Are you kidding! I'm going to be driving around in the most beat up swoop bikes available! They'll spark and burn and I'll have to jump and roll as they explode behind me. Then I'll get up, build another one and keep going Would be a great entrance tothe next meetingto leap from an exploding speeder onto the stage!

Sodan,

You know as well as I that trying to guess the average market price for vehicles is folly.

My guess is that it will go down pretty much like mounts, with one important exception.

Any Eng. 4 crafter will be able to simply make their own vehicles. So, that knocks a lot of potential clients off the list.

So, the issue will be how much non-crafters can (or will be willing to) pay for 'phat rides'.

You know what? There's a TERRIBLY interesting tidbit in this stickied post from JustG... http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=TestCenter&message.id=40067

This is in the fourth post:

Vehicles: Move the vehicle schematics to Mater Artisan. (S) (sic)

So what do you know? It looks like most DEs will still be in the game, but many others may be out.

Taking a well-deserved vacation from his successful Droid Engineering business, Master Rho can be found puttering around the galaxy.

I mean, look at all the subcomponents that droids take - a vehicle takes none?

The thing is, if both the vehicles and all/any subcomponents are all together under Master Artisan, then, from a game design perspective, it doesn't make sense to include the subcomponents as seperately craftable. The point of subcomponents in games like this is so players have to rely on other players who have skills they don't have to work together to get all the parts they need. If one skill does everything, then the point is moot.

I'm pretty positive all vehicles will be under MA by the time they reach live - EngIV is way too easy considering mounts ended up at the top of the CH tree.

I doubt very much that the vehicle schematics change and become vastly more complex just before vehicles roll. For one thing, they intend to roll this code in about 2 weeks. It's a big patch, and that's barely enough time to get everything tested and debugged.

The second point would be that they've tended toward simplifying schematics lately. Look at what happened to the Weapon/Clothing/Armor Repair Tools for instance. They used to be really complex, complete with optional slot for a Microsensor Suite. That changed, and now all those tools simply have 2 or 3 resource slots.

As far as the disappearing "move to MA" line, who knows? It disappeared along with a LOT of other stuff (if you go look at that post now, every blank line was initially a list item that's disappeared). It could mean it was a to-do and it's done internally (the schematic, as of an hour ago, is still in Eng IV). It could be something they discussed in a development meeting and decided against. It could be a secret SOE conspiracy to drive us all to insanity trying to figure it out and eventually to powerful psychotropic medications for which they would get substantial kickbacks. Who knows?

In any event, I have this to say:

DEs, REJOICE! There will be plenty of demand for vehicles from the 50+% of the player population that are not Artisans. We and all of our Artisan Engineering brethern are going to mint some ca$h!

REJOICE TOO, in that this latest patch is a huge first step toward the end of Beast Wars in Space! Vehicles will supercede mounts (believe me, a vehicle is MUCH more desirable than a non-CH mount for both its speed and the driver's ability to escape aggros while travelling). The icing on the cake is that the CHs are finally feeling the gentle, caressing sting of the Nerf Bat they have needed for so long! Sorry CHs, but you needed it.

Thought the Devs wanted them to be easy to make (E.G. comments made in the last interview).

I wouldn't be surprised if the vehicles aren't being concidered a 'stealth nerf' to the CH monopoly on mounts at this time. Food for thought.

Don't see how this can be a 'stealth nerf' for mounts. The prices for mounts are now stabilising and the money's already chagned hands, so the CH's that cleaned house are set and nothing will change that now. If they wanted to **edit** CH mounts in the bud they could have released them at the same time. What would be even funnier is if they were released in reverse order. Wonder how popular the mounts would have been if everyone had landspeeders and swoops.

I'm still wondering if there will be more advanced vehicles out there in the future. That these are in Artisan where most 'tasters' for advanced professions stem from might indicate that later on once the vehicle dynamic has been stabilised on live, a whole new profession (or advanced vehicles being made from outputs from several professions) might be coming along. Perhaps later down the line heavier class vehicles -AT-ATs, Droid tanks, what have you will come down the line, requiring advanced superstructure (architect), weapons and weapon mounts(weaponsmith), armour plating (armoursmith), electronics/targetting computers (droid engineer) - bringing an entire new element to the GCW with full clashes along the entire line! *froth*

Or, I could just be giving SOE too much credit. Heh.
