Thread: The droid programming language (first draft)
Part V: The Impact of Components on Programming
Personality Chips
The higher level personality chips give the droid a wider range of emotions and social commands to use.
Modules
Item storage module - This allows the droid to access certain items in its inventory, such as survey devices and stimpacks.
Data module - Allows the droid to store and create waypoints and use the /survey command if they have the appropriate survey device in their inventory.
Medical module - This acts as a Novice Medic skill for droids, enabling them to use /healdamage and /firstaid. This is only useful if they have a storage module to hold stimpacks.
Specific Droid Abilities
Protocol Droid - This droid can speak and understand any language and can also send and receive /tells.
Power Droid - With a storage module and droid batteries, this droid can monitor and recharge other droids' power levels.
Surgical Droid - This droid can use wound medpacks and /healwound in addition to stimpacks.
Repair Droid - This droid can repair things with the appropriate repair tool in its inventory.
As a side note though, I wouldn't expect this type of change to ever make it into the game. (sigh)
/bump
cause it can give an utility to droid, cause for the moment it's the useless proffession, and it's terrible in SW univers
Fantastic work. I wish they would impliment this. I will sticky this for a few days or so.
It would be absolutely awsome to have this type of codeing ability in the game. And it would add a hugh amount of content to the game that would keep people playing for alot longer. Me personally I would take months just to perfect one program.
It's a dan shame that it probably will never happen though.
One of the biggest problems of artisan classes is that the lower level folks don't have anything folks want.
Wow, this is so frickin' cool...
Very nice idea!
One of the things I get complaints about most (besides lack of functionality) is that droids are strangely silent. I now have to explain to people that personality chips won't make the droid talk at all - just affect how the droid speaks to you personally when you program them.
Besides that, the functionality suggested would really go a long way to helping us out.
Good job!

Wow, a sticky!
Anyway, here's some great ideas from this thread: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=droid_engineer&message.id=23311(/waits for forum to slaughter the URL formatting)
-Musicians using droids for more elaborate symphonies
-Image designers, artisans, chefs, tailors using them in a similar manner.
-Surveyors sending out surveying droids. Then getting load lifters to bring back large amounts of resources to them.
-Slicer droids for smugglers
-Bomb droids for commandoes
-Practice droids for all the combat classes. Wouldn't that be fun, simulating an encounter with whatever you program it to be.
-Walking billboards and advertizers and lots lots more.
I especially like the idea of practice droids. I think the only use for the binary load lifter would probably be something involving transporting resources. Also, the basics to enable programming would have to be changed a little, since I just realized that if the disk drive takes up a module slot, it would be impossible to have a droid use stimpacks.
It is a very interesting idea... very indepth and opens lots of possabilities...
other than that, I am against it. The last thing I want to do is actually have to program in this game... I was barely able to get through C programming in college, to say nothing of some programming needed for a cool combat droid game for the C= 64 (have I just dated myself?)
