'd get Tailor. Make your own Tailor items and you don't have to waste lots on different factories.

lol thanks for all the replies everybody.

I'm just looking for something to dabble in. I do have tailor at 0-2-0-0 just so I don't have to rely on somebody else to help me making subcomponents for my armor.

I have 2 characters. Sanctity is a bounty hunter and Polyester is my crafter. So I'm kind of sitting here wondering what I should spend my remaining points on for Poly since I don't need any combat professions. I don't realy mind how unaffective DE is, my main concern was that I'd be chasing resources 90% of the time like I do with Armorsmith.

From what I can tell, there are just a couple named resources like Neutronium Steel, Duralloy Steel, and a couple others that I need to worry about which is no biggie. Most of it is pretty generalized or is a common spawn on my server. So I guess the question is:

If you forget about the relative uselessness of many of the droids and the lack of decent income compared to other professions, is DE enjoyable? LOL I think I just cut out 90% of the reason somebody would enjoy a profession, but I think you know what I mean.

You know, I didn't think about this until now, and just for the purposes of discussion, does Quality of resources matter?

Being a DE is enjoyable, but its a very bitter pill to swallow if you take it too seriously. The abilities granted in the various skill boxes are horribly unbalanced relative to each otherand not really worth the skill point expense for half of them because of the bugs and the unfinished schematics. But its fun otherwise.

Bah, don't listen to the idiots telling you to stay out, it really is a fun profession, there is quite a bit more variety than any of the other crafting professions. Most armorsmiths/weaponsmiths I know only sell 2-3 types of weapons and generally only composite armor. I sell probably a good 5-6 types of droids a day, and they're almost never the same.

As for resources, steel and fiberplast are the biggies. Extrusive ore, siliclastic ore, and inert gas are up there. Lidium extrusive ore, neutronium steel, ditanium steel, duranium steel, and duralloy steel are the ones you'll want to keep you're eyes open for.

The light was very pretty...until I got here

Anyhow, take it from a Master DE that decided to grind his way all the way to the top before he looked around to see what he can build. I got the the DE profession by grinding. When I finally got here...I tried to craft something. And that started a downward spiral of chasing rare resources around the galaxy. You want time consuming? I will give you time consuming . If you don't have it bookmarked, swgcraft.com (live it, love it, learn it).

I think its a fun profession...but if you aren't looking for a time sink, then I honestly don't think its for you.

One other thing. Make yourself a ton of composite armor segments while you're still an armorsmithif you want to make lvl 5 and 6 armor for probots (and whatever other combat droids are supposedly being released) as you'll only be able to make lvl 4 w/o these components.

(note: we're both on Gorath)

1) I spend most of my "resource chasing" time helping out friends that are Weaponsmith's and Armorsmiths.

2) Do quality of resources matter for DE? now, no. However, you never know when you're going to need good stuff (especially when/if the changes come through)....and if one of my buddy's needs something I have it.
