Thread: Why did you choose to play DE?

I like technology, so droids seemed like the logical option. I also find them "neat", interesting, and quite entertaining (I still giggle at every mouse that rolls by). I also thought that making cool combat droids for people to use would not only be helpful, but profitable as well.

Boy was I wrong.

But, I stick with it. I've got hope for our metal companions. I will remain a DE until it no longer interests me, no matter how hard/costly/time consuming it can get.

When I watched Star Wars in the theaters in 1977 even though young (7) I always wanted to be the guy building all the Droids. Becoming a DE was only going to be one of my masteries, as I wanted to be a pure crafter.

In the 2 months that I have been a DE I have built one LE repair Droid for my personal use of weapon crafting. I have never received a tell or an e-mail requesting a Droid. Thankfully my other mastery was Weapon Crafting and that alone truly keeps me flush in credits.

I still have not figured out how 33 minutes in Jabbas palace created a class in SWG that effectively replaced the entire Droid dominance of Star Wars. I realized rather quickly that with SWG being a MMPOG all the "Fun" things that you could use a Droid for in PvE would be crippled and watered down simply because of PvP.

On a hunch I would gather we won’t see IG-88’s and the like as they where truly to effective, and would instantly bring "Nurf DE to the stone age!!" post’s galore. Making the DE skill effective means imbalance in PvP, and many depressed folks PvE.

Here is to hoping DE becomes what it should be---the dominate pet class in SWG.

Cause I figured they would be one of the most versatile charactors in the game. When you are in a group and doin missions or what ever, you can make a droid or already have a droid that would help you surmount and obstacle. I thought I would be the go to guy to helpmy friendsget and edge on the others guysin their profession.

Ryde,

Strange that you have never had a request for a droid. I hit Novice DE yesterday. I put up the tag, hoping some young artisans would see it and come to me for training (really need the app points for MA). In less than 30minutes I had my first tell asking if I could make a droid for a guy. I ended up taking down the Novice DE tag and going back to Engineer, so I wouldn't have to refuse people while I was still learning my craft.

With everyplayer on Sunrunner having CH as a backup and the CH pets HAM compared to Droids HAM it's rather a no brainer what pet class to invest in.

From what I've read however the CH dominace might shift soon as it seems the CH player's are fixing to get the mother of all "Sucker Punch's" of Nurfs.

As for App points I feel your pain, I truly hated App points.

I have always liked pets in RPG's like this, so I decided to go Creature Handler / Droid Engineer and I could have a mini-army of stuff to fight for me.

Then I got into Droid Engineering and saw all the other cool stuff we were -supposed- to do, and stuck with it from there.

Star Wars = Droids. Simple as that.

Plus the fact that I'm a computer geek and I like robotics doesn't hurt

I knew I wanted to do something with Artisan, because I find building stuff and gathering resources fun.

I would have been a Miner/Farmer for sure, but they took those classes out. =(

Everyone and their mom is an architect.

Half of everyone and half of their moms are weaponsmiths.

Armorsmiths are cool, but how fun can it get crafting the same armors over and over?

Tailor, would be cool, but not technical enough for me.

Chef, barely a point for them in the game.

Droid Engineer, well.....
Droids are everywhere in the Star Wars universe, and in the movies mass hordes of them go into battle, and it makes for great cinematics. I envisioned the same thing. Guess all I get are probots, seen in one movie, doing scouting, and dispatched of quite quickly.

But regardless, droids are cool and even though they're not that great in the game, it's still a great concept. Also they can store stuff, which is great for when I'm placing harvestors, so I don't have to carry 5 versions of each type and size in my own inventory.

If they put some kind of shipbuilding class in the game, I would go for that in an instant. Until then, it's DE for me.

I didn't want to give in to peer presure and become a CH, so DE seemed like a good choice.

I pretty much had a plan set before I ever played the game. My idea was to become a Creature Handler and a Droid Engineer so that I could sort of be a one man army. I could go out into the wilderness and tame pets, then go home and craft some more. My grand scheme didn't really pan out though. I started working on the Scout skills, and started working up Engineering. I got as high as Engineering 4, and then realized how much crafting I really was going to have to do, and also realized how few skill points I was going to have after Mastering CH and DE. So I gave up on the Engineer skills and focused on the Creature Handling (This idea was also cemented when I looked at the HAM for a probe-droid compared to my low level Creatures). I enjoyed running around and hunting critters on all different planets. Sitting in my basement, crafting alone wasn't much fun.

Then one day I got a holocron...and it told me to Master Droid Engineer. Must be fate or something. At that point I had dropped my Engineering down to level 2. So I started busting out the bone armor, and got my way up to Novice Droid Engineer. I got halfway to my first skill and started doing some math.A rough guestimate gave me a figure of 2 million credits, as the cost for all the materials needed for mastering DE. Another rough guestimate gave me an ETA of next March at the rate I was progressing. So once again I gave up on Droid Engineer. I decided instead to make a new character and have him be my Jedi unlocking character (Some of you dream of Droids. I dream of lightsabers.....literally). But once I realized that the character you unlock your Force Slot with, forces you to create your Force Sensitive character on the same server, I decided I'd rather be a Jedi with all my friends, then on a strange server.

So for a time, I just gave up on my dreams of becoming a Jedi as well as my goals for making Droids....But now there really are player Jedi in the game, and my lightsaber dreams are starting up again....so here I am. This time I'm starting from scratch. I don't even have novice artisian right now.
