Thread: What's the best stat to experiment on a probot now?

Gorantoth, actually the increase in experimentation points is not the reason behind the increased successes. It is actually directly linked to Droid Assembly being raised to 100. Evidence of this can be foundin theArchitect tree, which I am close to mastering on TC, with one of my alts. The Architect Assembly wason about the same footing as our own, before the city patch. The Furnitureline of Architect skills holds 70 pointsof Structure Assembly. As I increased this still, thechance of success increased dramatically. This skill is directly related to our own skill. As for resources having an affect; Malleability is the only stat of a resources, from what I have found, that has a direct affect on the success rate of an item.

After I hit Master on TC, I decided to run a few different experiments with the crafting system, besides those that I reported on about the Probot. Here is what I did....

Itested the theory that the Mechanism rating does not affect the succes rate during crafting by crafting20 Cluster Modules, finitely stacked, with 2 Level 4 Medical Modules, 2 Level 4 Item Storage Modules, 2 Level 4 Data Storage Modules, and 1 of each crafting station. The average Mechanism rating of each of modules used was 8, all from factory crates. I combined each and every Cluster Module by hand, so that I could compare the results. Out of the 20 Cluster Modules that I set out to create, I lost 2 to crit fails, 2 ended up with a crit fail durning the crafting process, and 3 ended up with less that a 'great succes'. In the end, I winded up with the Mechanism ratings that ranged from 125 ( whichI had 3 of with great successes throughout the entire process) and 60 (which was one of the crit fails durning experimentation). I proceded to place each of these 18 remaining stacked Cluster Modules into a MSE. Out of those 18 MSE, I lost1 to a Crit Fail, 3 ended up with less than a good success durning the crafting process (one of which was using one of the 125 rated modules) and the rest came out with great successes. I then proceded to craft 18 more MSE and had almost the exact same results, but ended up with 1 less good result and one more great result.

I also ran a test using Advanced MSE, just in case the modules do not affect the crafting process. I made 2 batchs of 20 parts. One with the worst rating that I could get, a -10, and one with the best rating that I could get +10. I used the exact same materials in both production runs, but the -10 production run had all parts that were a result of a crit fail during the experimentation process. I used the same materials to build the final stage of each of the 2 sets of Advanced MSE.

For the 20 Adv MSE with -10 rated components I had 2 crit fails, 2 crit fails during experimentation, 4 less than great successes, and 12 great successes or better.

For the 20 Adv MSE with +10 rated components, I had 3 crit fails, 2 crit fails during experimentation, 3 less than great successes, and 12 great successes or better.

All 76 MSE were crafted using the same materails under the same conditions, I used a 36.51 crafting station and 12.15 rated tools.

I have yet to see any results during the crafting process, on Live or on TC, that brings me to the conclusion that the Mechanism rating actually has any affect what so ever, after months of near daily crafting.

There is a flaw with this experimentation approach - the complexity of the droid.

It is probably resource and time prohibitive, but I think a better experiment would be on advanced R3's.

The reason is that I think that a master DE will always have a minimal failure rate on the easy to craft items - I think you will see more variance in the more complex items.

BTW, I applaud your efforts to apply a scientific approach to finding out how experimentation really works. I only have my observations - for example, you can use liquid petro chem for the final assembly of an advanced R3, but the droid will fail a lot more than if you use good quality fiberplast.

I actually decided to go with the base model LE repair droid for the test instead. Out of all of the droids available to us, the LE has the least amount of dependence on resources. At 25 complexity, 5 droid components, and only 20 non-ferrous metals, the LE would seem to be the best overall droid to run an experiment on, to see if the component ratings matter.

I have to disagree with you on the minimal failure rate however. Try comparing the success rates of the Level 4 Item or Armor modules with that of the Level 6 modules. From personal experience, the Level 6 modules are actually easier to gain great successes on, when using the same materials, or materials of equal value.

Sounds like a good approach.

But there is another factor in the L6 armor mods - the armorsmith made components. If they have a positive quality rating, then this may skew comparing the L4 and the L6 armor mods.

I've tested that one out as well. I had an Armorsmith, when I was on Shadowfire, make me a batch of Composite Armor segments that were made from some of the best resources that I had, which he ended up buying a bit off of me, and the worst that I could druge out. The sad thing is that the Level 6 modules made with the really horrid composite segements had better results than the Level 4 Armor Module results.

Of course, with the changes being (hopefully) made to DE, we may see all this change...

There are two modules who's mechanical ratings I don't trust. The first is the cluster module. The mechanical rating value seems to take the mechanical ratings of the sub-components and add them together. However, this rating does show to be related to the ratings of the sub-components. The second, is the repair module. Again, it seems to consider the sub-component mechanical rating in order to determine it's own. As such, these two seem to generate odd results.

Also, I would consider the MSE to be, on its own, inadequate for this test since it has a low complexity and may depend more on raw skill than quality of components. A proper test would have to include our most complex droid as well.

However, I'm quite content right now to say that wehave not yetproven or disproven the usefulness of experimentation on subcomponents.

But I do look forward to hearing your results.

Ok, I'll agree that the LE Repair is a decent test of the system.

>>As we've seen in the past, changes to stats like this are only seen in newly crafted droids

Unless it's intended as a down grade. Don't forget what they where able to do to armor on all probots back when they where truly worth building and having.

>>Since Thunderheart is an admitted non-crafter

So why did sony pick him to handle a crafting class? How can he fix somthing he dosn't understand? You can't understand ANY crafting class without being a crafter for awhile. Trying to get the resources you need to do good work with this crapy resource system they have, Tring to build a good product with expermentation fails screwing up the resaults even when you are a MASTER using the BEST tools AND resources you can get.

Vorg, TH doesn't just handle DEs. He handles all the professions.
