OMG! just what we DID NOT WANT!!! we wanted a class that did both craft and handle! Is our new DE rep feeding the wrong info here?

Did we not respond to every "what do you guys want" post since release? I can't beleave we're getting the stick again!

I happen to believe thata properly designed and implemented "cert" system for combat-capable droids is a VERY good solution and totally doable. This is, of course, the logical solution...but may not be the one that the Devs like since it involves **gasp** WORK.

Making a new DH profession, in my opinion, was simply a very easy way out of a very sticky problem. That's not fixing a profession...more like an 'artful dodge' of our plight.

This is what has totally floored me TK...wouldn't it be easier to just give everyone droid certs (or licenses as some have called them) than to create a totally new profession fron scratch?

I just don't know what to say...TH has posted more totally wrong information (that he has misrepresented to the devs) in the last week than I can keep up with. I am starting to get so irritated I am thinking of quitting the game entirely...

Well...it sure doesn't seem like the announced Droid Handler idea is going over too well.

So, while we all might have had issue with some kind of certs, I believe they are an imminently more workable solution than a new (perhaps problematic) Droid Handler profession.

That most definitely doesn't seem to please anyone (except a very small percentage), thus far.

....and the debate rages on.

Actually, what issues are there with the Droid Handler profession? I wasn't talking about acceptance issues, I was talking about implementation and balancing issues.

The Droid Handler profession should be pretty easy for the Devs to balance - after all they can just look at Creature Handler. Furthermore adding a new profession seems like it ought to be a lot easier than trying to re-work and re-balance an existing profession, let alone ALL existing professions.

Other than your expressed optimism that we could come up with something that would work, what leads you to believe that a cert system is better than a new Droid Handler class from a balancing and implementation point of view? And again, I'm not talking user acceptance. What about it is easier from the Devs' point of view?

OMG, I just hope the new Ultima or WOW comes out faster than anticipated. I'm gone. This is not what I was hoping for at all. Mechanic CH's is a stupid idea and leaves the rest of the SWG in the dirt.

This game just gets more stupid and the community more ignored by the minute. SWG, I hope you love yourself as the game flops into the dirt. We 1% DE's will be the first to go.

TH doesn't get listened too. He just has to relay the garbage ideas the dev's come up with. I don't care how much neat content you feed into thier brains. They have an idea and they are going to stick with it.

The reason DH is "easier" is balance. They've already done the hard work of balancing everything appropriately with CH. All they would have to do is copy the CH profession to get a well balanced DH profession. Anything other than that would require a lot of testing and iterating in order to get the balance right.IMO.

But add me to the list of people upset by this.

If nothing else, I'm flat out insulted by TH's claim that the DE's very clearly asked for DH. That's a lie. TH either knows it to be a lie, or he's so clueless that we might as well abandon all hope of ever having any avenue of communication between the players and the developers.

Well, I hate to be the one to rub it in, but I TOLD YOU SO!!!

Droid Engineers DID tell the devs REPEATEDLY that they didn't want to become Droid Handlers. But the analogies constantly used with respect to the Droid Invasion clearly reference the Bio-Engineer and related concepts. Was it not evident that there was going to be some form of Handler involved someplace in this schema?

All that the Droid Engineers had to do was to be willing to be flexible enough to make Droid Engineers both the creators AND the handlers of the new Combat Droids. But this community was completely inflexible, and said they didn't want it loudly and repeatedly. They made this decision by not wanting to taint their precious crafting class.

See what you get for turning down a gift? See what happens when you assume that the devs won't follow the path of least complexity?

Hell - I'm glad they're going to do it this way. As many in these forums have noted, everyone getting a droideka would suck in the long run. This is the only way to keep the game from becoming Droid Wars in the same manner as the Creature Wars we're finally drifting away from. It'll reward true engineering and promote masterful designs over crap mass-production like vehicles are at present. In a way, this is the best thing they could have done for Droid Engineers, because it will reward craftsmanship - just like Bio-Engineers have been rewarded for quality work.

Isn't that what you're here for? Quality production?

Good Droid Engineers who pride themselves on craftsmanship have nothing to fear from the creation of a Droid Handler class. It's only the slackers and dross have anything to be concerned about...

Oh, and please - feel free to quit over this. There are so few Droid Engineers that it won't make much of a dent in the overall population, and the ones that are left will reap the enormous profits of having far fewer producers in the marketplace.

I can live with that.

You know...the statement TH made pissed me off to no end. Not because I am a CH, but because that is PROOF he has been paying zero attention to the DE forums. Pretty lame.

PS. I also envy your guy's organization...if only the CH class had a reason to do the same...
