Thread: Get rid of Droid Batteries

Well it all depends on the droid, I know that my R3 with 5 auto repair and 1 combat burns batteries a lot faster then my full combat probot. It's really hard to get an exact number. Even if the battery use on combat droids is less, it jsut means they would last longer with a "battery Core."

I think your missing my point. I'm not suggesting this idea because batteries are a problem. I'm suggesting it as a type of Droid decay. But BECAUSE it would eliminate batteries, it would actually make many people happy and not be considered a nerf.

You said your Alt uses a droid all the time, take a look at how many hours she actually uses it. Then take a look at how fast she goes through armor and weapons. Would it really be that big of a deal to buy her a new Droid every couple of months?

On the decay, most of my combat using a Droid recently involved us using a ton of Droids together so somebody could get squad leader. Most of us were using Droids with 1 combat module and 5 repair modules. With Auto Repair on. I didn't make the numbers up, I asked the people we were there with, they said that about every 5-10 minutes they needed to recharge.

Then again, we didn't have watches out, so it may have been longer. Auto-Repair mixed with combat does eat up batteries.

I supply my entire guild with Droids, plus have customers that I talk to. Quite often people tell me they don't want to deal with droids simply because batteries are an annoyance.

Under the new system, should Droids last weeks or months? I answer yes.

How long they will last should be based on how much you use them. If you fight with your Droid 6 days a week, 6 hours a day, you may need to buy a new one every couple of weeks. If you use your crafting droid just for an hour here or there on occassion, you may go months.

How often you use the Droid will determine how often you need a new one. Isn't it the same for weapons and armor? The more you use it, the faster it decays.

Since not all Droids are combat, the only really feasible way to implement Droid decay (IMO) is through Battery Power. Yes some people may not find Batteries inconvienent, but others do. So they may like the new system better.

You need to sort out your numbers.

Batteries last 1 hour.

If you use auto-repair module (toggle turned on), or entertainer module (still need confirm on that), it'll last 30 minutes.

Storage and crafting station don't need power, and it's good that way. Personal crafting station and backpack don't need power either.

Usuall price on my server is 50 per charge (and that is a big profit already). 50 per hour is inline with maintenance cost of house, harvester, ...

I sell a crate of 4 charge batteries for 4K, 3 charges for 3K.

So, with 4K, you can last 25*4 = 100 hours. or, with specific modules 50 hours.

As long as people buy batteries per crate, they really don't have trouble with that.

Bring forth solar power for our droids! Never mind , we been trying that with cars for years and I still can't get one But this is a game, solar power droids .

Good luck with a solar powered droid on a planet such as dathomir, that place sees less light than a Scotsman's wallet

This would actually be a very helpful idea for the merchant barker droids as well. No more going back to the starport to recharge every 2-3hrs.

I might actually use one! (And i make them hehe)

Tk, I know that if this was done, it would not be soon, but what are your thoughts on it?

The batterty 'thing' has been around for awhile. I'm not sure if the type of system you propose is workable or not, but I know there's a lot of DEs and droid users interested in seeing the inconvienence of batteries go away.

It makes the most sense to me to have a new type of droid battery, created from Radioactive and other items.

I'll start a "Yes or No" poll on this and we'll see what happens...

Thx TK wasn't sure if you saw it or not. As you can see from the post though, it's not only a way to get rid of Droid Batteries, but also a way to implement Droid Decay.

Of course, we couldn't expect it soon.

Yea...I think battery use has been suggested a few times in the past as a method for tracking/setting decay rates.

Example: For every "X" droid batteries you use, the droid loses "Y" amount of it's total possible Vitality (or something similar).

For now, I'll just start the poll to see if people want to dump Droid Batteries and we'll go from there.

Note: I'll poll to see if Droid Batteries should be related to some kind of decay / repair type revamp.

Update! I just posted this to the Corr. boards...we'll see what comes of it.

Heya, all...

I wanted to shake the tree and find out:

  • Are there any details you can share about how droids will take damage in JTL?

  • Will droids be a 'targetable' component of another player's ship?

  • Will droids be damaged to a degree where a replacement is the best 'repair'?

The DEs are currently interested (very much) in talking about droid decay rates, methods, systems, etc. (as it relates both to the ground game, "utility" (non-combat) droids and JTL.

If the door is open to talk about droid damage/decay, etc., please let me know. We don't want to hear the, "You all should have brought this up some time ago." thing...

Info....?

My personal opinion (Since your poll said to answer the questions and not debate)

I think Batteries should remain, however I think the method ofrecharging Droids should definately rework. Right now we use a charge from a battery to recharge the Droid. What if there was a battery storage compartment built on to each Droid that allowed the user to put in X batteries and those batteries would auto-charge the Droid when the first charge depleted.

For example: A Merchant Droid is at 100% Battery Life. The owner clicks on the "recharge" command and a window appears showing a Droid battery in a compartment. The battery has 3 charges on it. The owner can remove the Battery or leave it. If the compartment was empty, the owner could add a Battery to it.

When the Droid drops to 0% Battery Life, it checks its battery supply; 1 Battery with 3 charges. It then uses up 1 charge from the battery and Battery Life hits 100% again.

This would also make having high quality batteries (aka higher charge) worth a tad more and the life of the Droid would last longer.

Well prices on batteries will vary depending on the server. I sell a decent amount for 100 per charge, they go for that on the Bazaar as well.

Well I guess I will need to do some exact battery number tests, I know for a fact that my tank R3 doesn't last 30 minutes. My Entertainer droid eats them fast too, but that depends on how many effects I have going, with no delay the battery goes down fast.

I think people are missing my main point. Yes maybe my numbers are off, you can pick that apart if you want too.

My point is that many many people feel we need Droid decay, for combat and non-combat models. If you just add Droid Decay with no "upside" the end result may be people will use less Droids. However if you add Droid Decay by adding "Battery Cores," then remove batteries, then while people may need to buy more Droids, they get an "upside." That upside is spending less money on batteries and the inconvienance of using them.

If done and balanced correctly, it may be possible that MORE people will use Droids after the implementation of Droid Decay this way. Wouldn't that be ironic.

Wonder if TK has seen this yet.
