Any change is better than none, I guess, but I want to be a Droid Engineer, not a Droid Image Designer. I'll welcome the addition but like many others it was way down the list.
More importantly, I hope the colors of advanced models *stick* when they're created now... =)

No dear, it's based on customization points...
It's in the refinement tree together with experimentation.
Actually, I was referring to building them, not using them.

That's true. They have included these tools but we don't know what skill box they will be made available at currently.
Maybe that means they will be at Novice.

BudaKhan,
I don't have to see it to know whether or not it works. Sintrosi will most certainly let us all know what's 'up' with new features.
Rock on, Sintrosi!

Sorry, but does ANYTHING work 100% as it is?
One of my greatest joys during beta was to color the droids I sold.
I loved it, people loved it...
So me for one, hopes that it'll be implemented (hopefully fully functional).

I think I'd prefer to have it partially working now, and then the fixes for the ones that don't work now. It at least gives the novice DEs a bone to chew on for some sort of income stream while doing the initial grinding. And, if everyone is fully aware of the problem with which particular droids can't keep colour, then it's just a customer education thing - just like the humanoid droids not being able to be named right now. As a DE you should always be talking to your potential customer and let them know what's happening. You could even RP it a bit....
C: "Hello, I'm interested in a droid, but I want my probot to be bright pink"
DE: "Evening. Yes, I can do that for you, but for the moment it's still going to look
black"
DE: "There's some bugs in my crafting process right now where, even when I paint the chassis, the build process seems to scrape the paint off. Unfortunately, it's not consistent, so must be some sort of bug in my building tools as some droids will keep their paint, but others won't."
C: "Ah, so what droids do hold their paint colours right now?"
DE: "Well, the R2, surgical and gonk droids will."
C: "Sure, so... errrr.... I'll take a pink R2 then"
DE: "Ok, give me 5 minutes to put that together for you...."
5 min later
DE: "Here's your droid. I've painted him just the wway you wanted."
C: "Cool!"
DE: "But, remember, don't keep him out in the sun too long. The sun is harsh out here and it tends to make the paint fade quite badly. Taking it in and out causes a lot of wear and tear too. So I advise that you take him out and leave him out. Of course, I can always touch it up some time later at a nominal fee of 200cr each time."
C: "Ah, that sucks. Why would my droid fade?"
DE: Well, datapads are small devices. You know everytime you pull it in and out, you'll scrape the edges and make nicks and bangs in the chassis. That has a bad effect on the paint you know. Doens't effect the quality of the components, but it will look quite ratty after a while. Besides, a fresh coat of paint every now and again makes it look soooo much nicer. Of course I could change the colour too when I do that if you get tired of the pink"
C: "Hmmm... Ok. Well thanks for your help, I'll keep you on my friends list and get back in touch with you when it's fade, this pink is quite gaudy after all!"
