Yes, I do like you and your ideas Yoda-5499, you have some good ones, can't you get a job as a SWG developer? Everyone does have an opinion, just because mine is mine doesn't make it right by no means. If it did MDEs would kick out the emperor and rule the galaxy! LOL However mine was just that, an idea, and I didn't say it would knock players *out* of having droids, just the high level droids. Take bomb droids, only 2 professions get to use them. 2 out of how many? The Eng 4 thing is just a easy way of placing stipulations on who could handle or control such an advanced droid. (Does sound more like a Droid Handler/Droid Controller profession) One complaint I could foresee with a CL stipulation is your CL80 combatants would say "You can do everything now, craft/entertain, fight and quest, give me crafting abilities, it's unfair, I want to be a Jedi, MDE, MBio, MRifles, MRanger" If it is based on CL then non-combat professions would have the advantage. Hey that sounds good, would be nice to turn the tables on those whiney guys! They get all the cool stuff anyway! Oh wait.. arguing for something I really don't agree with... ok. With a CL80 droid we could do it all too. Crap that argument even throws out the Eng 4 thing too. (See mine isn't right and I even think so! LOL)
**Please strike all the above from the record***

So we are back to DC/DH. Hey devs... add that to the game please!

Now then how many mandatory items do we have? How about a crafting tool, crafting station, crafting droid? All crafters HAVE to use them. It is mandatory. Arakyds and seekers I think are pretty much mandatory for BHs. Ships are mandatory for pilots, how far will that light duty ship get you? Weapons and armor are needed by all combat professions, well except jedi, don't they make their own saber? Weapons are very close to needed by everybody. I am CL1 and have a home outside Dantooine Agro/Pirate Outpost, so I get attacked A LOT by those pesky pirates. Now my CL1 CDEF pistol does relatively NO damage, but I shoot while my droid kicks their butt.... most of the time. It's not mandatory but I really hate to run every time I'm shot at by a CL10 pirate, that or just stand there and die without giving them a little burnt flesh too.

Ok, now what was the whole meaning behind all this? Ehh lost my place and my thoughts, too darn many El. GP mods to keep up with. Oh, mandatory droids. I really don't like the idea but it has argument cause we have mandatory things for lots of professions. As far as droids only the BH droids seem mandatory, and like I said they may not be, I don't know the profession very well. If new skills/features were added to certain professions that required a droid to do, it wouldn't knock established Masters back down but if they wanted to do the new thing for their profession the would have to buy a droid.

I think the only way to truly stimulate the DE market is droid decay. I won't state all that info cause it has been stated so much everywhere else. Just this, everything decays, why not droids? Anything with moving parts will eventually wear out, that is fact. It has to be maintained or it will go bye bye. Even non-combat droids. My car has never seen a bullet hole but it will be beyond repair sooner or later. When mechanics come into play things will wear out. Take your printer for example, it sees no combat, (well other than fighting it to get the ink replaced), but how long will it last if used? Now there again, I'm sorta lazy and don't want to be worked to death every time I log in so I don't push for it. lol If there was decay there would be more MDEs, so maybe it would balance out.

Now beyond decay I want new stuff to build too. I want to build those cool super battle droids and droidekas. I want new mods that certain people need/want. (Course it "could" be said that we have too much now.) To make the game continue to be fun and interesting we want more! DC/DH would give us the new stuff we wanted/needed, it would have something new in the game for anybody that wanted to do it, and it would be the droidrevamp we were promised the first time!

(I think my main problem is I can't even commit to my own ideas without seeing the down/other side also)

Saying that BH droids are not mandatory is like saying a Master Rifleman doesn't *have* to use a gun. They can just hunt CL5 creature and poundon it with their fists.

I dont think all droid functions should be mandatory. I am fine with that particular setup. The original post was mostly about limiting what one single Droid is able to do. This introduces greater "churn" in the Droid market. More sales, as people try out some of the nifty things droids can do, and make room later on for a different droid.

Droids cant fufill their realistic purpose, again, because they would be TOO useful! Why bother even logging in if your droid will go survey, report a waypoint, then a BLL will drop the harvs, and deliver the goods, and your medic droid will heal you, and your combat droid will solo dangerous for you, etc... These are things that *could* happen if they let droids fufill their potential. But the problem with that is that Droids would be the only ones actually *playing* the game. Droids dont pay the subscription cost.

So, again, IMO, to make more droids and droid features more palatable to the balance-wary Devs, we would need to limit the total possible things a single character can do with their personal droids. Limiting the things a single droid can do will make players have to choose the kind of droids they need, per their playstyle... due to their limited droid slots in the datapad.

Jedi will never be a starting profession...Looted items and quest items will never be better then crafted items, this is not a loot based game...CH will return shortly...CH and BE will not be back in game...Rangers are getting their revamp next!...The stealth system will not be changing in the spy expertise...Need any more examples of things the devs said that did not hold true?

I'll admit that saying BH could do without seekers was out there.

That's all I have to say. Only thing left for me to do is to look up various droids in Star Wars and see if they could be put into SWG. Maybe I'll create a system that includes a new line of droid modules and chassis that would be worthy of recongnition in Section 4 of the Centralized Droid Issues thread.
