Thread: Thank you Runesabre!
In short, I think that Runesabre's post was a good thing.
And we should all applaud him for it. I know I am.
"but we've had smoke blown up our rear ends since launch"
True, but at least it's nice smelling, colorful smoke this time. ![]()
I do agree that the tone of the post is different than we've heard in the past, and what Runesabre's saying is what I (and most, if not all DE's) want: Fixes and added utility. If and when that happens, I'll be the first one to put Rune on a pedestal. It's just hard knowing that we've heard all sorts of talk before, and nothing's come of it. I'm just an old, codgy, bitter DE, I guess....

I agree, talk is cheap. However at least they are telling us something. Yes, it probably is far away. Yes, we've already done some of the idea hashing for them. Development is a time consuming frustrating road. You have to look at what you want to put in, look at how it will effect the things that are currently in, and as well look at the things that you want to add in the future, and then take all that and make sure it is balanced. Not only that but you also have to make sure that it either maintains the current level of "funness" or adds to it. In addition in this case you also have to consider the "star warsy" feel of what you are putting in. Now as far why this has taken so long, well it seems obvious to me. I wasn't here in the beginning so I can't speak on that, but from what I've heard it was mostly fixing bugs that were very critical to game play. After that it was continue to fix bugs and work on player cities, mount and vehicles, since most of the complains from people in the game and people leaving were from "it takes to long to get anywhere" and "I want to live in a player city." So, they fixed that next. Then of course came more bug fixes, because inevitably when you put in something new either things from that new addition pop up, or new unheard of bugs from totally unrelated categories pop up. So yet more bug squashing commences. Then they heed the cries of the DE's and think, ok how do we get more droids into the game. Well at first glance the primary thing that happens is combat, so put more combat droids in, discussion insues, TH's post on DH/DC/whatever occurs and the mass slew of posting occurs. Then they discuss what we bring up, look at what the community wants, and they *change* direction. Yes all we've seen is words, but right now that's all they can give us. There's alot of work for them to do and I saw we give them as much support as possible.

Oh great, another Dev Team apologist... here's a history of Runesaber: as a senior member of the UO (Ultima Online) team, Runesaber talked a great line, and was very convincing- for about 9 months. After a fashion, players begin to noticewhat Runesaber (and the rest of the Dev Team) say and what they produce are, at times, completely different. Promises made and broken are the norm, and not the exception. And to add insult to injury, they increased monthly fee by 30%... *ummm* can I have another?
Now that Runesaber has joined the SWG staff, I fully expect more rounds of *promises*, only to break most of them.
I'm all for giving the SWG staff the benefit of the doubt, but at what point do we players hold them accountable for broken promises?Reasonable players would say "now is nice", while Dev Team apologists would say "problems? what problems? we don't need no f-ing problems!". In other words, hear no evil, see no evil, say no evil. Get real!
