Observations from Naritus:

a) Always use at least one combat module in a tank droid. I tried an ADV R3 with 6 autoheal modules. Runs away from fights.

b) Always experiment autoheal as high as possible. Game stores decimals, but does not show them. When you combine them, you get higher ratings as the numbers after 0.XX are added together. The aforementioned droid has Autoheal 118 from two 59 clusters ... which might be close to the theoretical limit of 120 (as I suspect that upper limit is 20 per module !).

c) In a group several people should use those combat-autoheal droids ... Makes them REALLY REALLY nasty as the heal rate is massive.

d) The combat module use should be delibaterately NOT experimented. The droid is only supposed to keep the mob busy, but should NOT hit it for a lot of damage. So the droid does not "steal" the XP of killing the mob. If the droid can "maintain aggro" ... we can only see that after some more testing.

i've tried to make a good tank droid but with auto-repair mods but i can't get the single mods over 19 and it doesn't seem to heal that fast but i thought it might be a good idea to havegroupof 5 or 6 each with one of these droids all with the auto-repair on and see how that works.

20 points of heal every 10 sec per mod is the cap imposed by the devs. however they do stack so the theoritial limit is 120 points per Droid in the group if you have the best ingredance however this means no combate mod and that means that the droid will run not fight and therefor a bad tank. also more then one of these droids in a group really kicks up the bonuses.

I read through the DE 101 thread but didn't see the answers.

I'd like to get a tank droid. Obviously it needs to hold aggro but I don't care too much about the damage it deals as long as it keeps a critter's attention. The advanced LE repair droid has a high health but not as many modules as some other droids. Is it still the best chassis for a tank?

Can a droid have two auto-repair modules?
Will two armor modules stack on those chassis that can have it?

What should I be paying attention to / asking for with regards to ordering a tank droid?

1) In my opinion, the LE Repair droid is the best tank droid,if you just want it to hold agro and don't care about damage. This is, of course, due to it's high HAM. While an R3 or Probot can deal more damage, they die faster. You want yours to stay alive longer, obviously.

2) Yes, a droid can have more than one. In an LE Repair Advanced model, you could have 1 combat module (to allow it to attack) and then 2 auto repair modules. These do stack for an increased effect, as do combat modules.

3) Armor modules stack, but only to a degree. At the present time, droid armor isn't nearly as effective as we'd all like it to be. This is illustrated by (2) Level 4 armor modules having the exact same effectiveness as (1) Level 6 module. From there, the stacking stops. (2) Level 6 modules is the same as (1) Level 6. (2) Level 5 is the same as (1) Level 6. Any mix that goes higher than (2) Level 4's, is essentially not worth it. If it has 2 Armor slots you can put in (2) Level 4's or (1) Level 6 and leave the second slot empty and get the exact same effect. Adding another module has no additional value at that point.

4) You want the highest HAM you can get first and foremost. Next you want the Auto-Repair modules to have the highest experimented values the DE can provide. This will speed up delay between healings, and increase the amount healed each "pulse". That's the important stuff. You do have a personal preference option at this point. If you want the droid to steal as little exp from you as possible, get a combat module with a low rating. If you want the droid to do any type of real damage assitance, get a high rated one (though the damage from a single module will be very low anyways).

Note: Don't forget to ask your DE for some Droid Repair Kit D's and a few crates of Droid Batteries. While the auto-repair module will help the droid stay alive, there will be frequent times where it will just not be enough. You can then use the Repair kit to heal it's HAM damage just like a Stimpack does for you. However, this does not heal wounds - only a DE can do that, or someone else that has a droid with a Droid Repair Module (not the same as Auto-repair - Droid Repair can't heal the droid it's in). Additionally, the auto-repair modules burn through a droids battery life quickly, so you will want to have several on hand. The upside is... droid batteries are generally very cheap, and have 4-5uses per battery.

Hope this helps ya out.

  • Q. What is the best Tank Droid?

  • A. This is a matter of opinion. A Probot with 5 Auto-Repair Modules has up to 3200 HAM, heals faster, and should only do 1 point of damage per attack. An Adv R3, with 5 Auto-Repair Module and 1 Combat Module has up to 4500 HAM, heals as fast as a Probot, has more HAM then a Probot, but will cause more then 1 point of damage. An Adv LE with 2 Auto-Repair Modules and 1 Combat Module has up to 6000 HAM, but heals slower then an R3 or Probot, and will cause more then 1 point of damage. "

    How do these guys tank?

Not very well. They simply attack whomever or whatever you tell them to. If you cause more damage, the target will aggro you instead. Since they don't have taunt or anything like that, droids aren't very effective as tanks.

What sort of mobs can they survive against?

Combat droids are CL30. They can usually survive one-on-one against anything CL25ish or lower.

And what the best way to use them as a tank in a group?

See answer one. the only way to use a droid as a "tank" is to cause less hate than they do. Since you'd have to do less damage than them to accomplish this, unless you're a VERY low level group (CL1-10ish) forget about it.
