Thread: Merchant changes on the In Development forum
I cant see them changing it to 150 items
Its been 4 hours and 400 posts in protests. Besides, this is a problem that can be fixed w/ more hardware. They just need to spend the money.
Alternatively, they could go back and optimize there code and make smaller records. But thats pretty unlikely.
i kinda find it funny to watch right now.
Still, if they go ahead with it after all this.....
Unfortunately, i probably see them nerfing everyone to 150 but merchants, who will be allowed more. I mean, its the right thing to do, but itll suck for me, since I dont ahve the point to buy merchant.
The only think i could sell on the bazarre is bounty hunter droids. My cheapest droid is 10k
Peace, young grasshopper. Everything has its place in the universe. When faced with a limitation you must simply find a way to overcome the challenge and use it to your advantage. You can either read the lines or live between them, but I promise you the second way is much better.
With it at 3k, the market provides a great galaxy-wide 'bargain basement' of stuff. Whenever I'm stranded in a city waiting for someone, I spend the time browsing the galaxy market. You can find cheap minerals andrare minerals almost without trying. I got over 6k of duralumin aluminium for only 10k the other day. That'll last me more than a long time but is hell to find and try to get ahold of normally.
Not only minerals, but other things can be found as well. I make it a habit to buy up medium mineral harvesters for 3k each as I can then turn round and just give them to people. 15k really isn't that much to get an entire set of medium harvesters to hand out as presents. I've also found armour and some decent FWG5's on it as well.
But that isn't the subject of today. Today we are discussing getting an upper limit of 6k on the public bazaar. No, we masters won't get rich selling things for 6k off a public bazaar. But that is not where the true value lies. There are many non-masters who can make a pretty penny selling full-up DZ-70's. That's my first suggestion. Another good one would be selling L6 modules for 5-6k each on the public bazaar so that low level droid engineers can buy them then sell droids without having the ability to make the modules themselves. And this doesn't even cover the newfound ability to sell crates of Arakyds and Seekers in public for decent prices (or full amounts).
Remember matey, there is oppertunity in everything. All you have to do is realise it instead of hating it.

Sounds like the 150 item limit on a vendor is intended to make people move up the merchant tree more. Why have 6 vendors when you can just get one and pile everything on it ?
no, the reason is to reduce the number of records in the database so the server load will ease up.
Personally, I hate vendors with too many items on them. Its just Im so lazy I dont like surfing throgh pages and pages of itmes listed.
As almost-master-merchant (4/4/4/4... *sigh*<edit> app points) I have four vendors placed: one for droids and batteries, one for powerups, one for vehicles and the last one for other stuff. Neither of them has never had more than 20 items ![]()
Well for those not paying attention, Thunderheart is saying they are now considering removing vendors from the Artisan profession entirely now.
Well I guess it all depend on your business model.
I have a fairly respectable business selling droid chassis to people. Now that player cities are in, and people are getting buildings like medical centers and cloning centers, I get a decent number of orders for droid chassis of various types, let alone droids themselves.
I try to have at least 20 different color options for each droid chassis. That alone is is 160 items! BLL, Repair, Surgical, the R Series, Probots and Protocols. Well the protocols are all gold, but people buy them often. And that doesn't even come close to the combinations of colors possible for trim and chassis!!
Then I have crates of BH seekers and arakyds. Oh, and batteries, oh and then the baseline droids I produce.
So people are supposed to have one and only one location, nevermind that you can have depots on other planets that get lower traffic but higher sales prices because of the infamous "Location location location" rule of thumb. Oh and you aren't supposed to provide the service or selling items for people who don't want to deal with the hassle of sales, they just like to craft....
Just because YOU don't have X method or inventory numbers doesn't mean other people don't as well. Try and do the thought example of inventory colors, combinations and models for all crafting classes and then say that150-300-XXX is fair for all classes. And then pretend you're master in TWO of those classes and run the numbers again. and then pretend that you only play X hours a week, where X is less than 20. Remeber, this game is supposed to be "casual player friendly".
Especiallywhen this is a technical problem rather than a social or gameplay issue that is coming into force, that SOE wants to force down people's throats because they cannot be bothered or are too cheap to deal with the technical issue.
Now I'm "lucky" since I'm a master merchant, but this change will essentially force me out of business in that I will only be able to stock items I make myself, none of the items I sell for the 3 other crafters I deal with. I likeplaying my character, why should players pay for something that could have been avoided by dealing with the issue earlier?

Ummmmm.....I read thunderheart post and I had other understanding....
IMHO, Thunderheart showned us his low knowledge about crafters professions. He thinks that currently only Merchants have vendors, while the first vendor is geted at business III at Artisan.
The correct Thunderheart words are "DocSavag is a strong voice for the Merchants and based on the correspondent issues, this change may include the fact that only merchants can have vendors."
