Thread: Wouldn't it be great if...
It's so fun to dream, isn't it? Your ideas would be sweet....
But since tailors run their businesses so differently, I can't see the devs adding an ID-like option unfortunately. Some tailors are really hands-on with customers and some are not (like me). As for seeing colors before you make an item: I'd love to be able to access all of the color palettes at once to see which colors come close to matching colors on other palettes. For example, matching a brown shade on the 255-color palette to a brown shade on the 144-color palette. I don't know how I feel about a universal palette as discussed in so many other posts....
Irarely do custom jobs(I stock about 3500 tailored items at all times and figure if they can't find it on my vendor, then they are too picky! lol. that's more harsh than I mean to sound!). I make exceptions for guildies and very polite, understanding, respectful, knowledgible, patient people or good repeat customers. I love making tailored items, but *sheepish grin* don't enjoy waiting on customers very much. If they know exactly what they want and send me an email (Irela's against random tells!), it's cool but otherwise....I'd rather be creating new stuff, tending my harvesters/factories, chatting with guildies, decorating my yacht, running from giant gubbers (eeeeek!!!!), or shopping, shopping, shopping! I guess I run my business like a huge department store and not a boutique.
If I ever do decide to go into special orders big-time (since I'm becoming more well-known now, I may have to take the leap), I'm going to send customers to one of the catalog sites listed in the stickies above to pick colors/styles. Have you considered having them try on items you've already made in thetypes of colors theyare thinking aboutjust so they know for sure what color(s) they want? Especially if the item they want isn't normally a good seller....Hope that made sense! I'm working onno sleep....

Oh, and I forgot! I would charge them for each try, give them the items they didn't like, and they can give, sell, destroy the items or whatever. You are spending precious time and resources. Make it clear ahead of time that they will be charged for each try. That's what I do when someone asks for something with 4 sockets.

Yes, I totally agree with your suggestions about customers and trying out colors and such. Will have to think about trying to get samples back into my shop. I am actually the complete opposite of you in the way I run my business - I have purely a custom-order business. Unless I have a customer asking for something, I don't make it. I used to keep a whole set of vendors going (for over a year actually) - but finally traded them all in. My trusty droid Singer gets a real work-out as we travel around the planets working with customers to meet their needs. Some samples would be handy though - maybe if I stuffed my droids full of samples to show clients.
Man, I just love a game where the same profession can be played so differently! And it's fascinating to hear how others run their business. By the way, I LOVE THE NAME OF YOUR DROID! (I wish Ihad thought of that for mine....)
